After the disappointing film version of the first Philip Pullman book of His Dark Materials trilogy I'm happy to see that the BBC, together with HBO are making a tv series....looks much closer to the book. I don't know why I hated the film version so much because the casting was excellent (aside from Lyra imo)...they strayed from the storyline quite lot.

I just finished watching the pilot episode of Legion and am pretty impressed. What impressed me the most was Dan Stevens' performance. I've always considered him the very essence of bland, but he was outstanding in this show. It remains to be seen how far I continue with it, but I'll definitely watch a couple more episodes to see. Jean Smart is in it!
PEE ESS! I just watched the trailer you posted, Cheery, and ooooooooooooooooooo!!! I know what I'll be watching next! *excitement*

Ooh will have to search Legion out Bixa. Cheers Cheery for the heads up- looks good too. I am now about to watch Episiode 4 of Series 2 of Keeping Faith / Un Bore Mercher - I absolutely loved the first series so was very excited to finally watch Series 2. Somehow it is just not doing it for me this time. Amy Wadge's music however is as excellent as before. Others disagree re Series 2 and the reviews are generally good. www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2019/jul/23/keeping-faith-series-two-review-return-of-the-mac

I think series 2 of Keeping Faith is a bit slow to get off the ground, not least because the first episode had me scrabbling through my memory to place what happened to a lot of the secondary characters. Unfortunately I couldn't find an online synopsis of Series 1 that would have helped. My blog | My photos | My video clips | My Librivox recordings"too literate to be spam"

No, I hadn't seen that, thanks for it, but it still only covers the main outline. I'm nitpicking a bit, but puzzling over why Arthur seems to have been taken on as a live-in nanny, and who Saran is and why Faith was apologising to her. But no doubt all will become clearer as we go along. (And I don't worry about not being able to make out the dialogue, I seem to manage that OK and have the subtitles on in any case (actually they can annoy when I can tell they've got something wrong!) We've given in. We're watching Killing Eve it's had rave reviews...and we adore Phoebe Waller-Bridge. The first episode has us sucked in.

Isn't it something, Cheery?! My comments on the Season 3 finale (episode 10) of Handmaid's Tale: {Spoiler}First my criticism: Those people didn't have a turkey baster, a plastic cup, a rolled up paper tube -- nothing? Sheesh. That could have been handled more creatively and intelligently. I understand the dramatic import, etc., but really!
The good stuff: Jeanine -- such a small part in this episode, but performed so brilliantly.
The muffins!
The last line in the episode -- perfect!

It's my turn to have finally seen Years and Years. It is excellent of course, but I must confess that I was a bit disappointed by the final episode -- everything was suddenly resolved too easily after all of the crap these people had been through. I'm thinking that there might have been hope for 8 episodes but they were told that there would only be 6 and to wrap everything up.
This was amazing easy money for Emma Thompson, because she really appeared not all that much, but she made such a nauseating impression every moment that she was on screen that she was the absolute star. Funny though, as perfect as she was, I kept imagining recasting the role with other actresses -- Tilda Swinton (but that wouldn't have worked because she is too creepy and people would not have voted for her), Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, Meryl Streep doing one of her accents... It's amazing how many possibilities there could be, giving a different nuance each time.

You're probably right about the rushed ending, Bixa thought so too.
Predictably Jeff is rushing through Killing Eve so we've started on series 2 already.

Many thanks to Cheery and Patrick for turning me on to Mum. Leslie Manville is simply brilliant in whatever role she graces. Have other of her fans out there watched Harlots? It's in season three right now and keeps coming up with new twists. One of the shining lights of the show is Jessica Brown Findlay, who turns out a relatable and lively performance. I always though her Lady Sybil in Downton Abbey was the simpiest and most boring of the sisters, but her character in Harlots is the complete opposite.

When cable TV first started developing in France, one of the channels showed Route 66 non stop. I became addicted. That channel also showed a French series called Les Globe-Trotters from the same period that was just as addictive. Absolutely the same concept but the two friends went around the world bumming rides on cargo ships and maverick pilots.

We are 3 episodes into Handmaid’s Tale. Liking (if like is the right word for such a dark tale) it so far, though Mr. Kimby finds the pacing a bit slow.
Homeland Season 7 has just come into our possession, and it may take precedence.

I'm watching Beforeigners and absolutely loving it. It's one of those shows that allows the characters to unfold at a comfortable, so you get invested in them gradually but well. Besides a great premise, the casting is wonderful.

I'm in mourning until season 2 of Beforeigners starts. I watched the last episode of the first season last night, wherein an extremely cool twist was introduced that is guaranteed to have fans puzzling and theorizing until next season.
Tonight I watched my very first episode of The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice. It's not as fall-off-your-chair funny as Insert Name Here, but has some of the same sort of humor & is awfully entertaining.

It mostly depends on who the guest celebrities are, I guess. Some of them are duds. I watched the most recent episode last night. It had Paul Hollywood, so that was fun, although the two women guests were boring. I like everything else -- the pictures people send in, the contestants bumped from the show, etc. I've avoided the show forever and only gave it a chance because I was getting so twitchy waiting for the next episode of GBBO, but now I see its appeal. Thank gawwwd I can watch episode four of GBBO tonight.

I have to say that the description of this show and its trailer didn't sound that much like something I'd like. I gave it a chance & was well hooked after three episodes.

The current BBC thriller/mystery series is The Capture, a convoluted tale in which CCTV and its uses and misuses are the plot hooks. And I see they're re-running Series 6 of "Spiral" (Engrenages) in the middle of the night from next Sunday; I've set my PVR, since the trailer for Series 7 is also appearing on the BBC website, which suggests it may be on its way (at last), and I probably need to brush up on what happened last time. Mind you, I've still got one and half series of Scandiwegian mayhem to catch up on as well. My blog | My photos | My video clips | My Librivox recordings"too literate to be spam"

We are watching Season 7 of Homeland, and the parallels to today’s current events are striking. And unsettling. The actor who plays the fear-mongering white nationalist blogger is chillingly right on. Not liking where this is going...
There apparently will be a Season 8 airing in February. I wonder if there will be a new POTUS by then, both in the series, AND in the US...
