I just finished watching "Sophie: Murder in West Cork" a three episode docuseries on Netflix about the murder of French citizen Sophie Toscan du Plantar in Ireland.
Really interesting story, I had heard about it but didn't know all the details. I feel terrible for her family!

Tonight I watched the first episode of Sweet Tooth. I almost had to turn it off immediately as the scenes of the fictional plague were horrifyingly close to recent news images. Even though I really hate James Brolin's creaky old man narration (he is only 80, for heaven's sake, not 8000), I was completely into the first episode and can't wait to see more. I started watching this with my daughter - her choice of something we would both enjoy for our Friday night get together. 2 episodes in , I am enthralled. Daughter... not as much as I am. For me I find the acting to be terrific , the scenery stunning and on top of that it has some great music.

Oh, I am glad, lugg! The little boys who play Sweet Tooth are precious. I was shattered when they moved on from the 7-yr-old to the 9-yr-old, but he is just as darling and a heck of an actor. I like the pacing of the suspenseful parts in the show, too. Did you recognize "big man"? He made me crazy until I looked up the actor. I now look forward to every evening when I can get my Why Women Kill fix -- soapy & entertaining. I just watched the first episode of season two, which Rotten Tomatoes seems to like better than season one.

No, but my daughter did from his time in Game of Thrones I did not realise Gus was played by different actors - probably because I have not got that far into the series yet.

Lugg, four-year-old Gus was played by River Rain Jarvis and seven-year-old Gus by Nixon Bingley. If you're far enough into the series to know who big man is, the previous boy actors are in the past & you're watching 9- or 10-year-old Gus, played by Christian Convery, for the rest of season one.

Aha --- they did that so well. Anyway finished the series ; it is wide open for the next; fingers crossed. Now, I am a few episodes in to " Virgin River" via Netflix. www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/virgin_river/s01 Really crappy viewing which I am currently watching. It is so awful its almost good.... a bit like a like a soap; pure schmaltz. I suspect I will keep watching , partly because schmaltz is good right now for me and partly because I visited North California years ago and occasionally, I get a glimpse of what I remember of the stunning scenery.

I need to check out Why Women Kill. Hadn't heard of it until now. Which streaming channel is it available on to view Bixa?

Casimira, I think this is correct: CBS All Access (season 1) Paramount+ (season 2)
Original release August 15, 2019 – present
I'm not enjoying Season 2 as much as 1, but it's not bad.

We have finally begun watching SUCCESSION. I love it! I had watched a couple episodes of the 2nd season on an airplane based on spaceneedle’s recommendation from last year, and it’s great to start at the beginning. The characters are not real lovable, but they aren’t supposed to be. It’s a dog eat dog world these people live in, and the family drama is thick. m.imdb.com/title/tt7660850/?ref_=ext_shr_lnkWait until you see the final episode of the most recent season Kimby!!! We just finished Season Two and I gotta agree with Spaceneedle. Looking forward to Season 3.

Okay, I have now watched 12 episodes of Schitt's Creek and it is beginning to amuse me. But will I ever stop hating the characters? I think you’re SUPPOSED to hate the characters, K2. I like the portrayal of the small town and some of its residents very much. My favorite is the motel desk clerk. The dry way she dismisses the entitled son’s complaints hits the spot. We’ve just finished Season 2, and are waiting for Season 3 to be ready for pickup at the library. Though the characters are cringeworthy, cringing is half the fun (sorta like with Larry David’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” or William Macy’s “Shameless”). The season finale was well-crafted and satisfying, with some warm, fuzzy moments. Trying to characterize it, I’d say it has elements of “Green Acres” (wealthy city folk displaced to the country), and “Petticoat Junction” with the sibling rivalries and interactions with the townfolk. (Plus the shows mentioned above.)

Yes, I understand your hopes. I watched all of the seasons and found the ending much too goody-goody. That is not really a spoiler since we all know that Canadians are very nice people.

We began watching Broadchurch last night, we watched the first 2 episodes, enjoying it so far. Last week we watched Bodyguard. My hopes are that there will be another season but reading reports that they are having difficulties. Shitt's Creek is beyond my comprehension level but many seemed to enjoy the series.

Broadchurch and Bodyguard are both excellent, even if they are a bit gruelling.

Just finished 'Hit & Run'on Netflix. All in all pretty intense but suspense maintains throughout. But be warned it is a little violent. Also finished 'Unforgotten' Season 4 which I enjoyed.

We began watching Broadchurch last night, we watched the first 2 episodes, enjoying it so far. Well I am presuming you are watching S1 and if so and you enjoy it rest assured there are more series to come. Finished Virgin River - loved it and really hoping for a next series; it is like comfort food. Just finished and loved Cruel Summer but seriously doubt there will be another series sadly. Cheery thanks for the reminder re new series of Ghosts Currently watching 9 Perfect Strangers; I gave up with the book about 3 or 4 chapters in but Nicole Kidman and Melissa McCarthy make this worth another view tonight.

Broadchurch and Bodyguard are both excellent, even if they are a bit gruelling. I'm getting a bit fed up with harrowing dramas. We're watching one on BBC atm about an investigation into a suicide that turns out to be a murder on a Royal Navy nuclear submarine...can't remember what it's called. (Which says a lot) Series 3 of Afterlife is in the final stages of production. Goodo.

You're not wrong Patrick... Jeff seems to have 'fall back tv'....shows he puts on of an evening that we've probably seen before, but he just wants some viewable scribble on to veg-out to after a busy day fiddling in the garage with his soldering iron (NOT a euphemism!)...I'm generally sewing, reading, listening to an audiobook..or scrolling lazily through fb. My study of his 'nothing else on but this will do' list has produced some quite predictable results. Poirot, Qi, Would I Lie To You?, Midsomer Murders and any concert on Sky Arts are his go to choices He won't turn the tv off until he goes to bed. Bless.

I seem to have developed an unhealthy interest in assorted murder mysteries (I was convinced I'd never bothered with Midsomer Murders, but have been surprised how often I recognise the set-up for an episode, even if fortunately I don't remember how it played out). That and (currently) Allo!Allo!; but I shall say zis only wernce.

That and (currently) Allo!Allo!; but I shall say zis only wernce. Thanks Patrick - I may have to go back to view again. I did love it years ago. I have previously had no time at all for the pompous, bigoted Jeremy Clarkson but my guilty pleasure at the moment is " Clarkson's Farm " ... at times it is absolutely hilarious and often amusing. This review does not agree - glad I ignored it, but it shows how divisive he is ? www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2021/jun/11/clarksons-farm-review-jeremy-the-ignoramus-rides-again

Well I am presuming you are watching S1 and if so and you enjoy it rest assured there are more series to come. We just finished watching Season 2 and are really enjoying it. It is a series where we are never sure what is happening next which is highly unusual as many television programs are predictable and we can figure out their endings, not with this one! Now looking forward to season 3 Patrick since you felt it was better than season 2.

I've babbled on about this before, but without feedback from anyone. Is no one watching Boardwalk Empire? It's in season two and truly great stuff. Martin Scorsese directed the pilot and apparently keeps an artistic hand in. The sets -- particularly the interiors, the casting, the costuming, everything is terrific. And all the music is from the period. www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,2019631,00.html Just a hint of the feel of the series. The man playing pool is Arnold Rothstein. The one in shirtsleeves making the introduction is Lucky Luciano. I have not watched it but as Michael K. Williams, the actor who played one of its characters “Chalky White”, is being eulogized after a drug overdose, I’m inclined to go out and get it. This actor was great as Omar Little in the Wire, too. Boardwalk Empire has been compared to Sopranos, but set during prohibition.

How odd that you quoted that video clip, Kimby. Earlier today I read through part of this thread starting at page one, including looking at that Boardwalk Empire clip again. I'm very sorry to hear about Michael K. Williams, who was a compelling, believable, & subtle actor.
Huckle, thanks for weighing in on Boardwalk Empire! I felt as though I was the voice crying in the wilderness as I repeatedly extolled that great series, but never thought anyone else here was convinced.
Great clip, especially the tiny segment starting at 1:33, which just kills me -- Michael K. Williams at his finest:

I've been watching L'Opéra on OCS about the cutthroat world of the Palais Garnier in Paris. A more accurate title would have been " Ballet" because that's what the Palais Garnier is used for now. As you can imagine, there are new dancers trying to claw their way up and fading étoiles trying not to be kicked out. Everybody else is having sex or smoking weed on the roof of the opera. There is an advisory at the beginning of each episode to warn "this is pure fiction and does not depict real life in the Palais Garnier." No, of course not!
