Hello So here we have a group o Grognards, Napoleon's best soldiers. They were called Grognards because they would complain... They were forming regiments of 'la Garde' with a jeune garde, une moyenne garde et la veille garde. You had to have served in a number of campaigns and distinguish yourself to be in the Guard. The building behind is the farm chosen by Napoleon as his HQ on june 17th, 1815 - la ferme du caillou.
I don't know if there is already a thread calle 'reenactment' or something close - could not find it anyway, so I created this thread and managed to post some pics ! Well not yet...

These 'sodliers' are mostly French and Walloons and are very nice to talk to. They love to share their hobby and will tell you how much time they spent researching what button their regiment were wearing and how to duplicate them with the actual tools of then.
I also went to the Allied bivouac, located on la ferme d'Hougoumont, where I met Dutch soldiers (mainly 'played' by Dutch or Flemish, Prussians (very few and most dutc/flemish some germans too), British troops (scottish, English guys mostly).
I spent a lovely time chatting with one of those guys who confirmed he was nuts and told me about how he repaired an artillery gun (complete with wheels) and how he made the caisson from scratch in his apartment. On the third floor...

Excellent. Yes we have nuts here too who do reenactments of various things. Waterloo of course is a favourite, but old aircraft also get a fair share of attention, plus ancient battles from our Civil War.

Nice to finally see a bit of Waterloo, but those uniforms do not look like they have seen much combat action.

He's showing the part before the action, Kerouac!
Super photographs, Whatagain and it's incredible how much work is put into getting everything accurate. The only war reenactments I've seen pictures of were of the US Civil War, and of course that was recent enough so that there are actual photos of it.
It's hard to imagine people actually marching and fighting in those get-ups, or even being able to get up on a horse.
