It's getting more complicated for me to pick stuff up off the ground if I drop it. I didn't think it was that bad until people started jumping forward to do it for me.

One aspect of our current topic which I can see I am not the only one adjusting to is accepting help in the little things. Our generation, many of whom were Scouts or Guides, grew up helping, carrying, picking up, holding umbrella and many actions we were hardly aware of. I noticed about a year ago when 2 lads helped me get my shopping to the car. Then I was hesitant crossing a slippery road and a chap took my arm and piloted me across.
It seems that yesterday I was doing these actions myself and I still start to say,"No, no. I can manage" until I realised that what is really called for is,"Oh Thank you. I'm a bit wobbly nowadays. You are very kind." After a couple of falls and busted ribs I really appreciate help to do some things, and there have been times when I have wished I had carried my walking stick just to stabilise myself. They should be checked for height but Google and you will find the details. As far as Mossie's "IT IS NOT WORTH IT" philosophy, I can only say............. "IT SURE BEATS THE ALTERNATIVE"

I don't know if this is a common occurrence with other people but one (of many) things that I have noticed in the last couple of years is that my nails (both hands and feet) are growing faster than they were before. In addition to these is my hair, both facial and head are growing much much faster than they ever were before. Is anyone else experiencing this?

After a lifetime of wishing I was Rapunzel with bounteous flowing hair, I finally at 67 have the best hair I’ve ever had, and my nails are better than usual too. I started taking Biotin supplements a few years ago (5000mcg/day) and noticed a difference within a couple weeks. Shinier, smoother, and “swingy-er”.
And during COVID’s less-frequent visits to the salon, I’m finding I can wear it longer, too. A bonus: my white hairs have multiplied to the point that I now realize I can stop coloring and still be “blond”!
These factors combined ALMOST make up for the sagging upper eyelids and crepey neck!

Re: other hair. I haven’t had to resort to shaving my upper lip or even tweezing a stray hair now and then, but I HAVE noticed an increase in fine downy hairs on my face.
For awhile I felt like I had “something” on my nostril, fluttering in the breeze of inhalations and exhalations, and then I realized it’s probably those downy hairs. Annoying but surviveable.

After menopause, the testosterone takes over. It is normal for women to grow more hair (and nails are a form of hair, I think). Unfortunately, we men get it in our ears and nose and have to keep our eyebrows trimmed, too.

In my case it's "chin hairs". I can't afford electrolysis to have it resolved which a dear friend of mine was able to have done and it worked. I usually go up to the river and park my car in a spot where I can pluck them with a pair of tweezers that have excellent "play". I use the mirror on the back of the sun visor and am able to listen to cool music, and take breaks to watch when a big ship cruises by, I take my shoes off and let my feet hang out the window. One time while going through airport security years ago they almost took them away. (Like these blunt pointed tweezers could actually be used as a weapon ).

One time while going through airport security years ago they almost took them away. (Like these blunt pointed tweezers could actually be used as a weapon ) How about the bad guy strolls down the aisle and picks a little old lady in an aisle seat, puts her in a head-lock and holds her with the tweezers to her eye. Once that would have worked but now the passengers have chosen to fight back, so it probably wouldn't work. I thought I would have no problems taking on a circular knitting needle as they only have 5cm pointed ends with 60cm of soft plastic tubing joining them. I took them as I thought they were harmless...got past security after a lecture about using them as a garotte. I have also used a pair of pens as needles. I also heard of a chap who passed security with just a pencil sharpener and a piece of sandpaper in his pocket. Checked through, he enjoyed a Chinese meal before departure and kept the wooden chopsticks. The pencil sharpener shaped the chopsticks and the sandpaper smoothed and sized them.

That happened to a good friend of mine who gets really stressed about flying and uses knitting to calm her down and relax. She finally burst into tears when "they" tried to take them away preflight. Phew!!! It worked!!!!

I've always wondered why pens are not considered deadly weapons.

They should be because the pen is mightier than the sword.

Only in the hands of a writer with something worth reading or worth writing. Is the keyboard the modern day pen? Just think of the garbage that spews from the keyboards of today, And yet, and yet....

Because of Covid I haven’t done much driving for the past year. Recently I have taken eldest grandson to West London for cricket coaching, some 36 miles. Not a great distance but to get there I must travel the A10, M25, M1 and North Circular Road, some of the busiest roads around. By the time I get in I’m shattered.
Are those years catching up?

I hear you Mick .. I am travelling from Herefordshire to Dorset alternate weeks to look after Enzo when his parents are at work and he is not in nursery. Minimum 3 hours one way, depending on the traffic . I am ok on the way there but after spending my joyous hours with him during the day and even after an overnight sleep ...the 3 hour return journey the next day is a killer . The worst thing I find is all the knob drivers on the busy roads ... the boy racers , the sports cars wannabees, the scary DFS / Amazon driver or any other delivery driver, those who drive in the middle lane for ever, those who refuse to indicate. Blah blah. Yes those years are catching up.

On the way back we were in the inside lane of the M25 doing about 50 in a line of traffic. A Range Rover overtook us on the inside driving up the hard shoulder....
Grandson was horrified. He doesn’t drive.

A few years ago I was in the UK for a short while and rented a car to get around. I realised then how much I didn't like driving in the UK anymore. I used to have the slightest excuse to go out for a drive but that last time wasn't enjoyable at all. In Bosnia I have little need to drive but use the car two or three times a week just to go to a bigger supermarket or pick Mrs M up from work but on Sunday we have about a 6 hour drive there and back to a place we want to see. Then about a week later it'll be 10 hours over two days, a couple of weeks after that about a thousand km over four or five days but - about middle June the plan so far is for me to drive to southern Spain from here - via Germany - that'll be 3700km or so.

I recently decided to cut my hair shorter than I had done in many, many years. I usually kept it at about the same length and would just get it trimmed with the option of it being long enough to pin up or put in a "ponytail". Initially, I was going to go for really short, just shy of a pixie cut but held off and went with just above chin length. The idea being that I could go shorter if I wanted. I had just simply grown so tired of having to spend so much time getting out the tangles and knots as my hair is so baby fine and whispy while remaining fairly thick. The hairdresser commented on how healthy my hair was and commented on the color and how much people pay to have their hair colored to look like mine. The long and short of it, (pun intended), is it was so gratifying to hear from a much younger person one of the positive aspects of having naturally colored hair at my age. I do love it at this length and it is so much easier to control when brushing it without having to untangle even small knots.

I had my 6 month follow up physical yesterday and am pleased to report that all my labs came back normal. Most especially, I lost 12 pounds since my last physical (likely due to stress and lack of appetite of late). Fine by me.

I would love to be able to send you 12 pounds from my body.
I had a blood test last week, and I'm pretty sure that everything is still fine in that department.

Yesterday I got the results back from the six viles of blood they took from me a couple of weeks ago. The main concern was whether or not I have rheumatoid arthritis, thankfully, I do not. My fingers/knuckles are swollen and becoming quite crooked and I have lost strength in my hands but he says I do not have an autoimmune disease most likely osteoarthritis. He was also pleased that all the other tests he requested were in normal ranges.

Sounds like great news all the way around. Congratulations to each of you!!!
I have osteoarthritis in both knees, as well as the knuckle joint of my right thumb. The thumb joint is irritated mostly by using my electronic devices and the grip on my camera. I’ve found some cool hand exercises on YouTube. Maybe they’d be helpful for you, too, Mich..
Coincidentally, I’ve just now placed a new order for a CBD balm that really helps take the edge off. I hardly even take anti inflammatory meds like ibuprofen these days. If a joint is irritated, I just rub a bit of balm on it. I’ve also found that daily stretching and exercise have helped me the most.

My right knee has begun to "act up" of late. It gets really sore and I can barely straighten it out at times. Always after doing some garden work or work on the pond. It's disconcerting because I never had any problem with this knee before. It was my left knee that caused me problems that eventually resulted in surgery on torn meniscus. This really sucks because I suspect it may well be the beginning of some kind of arthritis.

Always works for me.

Yesterday was hot and I went into London for a cricket lunch. I walked to the local station, had to walk some way to the restaurant and then it was all reversed of course. According to the phone it was 6.5 km walked and 7 staircases climbed. Today my calf muscles are so sore.
