Can’t wait til Handmaid season one is available at our library!
We’re midway through season 5 of The Americans, about a pair of Russian spies embedded in suburban Virginia, working for their mother country while blending in as a family, with real kids, though their marriage was arranged as a cover for their espionage activities.
We liked the first 4 seasons a lot, but 5 seems slow-paced to both of us. Hope it picks up.
I like the endless variety of wigs and disguises they don as they fool everyone including the FBI guy who lives across the street.

The finale of Handmaid's Tale should be available to me tonight. I have to be in just the right mood to watch it -- alert, not too tired, and feeling emotionally strong. Anyone watching the series will know what I mean!
Kimby, I rejected The Americans without ever watching it since it's about spies -- a subject that never fails to bore and confuse me. But you make it sound quite interesting!

I read somewhere that the makers of The Handmaid's Tale want to make TEN series...I don't know how they'd string it out...each episode leaves me drained.... On Netflix (to avoid the football and tennis) OH is watching Sniffer a Russian tv series about an 'expert' with a phenomenal sense of smell (better than it sounds) and I've just started watching Unforgotten...missed it when it was on terrestrial tv. It's like a gentler version of Bones

The first season at least is worth a try. Keri Russell is the female lead, a nice change from the bloated-lip Angelina Jolie type lead you might expect!

It's a good show & I need to get back to it. Wow on spinning out Handmaid's Tale. Ten seasons is a bunch for any show. It's such a strong show, I'd hate to see it fizzle away the way that so many shows that refuse to end do. Thanks, Kimby -- I'll keep The Americans in mind now.

A new series of Unforgotten starts here on Sunday night. That's on ITV. BBC has followed up its gloomy rural Anglo-Welsh Noir series Hidden, with another Welsh-based mystery, Keeping Faith, the opening reviews for which are good (haven't started on it yet). On the bonnet front, ITV have announced an adaptation of Jane Austen's unfinished Sanditon. It's by Andrew Davies, so it'll likely be a bit more explicit and indecorous than she might have expected. And they're also working on a new adaptation of Vanity Fair. My blog | My photos | My video clips | My Librivox recordings"too literate to be spam"

TEN seasons of Handmaid's Tale? ? Hard to believe and I almost disapprove lest it go the route Bixa describes. Please, please tell me that those who saw the finale did not gasp when they show that "new" home introduced into the series??? And, our "new" characters? I gave The Americans a go and didn't get far. Generally I really love spy stuff but I couldn't engage somehow. I'll try and give it another go. I am now onto an Australian production, a crime series, Secret City and I am very into it. Not quite bingeable but close. I forget the name of the city that it tales place in but, the scenery alone is gorgeous. (It begins with a "C" ….I'll look it up later.) Edited to add: Canberra is the city. Right on the coast and oh so beautiful!!

Canberra is not on the coast. It's on a lake.

Canberra is not on the coast. It's on a lake. Well, glancing at a map I do see it is indeed not on the coast but indeed a lake which accounts for the lovely water scenes. BUT, a quick glance, and most especially for those ignorant souls of the vast geography of the world, it is awfully close to the Pacific. (nit picking, "know it all" thread jacker!!!! )

We are nearing the end of the third season of Shameless. It keeps getting better, though William H. Macy as Frank Gallagher is cringe-worthy, he’s so shameless.

I have watched various episodes every now and then and can never decide if the series should be retitled Disgraceful. I know that William H. Macy has to eat, but if I were an actor I don't know if I could accept such a role.

Re: Shameless. Joan Cusack is so twitchy and quirky and awkward in her OCD-addled psyche as Sheila, that it makes me squirm to watch her.
Rikita, is/was Joffery a character in a series?

Oh, cool! Are the places marked, or did you have a map or something showing the locations? Did they look very much as they do in the show?

the guide book mentioned them (in the case of dubrovnik, there was a list of locations, at other places it was a side note in the general description of sights) - only time i saw some mention at the sight though was in klis fortress near split (mereen), where a small room in the back part of the fortress had some photos from the filming ... some places looked really different, others seemed vaguely familiar - i'll want to rewatch the series at some point and then it'll be interesting if i recognize places that way around ... (we didn't see all filming locations of course, but if we were near something or it was an interesting place anyway, we had a look).

Wonder how many people have spit on Joffrey's death site.

ah, funnily that was the place i got into a big discussion with agnes - telling her that even pretending to spit towards anyone (like me) is very rude and can also get her in big trouble - so she said "but spitting on the floor or on a wall is okay, right?" and then was asking where then she can spit if she wants to spit ...

The BBC is currently running a second series of The Big Life Fix, where they bring together a team of engineers and designers to try and design equipment to improve the lives of people with assorted and sometimes extreme conditions. There are some pretty amazing results (some "good news" TV for a change), though one does wonder how it must feel for other people who might be in the same situation to watch, given that these are all one-off custom designs, costing who knows what. It would be great to see some follow-up to see how much is taken up as improvements to existing aids and supports. I don't know if it would be sold outside the UK but there are a few clips on Youtube My blog | My photos | My video clips | My Librivox recordings"too literate to be spam"

Does anyone besides me watch Harlots? Lesley Manville's acting is a joy and Jessica Brown-Findlay has certainly shed any last trace of Lady Sybil's sweetness, to great effect. It's presently in season two, but here's the season one trailer ~

Anyone else watched/watching Godless? Long (1 hour 10 minutes) episodes, beautifully crafted. Dark, grim, leisurely, with great acting.

Struggling through Season 2 of ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK. Mr. Kimby gave up after 3 episodes, I watched two more by myself. His complaint: nothing happens in prison, the sets and costumes are boring and the women are mostly homely and unappealing.
Plus it’s kind of a “chick flick”. The first season had novelty going for it. Now it needs to build some momentum. But my sister and her husband binge-watched the whole current season (6?) and enjoyed it, so maybe it did find its groove.
Since Shameless Season 4 has come in at the library, we will be saying farewell to the ladies of the Litchfield Correctional Institute.

i suppose different people like different things - though i must admit i find the complaint that the costumes are boring and the women aren't pretty enough a bit strange ... it'd be kind of weird if they all looked like models out of a magazine ...

That’s why Mr. Kimby thinks the series (Orange is the New Black) isn’t a good fit for him. He’s very visually-oriented, a radiologist by training and a photographer by hobby.
