There’s been a 2 part series called The Beginning and End of the Universe that I wanted to watch. The first part, The Beginning, was last week but my TV was playing up and I struggled to watch it. Last night was The End and I settled to watch it. It was hard going with a lot of heavy physics way over my head and I was struggling to keep my eyes open but I was determined to see it all. After all that they finished by saying “we don’t really know”!
Gawd. I could have watched the football instead..

Watched the last episode of The Chelsea Detective and cant wait for the next series being made this year. The breathtaking aerial photography of the magnificent Chelsea Bridge in all its light globe splendour took me back to a chilly early evening on the Chelsea Embankment, simply waiting for the lights to come on. It is my favourite London bridge with Hammersmith Bridge a close second.

Mick. I didn't see that altho I've watched many similar documentaries. I always feel a bit let down, especially when the scientists start saying 'this is what we think might happen/have happened'. My Dad and I would talk about it for hours..for years he believed in the 'steady state'with the universe having no beginning and no end..which I could NOT grasp at all. Then in the 80s and 90s we started hearing more and more about the 'big bang'and the expanding universe...red shift and STUFF. We understood (in theory ) whilst it was being explained...Trying to recall and discuss it all tho generally ended with us resorting to a glass or three of whisky and giving up..agreeing that it was fascinating but way too complicated for us.

I read a theory that there have been many big bangs. The universe gets born, dies then starts all over again. I have enough difficulty grasping 13.8 billion years as it is.... And I certainly can’t grasp that time didn’t exist until Big Bang.

The only tv show I have going now is Happy Valley, which you fans of it know is hardly jolly and uplifting. Scrolling morosely through one of those "best shows of 2022" lists, I came upon Hacks again & remembered that anything with Jean Smart is worth watching. I've only seen the first two (half hour) episodes, but she is wonderful -- each time she appears on screen I think, "oh goody!". The young woman foil is quite unlikeable so far, but I suspect that's on purpose. I don't think this trailer really conveys how much fun the show is ~

I'm with Mick - Can't stand Alan Carr and even more, Michael MacIntyre! So I see Carr is going to replace David Walliams on Britain's Got Talent. That's cooked it for me.

Thanks for those recommendations, Lugg, which I never would have found on my own. I am intrigued & confused by the deep fake neighbors premise and execution, so will just have to watch it. The Italian job thing should be interesting, too. I saw a youtube or something on a person -- I think the actress who played the psychiatrist in The Sopranos -- fixing up one of those $1 Sicilian houses. I can tell from the still photographs that Alan Carr could be a personality who annoys people, but your dog comment makes me predisposed to like him.

Enzo loves his dog series and I enjoy it too ...but I neglected to mention it is children's orientated, sorry. If you want something a little more adult have a look at Paul O'Grady ~ For The Love Of Dogs - also good viewing - I think the last 2 series (at least) is available

We were intrigued by all the excitement over Happy Valley. We didnt watch any of the previous series (or this one)...but soaked up enough of the plot to be able to watch the final episode it was very good...but we dont feel the need to watch any other episodes Watched His Dark Materials again. Cried a LOT. The latest series of The Great British Pottery Throwdown is on atm, I'm thoroughly enjoying it and full of admiration for all the potters.

We watched a couple episodes of Emmy Award nominated comedic series ABBOTT ELEMENTARY, about an underfunded dysfunctional inner city school, but it failed to capture our interest. www.imdb.com/title/tt14218830/Also watched 3 episodes of GHOSTS. It’s a fun premise, though not executed the way we would have done it. Ghosts - of everyone who ever died at a stately but decaying manor home - try to discourage the young couple who inherit the house - from an aunt they didn’t know they had - from turning it into a hotel. We’ll give it a another couple episodes to win us over. But it’s pretty broad in its silliness. Looking for a trailer, I became aware that we are watching the BBC version. www.imdb.com/title/tt8594324/There is also a cheap copycat American knockoff. I can’t imagine that the US version beats the Brit version. www.imdb.com/title/tt11379026/

So strange seeing Grantchester as a bad boy.

I finally watched the finale, which I'd set aside for fluffier fare which my current mood needs.
Overall, Happy Valley was an impressive feat, especially because of the cast and how they delivered. James Norton's villain is such a convincing character study that it will take some effort to erase that image the next time I see Norton in a show.
But I have to say that the finale just didn't do it for me -- the puppeteer (Sally Wainwright) was simply too visible behind the curtains, no matter that her actors give it their all.

At the moment I'm watching 'Strike' from the J.K. Rowling mystery series re private investigator. I like it alot, very appealing characters. Another new series on HBO is 'The Last of Us'. It is set in the future during a pandemic and crazed zombies are everywhere. There are some really scary scenes that I cannot watch but it's well done.

I'm watching the 10-part version of The Haunting of Hill House. It has strayed quite far from the source material, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The book was brilliant and the 1963 movie was good, but "linear" was the rule of most storytelling in those days. Times have changed.

We just started watching The Great, a costume dramedy that is the “occasionally true” origin story of Russia’s Catherine the Great. Emperor Peter is an audacious cad played much in the style of Tom Hulce’s Amadeus. Elle Fanning is radiant as the new Empress.
The costumes are great, Bixa.
From the Roger Eberts website:
“The Great is a satirical, comedic drama about the rise of Catherine the Great from outsider to the longest-reigning female ruler in Russia's history. The series is fictionalized and portrays Catherine in her youth and marriage with Emperor Peter III and focuses on the plot to kill her depraved and dangerous husband. It is wickedly funny, lusciously drawn, and beautifully costumed…It is based on the play by Tony McNamara. Elle Fanning as Catherine the Great Nicholas Hoult as Peter III of Russia Phoebe Fox as Marial Sacha Dhawan as Grigory Orlov Charity Wakefield as Georgina Dymov Gwilym Lee as Grigor Dymov Adam Godley as Archbishop “Archie” Douglas Hodge as General Velementov Belinda Bromilow as Aunt Elizabeth”

I adored The Great! Elle Fanning is brilliant, although I wondered if they needed to even pay her, she was obviously having so much fun. Nicholas Hoult was perfect as well -- clueless, horrible, & funny in equal measure. Really, every performance was out of this world & you''re so right about the costumes. Huzzah! After years of disapproving of my friends who binge-watch, I am now whipping my way through Bad Sisters.

Kimby, I devoured both seasons. The next season will air on May 12, with Hulu releasing all ten episodes at the same time. I just hope I have the discipline to take ten days to watch them.
Just watched the last episode of Bad Sisters, which is extremely well done and entertaining. Apparently there will be a second season, although everything got wrapped up in this season.

Took advantage of Delta’s free seat back entertainment system to re-watch the first 8 episodes of the first season of This is Us on our long travel day to Florida. I’m loving being reintroduced to each character knowing how they figure in later in the story. And the jumping around in time was much easier to accept. I do love this series.

I am back at the gym and i found Sharpe series on youtube. Dates from the 90's. Love it. I tried to watch it years ago but couldn't follow. Apparently my English improved, now i catch it. Better so, since tbe undertitles are in Spanish... hardly helpful for me.
