I've read about wishing trees before, but I don't remember in what city/country. Most people now use Twitter for this kind of stuff.

Well, if you ever run into another wishing tree, K., please post. It would be charming to see wishes in other languages.
I guess the Western Wall in Jerusalem is the proto wish-spot.

I saw several 'wish' books, although they are not called that, in various cathedrals and churches over the last week. I looked through a couple of them and even though frivolity is discouraged in a religious context, many of the wishes boil down to the same things -- health, prosperity, love -- albeit worded in ways that will not annoy any existing higher beings if possible.
