Le Pen's "concession" speech is right out of Trump's playbook: the violence used against her in the campaign, what the NR will do after doing so well in the upcoming legislative elections, Macron is going to destroy France...

[quote author=" kerouac2" source="/post/388469/thread" reporting a massive victory of Marine Le Pen in the overseas departments (Martinique, Guadeloupe, Guyane...) which voted equally massively for the far left (Mélenchon) two weeks ago, so this would mean a case of "get rid of Macron at any cost." [/quote] And if we said 'ok let us get rid of Dom Tom, let them cope... ' Just saying...

Marine's good friends Putin and Orban could have helped her out.
Hey, let's invade France!
A journalist I've known for decades now has the plum Paris beat at Radio-Canada. Fortunately they haven't assigned him to Ukraine yet;

Guyane Marine Le Pen : 60,70% Emmanuel Macron : 39,30%
Martinique Marine Le Pen : 60 87% Emmanuel Macron : 39,13%
Guadeloupe Marine Le Pen : 69,60% Emmanuel Macron : 30,40%
There is reason to be perplexed.

It would be interesting to learn the abstention rates there.
I have often wondered why the French bother with those overseas departments. I guess the overseas territories and departments depend on French financial handouts to get by, but I really don't see what they bring to France.

Abstention is always huge in the DOM-TOM (overseas France). Meanwhile here is one of the first memes showing the supporters of Emmanuel Macron, just so you'll understand from where the opponents are coming.

Why on earth would Black Frenchpeople vote for that racist? I know there was unrest a few years ago because of the high cost of living (many essential goods shipped in from France) but Le Pen fille certainly doesn't give a shit about "those people". Our dear friend from Senegal was visiting us and we listened to the debate, (he translated) and he predicted the people of his country would go with Le Pen but I have looked for results today and don't see what direction his homeland went.

Senegal is not part of France! Why would his homeland count? Unless he meant Senegalese who have become French citizens.

In 2017 52% of those who voted Melenchon on first round voted Macron on second, whereas only 7% voted Le Pen, the rest abstaining. So it would mean Macron = 28 + 10 (Mel) + 2 +1 Le Pen = 23 + 1.5 (Mel) + 7 (Zemmour) + 1 I cannot imagine the other leftists voting Le Pen, so let us take 2% for Macron, 0 for Le Pen and Pecresse 2.5% for Macron, 1% for Le Pen. The rest abstains. Means : 41 vs 33. On 74 so Macron gets 60% of the votes on second turn. Not boasting but i could be a good political analyst. I predicted 60pc for Macron he got 59pc. 😜😜

Just as German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's first visit was to Paris to meet with President Macron, President Macron's first post-electoral trip will be to Berlin to meet with Chancellor Scholz. The current rumour is that they will go from there for a joint visit to Kyiv. I'm not sure if this is likely or not.

Not really. Out of 100 French : 28pc didn't vote - showing they don't vare if far right comes to power. Then about 30pc (41 pc of 72) voted far right. About 40pc voted for Macron.
Nothing to feel safe in our democracies.

Today is Macron's second inauguration. Not a peep out of him about the upcoming government ministers. While it is driving potential nominees crazy, it is even worse for the opposition -- with the legislative elections next month, they cannot denounce everything they find wrong with it since they don't know anything.
Of course, this is just a one month recreation, because a new government will have to be named when the new legislature is in place. If Macron's party (new name Renaissance replacing the previous LREM) loses, that means that EVERYBODY changes. If Macron wins, he'll again change about 30% of the people depending on the impression and the gaffes they have made.

The lists of candidates are not final yet, but I can already announce that the parliamentary representative of my district will be a black woman. Danièle Obono, incumbent (far left) Kolia Benié, principal challenger (Macron) For some reason, the Marine Le Pen camp only gets about 5% of the vote in my district, and their candidate has not been revealed yet.

Eric Zemmour (even further to the right than LePen) is running for parliament in St Tropez. Another reason not to go there, especially if he is elected.

No chance of that, but it was the district that gave him the highest percentage of votes in the presidential election (14.7%) -- and 22.42% in the town of Saint Tropez itself. On the national level, he had received 7.07% of the vote.

We will get the first results of the first round of the legislative elections in just half an hour, but the news commentators are much more worried about the final round next Sunday. The forecast is that temperatures in most of France will be as high as 37° -- not very conducive to voting.

I will never understand how inclement weather keeps people from making an effort to vote.
When I worked as a Poll Commissioner the turnout was significantly dependent on the weather.
Then, after a certain candidate or other major issue was on the ballot, I would hear people that I know bitch and moan about the outcome.
These same people I knew had not voted because I was privy to the registrar, and I had to keep my mouth shut because it was privileged information that I would violate by blasting them with what I knew.
I came close a couple of times but managed to refrain from bringing it up.

For the first time ever, I won't have to vote next week since my district is one of only five in France where a candidate managed to be elected in the first round. To do so, you have so get more than 50% of the vote of course, but also more than 25% of the registered voters. With more and more abstention each time, this is becoming more and more difficult.
