Unkind analysts might find that there was some sort of political agenda behind today's event in Paris, perhaps related to next Sunday's presidential election. You be the judge.
What is 0.7? It is the percent of GNP that developed nations promised to assist the developing world in 1970 in a UN resolution. It was estimated that if every developed country contributed 0.7%, it would be sufficient for sustainable development to take hold in the rest of the world. Only six countries, all in Europe, have attained the objective of 0.7%. Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands and Denmark all respected the objective between 1975 and 1979. Luxembourg joined the group in 2000 and the United Kingdom arrived at that amount in 2013 after a major campaign of public pressure. France has still not respected the goal, and that's what today's event was purportedly about.
In any case, I enjoyed my brief dip into the event.
I took the metro from my apartment to Concorde to walk up to see the event. The Champs Elysées was completely closed to traffic.
There was no lack of security to protect everyone attending.
Rogue vehicles were not able to smash into the street to kill us.
Before the music trucks arrived, there were various performers to amuse the crowd. Bubble men are now found everywhere in Europe.
And then the music arrived.

Everybody was here for the music. There were 9 sound trucks, each with 3 different groups performing at 40 minute intervals. So I did not at all see all of them.
The Sephora Color Run was this morning, so there were dozens of refugees from that event.
Here are some clues to the possible hidden agenda of today's event.

Anyway, people seemed to be having a good time.
I exited through the police barriers up by the Arc de Triomphe.
As usual, a few entrepreneurs were selling food.
