However it isn’t Zuckerberg’s decision. It’s an independent commission.
And if he violates again, he can be banned again.
But I haven’t heard what decision was handed down, if any. Anyone know?

Not Trump’s case, but this lists other decisions the Oversight Board has made: oversightboard.com/decision/(Since posting this, the site has been updated to include Trump’s case.)

They decided to continue the ban, which will be reviewed again in the future. Sort of like a parole board apparently.

Good link, Kimby -- from the horse's mouth! Here is The Guardian's report on the subject: www.theguardian.com/technology/2021/may/05/donald-trump-facebook-account-ban-oversight-boardIt doesn't seem to be so much that indefinite is not allowed, but that Facebook has an obligation to definitively decide whether or not an account has consistently broken the rules to the point that it must be banned. I clicked around a little bit in the link in Reply #2678 to get an idea of how the Oversight Board functions. I think they were right in tossing the final decision back to Facebook. Their decision states: In applying a vague, standardless penalty and then referring this case to the Board to resolve, Facebook seeks to avoid its responsibilities. The Board declines Facebook’s request and insists that Facebook apply and justify a defined penalty. My reading of that is "Don't be weenies, Facebook. It's your platform, so do your job."

MZ definitely has an influence even if not official. FB is losing millions in targeted ad revenue for clicks and readers of the Orange posts. Same with Twitter.
The oversight board basically kicked the can back to FB.

Trunp definitely turned GOP into Trumpism, welcoming QAnon and rejecting politicians. What hapoens to Liz Chenney is disgusting. Kicked into submission because she tells the truth and greets the american President.

You said it, Whatagain!
Even though I have long considered Republicans lying scum weasels, their universal embrace of Trump and of huge, easily disproved lies absolutely floors me.

Excellent commentary, as always from Heather Cox Richardson. Thanks for the link, Kimby. For future reference, that link came out so long because you took it directly from the email you received. Of course that doesn't matter, since the important thing is that the link works. Whenever you want to generate a shorter link, do this: Copy and paste the long link into your browser & hit Enter. When the page opens, the link will begin with the actual address, but will still be very long: https://heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/may-11-2021token=eyJ1c2VyX2lkIjo4Nzg3MTExLCJwb3N0X2lkIjozNjMxNTUwNiwiXyI6IlBMOGtVIiwiaWF0Ijox The way to make it shorter is to find the question mark that is usually included in these long links: heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/may-11-2021?token=eyJ1c2VyX2lkIjo4 .... etc. Highlight that question mark and everything that comes after it & hit delete. You will now have a much shorter working link: heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/may-11-2021Here is the video of Liz Cheney's speech, which I found quite powerful: edition.cnn.com/videos/politics/2021/05/11/liz-cheney-house-floor-remarks-republican-vote-vpx.cnn/video/playlists/this-week-in-politics/

Anyway, now that Liz Cheney has been dominated, maybe it is time for a new political party for dissident Republicans. The Whigs sounds like a catchy name. Whig Party

Here’s just a General Miley sample. You can cut straight to minute 2:09 if you want to avoid the first part, but this whole clip is pretty interesting. The disgusting twerp at the beginning is a Florida congressman who has gotten himself into some very deep trouble (unrelated to this clip).

I watched that clip yesterday, Htmb, and my blood yet boils. Your description of slimy Gaetz is far too kind but really, there are no words.

Tonight on French TV there was a docudrama about the French revolution. I found it remarkable how similar the antics of the people trying to restore the French monarchy were to the people trying to restore Trump to power.

Priceless potpourri of Trumpian politics --
“If only we had Robert E. Lee to command our troops in Afghanistan, that disaster would have ended in a complete and total victory many years ago. What an embarrassment we are suffering because we don’t have the genius of a Robert E. Lee,” Trump concluded.

He should be reminded the victor at Gettysburg is Meade, not Lee. And that Lee ultimately surrendered...

All countries make mistakes in war and peace. USA just keeps making the same mistakes over and over and over again.
All circuses have clowns to distract the audience so they don't see the mistakes being made.
If the clowns make mistakes the audience is confused. Is this for real or part of the act?
Clowns revert to old tricks to keep the audience on side.
"Let's go out and bomb someone" " Nah, it didn't work the last couple of times." "We could use those special effects bombs" "Circus Management wouldn't allow it" "Oh well, back to the old routines again" "What colours are our camouflage outfits this time"

I thought that once Trump lost the election, we wouldn't see him constantly on news pages. It looks as though it's not the case -- every day there seems to be an article about him, either trying to force Twitter to let him have his account back, or else interfering in nominations/elections of public officials. Will this horrible guy never go away?

Wtf is dumb Donald playing at when he praises Kittenhouse (i don't want to remember his name) and invites him !
So the young bastard is now the perfect US citizen, going out for a kill at night, like John Wayne ?
It is already impossible to understand that the little brat is not sentenced to prison but having an ex president candidate say he is a nice guy goes beyond understanding, even from the orange man. The guy who is being sued for his actions in jan 6 is again showing his total disregard for anything democratic. He just wants the US back in the Far West. Do all republicans really want to live like that ?
