Lovely. People clearly take pride in the renovaions. I always look at the windows because even in my own building, each window had to be measured carefully to put in the double glazing since every single window in a building like that is different from the other windows.

So happy to see the continuation of this report. The architectural pictures mostly look like something out of a fairy tale, including scary stuff like the 2nd picture in #32. What fun to see all of that followed by the happy street performers.

Having a tasty, simple lunch between a towpath and an active lock, with a view of a chateau on the hillside behind, is not an everyday thing for us.

Lovely! How many people left their tables to go look when the lock was in operation? Locks are fascinating.

bixa, watching a lock fill and empty, and the boat inside rise and fall, is always a treat for me. Not a lot of boats go up and down this river, but while we were eating, two boats pulled up short of the lock and a man came to the restaurant (the former lock-keeper's house) for a baguette and some picnic food. The boaters sat in a separate tent. Before E and I left, they had finished their lunch and were going through the lock. Some of the diners could have reached over from their seats and shaken hands with the boaters.

I missed your reports before today - so thank you for adding to it to help me catch up. The area looks so lovely. I am a fan of half timbered buildings and so of course really enjoyed seeing those you have posted. The gardens are really lovely too. I can see why this area holds a special place in your heart.

I'm also glad this report has resurfaced as I too missed it the first time! It is delightful. I look forward to more!
