At the moment, my admiration for Macron knows no bounds. Please god that his reason somehow influences the orange turd. And yeah -- Ms. Merkel will not have those very cool learned-from-boyhood moves that Macron deployed so subtly & effectively to deflect Trump's pathetic attempts at alpha dog dominance.

I try to console myself with the idea that at least one person in the world is trying to tame him gently, although I have high hopes for Kim Jong-Un.

I haven't seen it yet. Just finished watching these excerpts from Macron's excellent speech -- a speech about what is important to the nations of the world, rather than the know-nothing ranting we're used to hearing from America's current president.
Point by point Macron knocks down what is wrong with Trump's course of action:

Trump was spanked today, by Macron as well as by the Iranian leader. Woo hoo! If congress won’t call him out on his blunders, other leaders will.

Macron is becoming pretty impressive. His command of English is outstanding.

How lucky! The United Kingdom will be graced by a visit from President Trump on 13 July. Unfortunately, it won't be a state visit, just a working visit.

Friday 13th July. Unless we get rid of the Tories before then and some fabulously wonderful new leader takes over and tells Trumpy to go do one. Unlikely.
I heard the other day that it's highly likely that Trump will get another term. Epic fail.

Macron is becoming pretty impressive. His command of English is outstanding. The French leader’s command of English beats the Anerican leader’s. AND he speaks with less of an accent than our First Lady. Sad.

Just finished watching episode 2 of season 2 of The Handmaid's Tale. It's a harrowing experience for any adult, I might say particularly for any woman, as the viewer does not think "It can't happen here". So then the episode was over and I opened today's The Guardian from my email to see this headline: House Republicans nominate Donald Trump for Nobel peace prize. That's a real headline about something that really just happened. This, for the low-life buffoon we all thought wouldn't last more than a few months in office. I guess we can get some bitter amusement imagining the faces of the Nobel committee when they saw this nomination.

That should be under "headlines I don't understand". I saw that too but didn't read it -I'm not keen on fantasy books or movies.

Obama was given a Nobel Peace Prize before he’d accomplished anything (and then he went on to sustain “Dubya’s Wars”).
Guess the Trumpers figure whatever is going on with Little Rocket Man might lead to peace that Trump can claim credit for.

Has the anti gun protest run out of steam?

No, I just think they were slaughtered by the gun fanatics.
If I were British, I would worry more about the fact that the floors of British hospitals are apparently slick with blood due to all of the stabbings, according to what Donald said yesterday.

Indeed.
Much worse than 20 people slaughtered by a gun wielding maniac.
But do Americans believe him?

I am afraid that at least 30-35% of them do. They will believe absolutely anything that he says.

Yeah, those rapture types are no friends of Jews. Like Behring Breivik, who "supported Israel" in the sense of using Jews (his term, of course) against Muslims (also his term), but also to make the West "cleansed" of Jews.

So our US allies decided to raise import tax duties. It looks like a declaration of economic war. I boycott McDo and Coke from now on. McCain fries too. But I did that long ago already.

Yes, they are Canadian; McCain is one of the largest companies in New Brunswick. But I don't buy them either, just because they are crap. I don't see how a Belgian coul possibly eat them.
We do have very good potatoes, though, but to buy fresh.

Actually, I dicovered quite recently that 'oven fries' are now excellent. I still despise frozen fries that need to be deep fried.

It looks like a declaration of economic war. The fallout from this idiocy is going to be on the heads of American people. The vacuum between the shit-toad's ears makes him think that countries exist in a vacuum and his vast ignorance means that the history of the last 100--200 years means nothing to him. In 2002, president George W. Bush imposed tariffs on steel imports for much the same reason as Trump—combating cheap imports from other countries—but ended them when the World Trade Organization ruled them illegal. Over the 18 months that the tariffs were imposed, a spike in steel prices put 200,000 workers out of their jobs, according to a study paid for by companies who buy steel. source <-- note that the figure in the headline to the source article is now inaccurate, as it did not take into account that Trump was going to f*ck our closest neighbors.
