Yeah, I know, fumo, but he's the type of guy I would have fallen for in my '30s. Sure, little heavy-handed, but I guess you take whatever platform is a available to you.

k2, hope that doesn't mean the next round is a countdown to Présidente Marine...
Though perhaps she would insist on Madame le Président.

Here's an interesting dissection of how Trump did it:

His NYC accent has really come out in that clip. Not quite the same as Sanders, but much more evident than usual. Interesting to contrast the two in form, and not only in content, when they are about the same age and from the same city.

I don't know if anyone watched this the whole way through - but I thought it was interesting that Trump's speeches are specifically geared to a 4th grade reading level...
Bernie Sanders' speeches were rated as college-level.

I'm wondering if the inauguration singer will mention her transgender sister at the event.

They are not a family which shuns publicity.
From one thing to another, The Trash-in-Chief is referring to Mar-a-lago as "the Winter White House".

I'd never heard of that place, but why not the 'Winter Palace' while they're at it.
Why the hell would anyone living in Washington need a Winter anything? Oh, I forgot, they are living in NYC.

I find it difficult to believe that Trump actually wrote an entire speech. Especially since he finds it necessary to use words of only one to two syllables and terminate every sentence with "disaster", "problem"...
Everybody expects to see him morph into a respectful leader of the Free World. I don't think so.

Should we start taking bets on 1) the first executive decision and 2) whether it will be something legally possible?

I caught a brief glimpse of Trump on TV yesterday. I couldn't help but note how fat the guy is.( usually he has a podium in front of him so I never really quite noticed this before) He doesn't look physically fit at all. Add this to the already long list of his being unfit in so many other ways.

I love the country singer he chose - or rather the one who didn't refuse. France Telly ran about 6 secs of the guy, 4 whilst he drank from a bottle and totally slumped. Classy guy.

I find it difficult to believe that Trump actually wrote an entire speech. I doubt if any serious political leader writes their own speeches. At best they set the tone for, and give impetus to, a drafting committee, and add some personal touches of their own.

Similar to l'Alliance Franco-Allemande and not very well known, De Gaulle (Le Grand Charles) had said that Walloons would have been welcomed in France should they have asked. It is now considered that between 1/3 and half of the Walloons would prefer to be French than Walloons should Belgium explode (Belgie barst ! leitmotiv of the NVA, the strongest party in Flanders). Here a nice link about it (only works in french) fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/RattachismeI think the Treaty of London 1839 is still in force? I seem to remember it had to be invoked about a hundred years ago...... My blog | My photos | My video clips"too literate to be spam"

So I watched the whole inauguration...
His body language showed the very picture of a man who did not want the job and is in no way ready to assume office. Mrs Obama seemed to be having stomach cramps, Melania looked like a terrified robot - and how rude to wear gloves when she was expected to shake hands - Barron forgot to take his Ritalin, Obama looked relieved and Trump shoveled off all the Power from his shoulders and onto the People.
Only Trump conveniently neglected to inform the People how in the Hell they were expected to obtain and implement said Power.

Very few politicians, even those who write well such as Mitterand and Obama, actually write their own speeches.
I deliberately didn't watch it.
Someone I know, a nice gentle 'green' sort of activist who works at a community centre in the neighbourhood just west of ours and lobbies for more safety for pedestrians and cyclists there, was turned back at the border along with his friend as he was going to attend the Women's March.

They didn't say. Non-citizens have no 'right' to enter another country, unless of course there is an agreement to free movement as in the EU.

Even in the EU people can be stopped at the border for things like that. And they can of course challenge it, but when they "win" it is often 6 hours or 48 hours or whatever later, so the whole point of going has usually expired.

Did they announce their intentions to the border officers? If they did, do you not have a right to assemble or something along those lines? I don't understand what you mean by this "things like that". I'm confused.

Whenever there is an international demonstration, there is also the risk of international hooligans. The easiest way to avoid problems is to just deny access to anybody who says they are attending. Some people don't know how to lie. Of course the flags and banners in the back seat of the car do not help their case!

Not too clever in my estimation if that was the case. Not to disparage their intentions but, maybe they ought to have had some better planning lest this was a possibility, no?

Trump did sign away the beginning of the end for the Affordable Care Act - but since there is nothing to replace it, this will take many months or even years of negotiation. What will people do who are already covered by Obamacare?

Interesting -- such nouveau riche taste for someone who has had money for at least 2 generations. I wonder when the gold-plate toilets are going to be installed.

Not only a bitch, and the wrong colour, but also a MEXICAN!
There are also great ones about pussies, such as Livia's watchword 'This little pussy has fangs'...
