Now I'm watching season two of Sanditon, although it turns out I've forgotten every single thing that happened in season one. Apparently I have a pretty bad costume drama jones.

And I am continuing with This Is Going to Hurt, which I confess appeals to me even more as the situation worsens, both personal and professional. But that's because I remain optimistic for a suitable outcome. Maybe I am wrong.

We watched the first episode of the Ken Burns miniseries on Ben Franklin on PBS last night.
I always love Peter Coyote’s narration, but the voice of Mandy Patinkin as Franklin is very distracting. I keep seeing Saul from Homeland!
BTW, there are no photographs from Franklin’s time, so it is almost entirely illustrated with works of art depicting the period and the people. If you like woodcuts, there are a lot of them in this production. The panning and zooming camera techniques almost make you forget that it isn’t really video.

I’m watching a series that is just my thing, a combination of cooking and gardening.
Marcus Wareing - Tales from a Kitchen Garden.
He has Michelin starred restaurants but realises he knows nothing about how food is actually produced. He has a property with a walled kitchen garden and is learning from scratch how to grow veg. But also looking after livestock, 2 cows, 3 sheep, 2 pigs and chickens.
He is an absolutely natural presenter, the opposite of Gordon Ramsay and is genuinely surprised at what he is learning. The series is getting 8 out of 10 in reviews.
Very watchable.

That is admirable, but I wonder if he is planning on killing the cows, sheep, pigs and chickens himself or if he is delegating it to others. Having to do that would make a big difference to many of us.

Very few farms do their own slaughtering.

I was going to watch that last evening but had unexpected company show up so I didn't catch it. As much as I love Mandy Patinkin I would feel the same way Kimby. On that note, I will hold off on viewing it.

Very few farms do their own slaughtering. Sorry. I was misled by the idea that he was looking after the livestock himself.

Sorry I must have misunderstood. He is looking after them himself although the 2 cows run with another herd.

Okay, I finished This Is Going to Hurt and I agree that the ending is not fully satisfying, assuming that this is really the end. But it seems to me that a second series is in order although not yet announced.
I particularly appreciated Ben Whishaw and the fact that he looked like shit. Usually he looks well groomed and totally presentable but not this time, all scrawny and sickly. And of course Ambika Mod as Shruti was sensational. She certainly can expect to have a great career after this. Rory Fleck Byrne as Harry was as totally lovable as he needed to be.

The 2nd episode of Benjamin Franklin was much better than the first. Full of history, good for Americans who dozed through their history classes.
Ben Franklin was the Forrest Gump of American history. He was everywhere where significant events were happening and interacted with so many of the big names in history. He should be more famous than he is!

Very interesting, Huckle. Thanks for that bit of information. I’ve had an itch to return to Brittany, and the area around Auray is a part I haven’t visited. I’ll have to add it to my list! I also believe I’d enjoy the PBS/Ken Burns special. Benjamin Franklin is not a historical figure all that well-known to me outside of high school history class.

I'm so pleased that you enjoyed This Is Going To Hurt Kerouac, I read the book when it first came out and thought it was pretty accurate. The book was less pessimistic than the series I seem to remember.

I loved it.
Not at all tempted by Brigerton. If I'm going to watch a fantasy I prefer sci-fi
Watching reruns of Rumpole of the Bailey atm... (which isn't sci-fi!)

Yes, I thought it was quite audacious that the main character's name was authentic.

There is a new series coming to BBC2 on 19th April, for fans of the author Kate Atkinson (Behind the Scenes at the Museum is one of my favourite novels). Based on Life After Life..the clue is in the title...looks promising.
