Just started Season 2 of Tehran. So far so good. I am not familiar with this series. What streaming service is it on Biddy? Sounds to be right up my alley. Thanks.

I'm catching up on season 1 of Parlement since season 2 is about to start. It's about a naive new French assistant in the European pariament. Other people at his level seem to be helping him but mostly they are just screwing with his mind. His boss is a totally incompetent MEP who is of absoutely no help either.

So tonight I decided to watch Life After Life & went into it with a certain amount of enthusiasm. The show is 50+ minutes long. I lasted 14 minutes. I got to about No 3 I think but am no no longer racing back to see more. I continue to sob, laugh and cringe in equal measures as my fave US series, This Is Us, reaches the closing stages . The best soap ever, although of course it is not touted as such. It really is marmite - some of my friends and family love it , others think its crap. I know I will miss it .

I need to start over with This is Us. A Mexican friend, who watches it in Spanish, recommended it. I gave it a look, found it intriguing, then was lured away by other things & forgot about it. Not racing back to see more is how I feel about The First Lady, which is often horrifyingly bad. I gave Billy the Kid about five minutes last night, but quickly decided a show where someone gets blown away at close range in the first 7-8 minutes was not for me. Many of the eagerly anticipated returning series turned out to be sort of cheats. Outlander only had eight episodes this season, and apparently the producers of Sanditon only budgeted for half a series. Huh? It's not a favorite, but I do watch it ... or watched what there was of it. Because I'm pathetic, I still have the last episode of The Last Kingdom waiting to be watched. I can't bear to let it go! Truly, one of the greatest things ever on tv. One tv show that was great when it was great was Vikings (although not as great as The Last Kingdom). Even so, I haven't watched Vikings: Valhalla yet. It's supposed to take place @150 years after the events in Vikings. And to come back to our century, when when when will we finally get the final season of Happy Valley? The start date keeps getting pushed further and further away. www.digitalspy.com/tv/a832987/happy-valley-season-series-3-cast-start-date-filming-bbc-air-date-release/

Luckily I don't know anything about it other than the two or three episodes I watched some time back. It will be all new for me. And speaking of missing something ~~ I finally, finally watched the final episode of The Last Kingdom and can't imagine anything ever topping it. It was the perfect ending to a perfect series. But wait ~ because Bernard Cornwell kept writing more books for his The Saxon Stories series while the tv series was being filmed, there will be a feature length movie encompassing those books that came after the events in the tv series. I am happy about that, of course, but have to say that the five seasons of The Last Kingdom were so well-crafted and so totally satisfying that it's hard to imagine at this moment that there should be more.

A 3 part series on Sky Documentaries started last night about Mother Teresa who was very far from the saint she has been shown to be. Basically a religious maniac.

Quite a number of years ago I became aware she wasn't the saint she was made out to be. Same but in a different way with Gandhi.

Shes too busy getting paid mega bucks for Julia sadly ( I tried my best to stick with it but failed, but I know several of you enjoyed it) I enjoyed it because of the time period details. Also watched it because I'm a fan of Sarah Lancashire, Bebe Neuwirth, & David Hyde-Pierce. The really great performances by Fiona Glascott and Brittany Bradford were big pluses. But I felt no true bond or chemistry between the two Childs and the pacing of the whole thing was labored and plodding.I don't know whether to be excited or dismayed but A Time Traveller's Wife starts here next week .. on Sky /Now etc I am excited! Thanks for alerting me to this -- had no idea.

I agree with bixa about Julia. It started well but I began to lose interest in it. I think a shorter series would have been better.

I liked the book a bunch, too, but that doesn't mean the series won't be good. We shall see. But now, on to something overwhelmingly important, which is how h*a*p*p*y I am to have discovered 🌌 ☄️ Star Trek: Strange New Worlds🌠. I didn't even know about the show until tonight, & just finished watching the first episode. I bow in homage and gratitude to the makers of the show, which has fully captured the way we felt watching original Star Trek back in the latter half of the '60s or somewhat later, in the endless reruns. In fact, I kept wondering if people one or two generations younger than I could possibly appreciate -- nay, adore -- the new series without having that first one baked in as a cultural touchstone. The casting is positive brilliant. Anson Mount is captain of the Enterprise in this iteration. It's subtle, but he does William Shatner as Captain Kirk in a way that is both homage and a giant inclusive wink to those the audience who are in the know. Ethan Peck as Spock is equally satisfying, inhabiting the roll without playing Leonard Nimoy. The feel of the show is similar to the original, too, in its slight hokeyness, in the beloved tropes such as the crew being almost thrown off their feet as the ship sustains a hit, and in the facile wrap-up before the end of the episode. Everyone gets beamed up and their Communicators even look very much the same. Watch it or not, as you please, but all I know is that it gave me fifty-four minutes of pure viewing pleasure and happy nostalgia.

Thank you Bixa - I will seek it out. Such memories of watching it in the 70s with my Dad who was a huge fan. I often miss out viewing on ITV ( not deliberately) but have just stated watching DI Ray -- sticking with it so not turning off after first episode. Here is some info.. www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2022/may/02/di-ray-review-like-line-of-duty-but-with-racism-at-every-turn have the latest espisode on our PVR of This is Us which we are planning on watching tomorrow night. I have not seen any spoilers yet! I have watched every episode and will miss it when it is done. Mich yeah !! I've not seen the last episode ... holding off for when I need something to distract me from life

Nice memory, Lugg! I hope the show delivers for you.
Just watched the first episode of The Time Traveler's Wife. I'm not ready yet to say that Kimby is right about how it's going to be, but also not enthralled by it.
It's sort of like one long meet-cute -- think a Billy Crystal/Meg Ryan opus updated to now. Of course Rose Leslie is better than Meg Ryan because who isn't. But I've never found that she lights up the screen. There is no denying that Theo James is very good looking and I now know that he's very well built as well, due to having seen him naked about seventeen times in that one episode. And therein lies the problem -- there was a lot of the same thing & all dragged out besides.
On the assumption that episode one had to establish lots of stuff, I will go back for episode two in order to find out if the show is worth watching. The theme music is pretty.
What I have stashed to watch is The Essex Serpent. There are two episodes so far.

I shan't be watching that. Thanks for the heads-up, Biddy! What I am watching is The Essex Serpent. I'm two episodes in now, so here's my take ~ First of all, visually it is gorgeous, I mean really beautiful, from the animated William Morris style opening credits to one exquisitely framed vignette after another. There are long painterly shots of the Blackwater estuary with that watery gray light and isolated human figures in the distance. The casting director deserves an award for the collection of faces gathered for the town folk. Separately or en masse, their depiction is obviously and effectively channeling Realist paintings. So far, that's the best part of it, as the show often has a jerky yet sluggish quality to it. Nevertheless, some subplots get developed rather quickly, with socio-political references, the plight of the poor, and medical advances all seen. That would be in the London parts. The rural parts are all superstition, fear, hostility, and menace. All of that is interesting enough, as we don't know where it's leading yet. My big gripe, though, is the acting of the leads, Claire Danes and Tom Hiddleston. For one thing, their acting is remarkably similar, with lots of eye widening (to the point of bugging out their eyes, I swear), nervous smiles, and meaningful looks. I think we're supposed to suspect tamped-down chemistry between them. This idea is complicated by the fact that Hiddleston's wife is played by Clémence Poésy, who has a disconcerting resemblance to Claire Danes. The wife is serene and good, but neurasthenia is hinted at. Perhaps she is wondering why hubby, an Anglican minister, is sporting 21st century beard scruff, instead of proper pompous Victorian whiskers. Your faithful reporter is certainly wondering why all the women in these costume dramas feature the alarmingly thick, yet overly-groomed eyebrows of our own time. The ones weighing down Suranne Jones' face in Gentleman Jack should have their own postal code. But I digress. There are lots of worn, tattered garments in The Essex Serpent, but since Claire Danes plays a rich lady, she gets to show off some exceptional fashions. Anyone else watching?

Well, you did bring to my attention that I posted all of that blather about The Essex Serpent in the wrong thread. <-- embarrassed, but with regular eyebrows. Anyway, thanks for the link, as I didn't know how the real Anne Lister looked. I like the series, not least because Suranne Jones is having so much fun with it. She is such a good actress.

We're watching the latest series of Grace with the wonderful John Simm. Jeff really likes it..I'm not convinced.
We've also watched Loki on the Disney channel..started a bit slow but now we're loving it. If you're a Marvel fan it's fab. I'm amazed as I wasn't a huge Tom Hiddleston fan...

Got through @5 minutes of episode two of the tedious, tedious Time Traveler's Wife. It's unwatchable. Will try to find War of the Worlds. Still looking forward to each episode of Essex Serpent, even though I roll my eyes all the way through it. Gentleman Jack, having dispensed with some of the turgid romantic squabbles which earlier bogged it down, is great entertainment. The cast is out of this world ~ m.imdb.com/title/tt7211618/fullcredits/cast

Oh dear - I am going to start the Time Traveller's Wife tonight but given APs reviews I think I will be disappointed. Finished the final ever episode of This Is Us - generally quite satisfying, what did you think Mich ? I generally avoid game show type things with celebrities, but after being urged to watch Freeze The Fear , I am now 3 down and finding it really fascinating. I am not willing still to plunge into an ice cold bath though. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0bwtn6q
