A very popular low cost airline has decided to cancel up to 50 flights a day until the end of October basically because they are short of pilots. People are only notified some 3 days before their flight.
I'm booked to fly to Spain with them on October 5th...

I've been reading the shit storm this has caused. They say they worked out holidays for the pilots wrong because they are changing the holiday year from April to March to Jan to Dec. I also read the conjecture that up to 400 pilots had left to join Norweigian. One problem was people only being told a few days before that their flight has been cancelled. Now the reports are that Ryanair have been under a lot of pressure to publish the full cancellation list. This they are now going to do so - "The details of all the cancelled flights will be on the Ryanair website over the next 24 hours, the firm said." www.bbc.com/news/business-41311603

When you pay peanuts you get monkeys. No wonder 400 pilots left. As for O'Leary he criticized recently M May for going to Japan instead of taking care of Brexit. Just read someone describing him as the Trump of the low cost carriers.

The website is only showing cancellations to September 28 this morning although my daughter reckons I would have had an email overnight if cancelled.
In my favour we are flying from Stansted to Malaga which is a very popular route.

In not so many years, three or four maybe, we are thinking of buying an apartment along that bit of the coast you go to. Something to rent out but mainly for us to use at the seaside and for the kids to use we we are not there. Cheap rates for Anyporters as well.

I don't have to do Saturday to Saturday do I. Do you provide linen?Do I get a welcome pack? Can you organise a taxi pick up?

You can come any day you want but you won't get the keys until Saturday. Or whichever day I decide at the time. Linen will be ex-hospital cast-offs. Only mildly stained. The welcome pack will consist of take-away brochures for the local pizza, Indian, Chinese and kebab shops. Only. None of that fancy foreign Spanish muck. I can organise a couple of burros and an old smelly bloke to pull them. That's about it. Sounds good huh!

k2, you can't fly directly with Ryanair to my yet-to-be-purchased apartment. The garden won't big enough. I suggest via Malaga Airport would be the best bet. Mick, I see my place to be on a par, if not admittedly a little worse, than a hotel in Malaga I've always had my eye on. It is accommodation I'd model my apartment on and that I'd aspire to. I can't find a review on TA but there is a few on Booking.com The best is - "It was a brothel not a hotel, a man we met in the corridor grabbed my partner and said something in Spanish we didn't understand but backed off as I stepped towards him. You could hear people having sex all night. The website for this "hotel" advertises as a brothel but on booking dot com the only thing that gives it away is the photos and I was too innocent to pick up on that. My gf had so much anxiety from this trip we had to book another hotel and we ended up being charged twice for the full fours days for the hotel Miami one which we only stayed at for one night." Another review states as a positive, "24 hour massage" and Ludwig who probably felt bad about leaving a poor review ended on a high note. He said, "Very hard beds, very thin walls - very noisy. Friendly staff." I bet they were. Especially for the right money. Alan wasn't best pleased, "It was a sleazy hotel that can be booked by the hour that had sex toy, lube, whips and hooker to" though does add, "Your room menu in room." I'm not sure if it is a food menu or a "services" menu. www.booking.com/hotel/es/miami-malaga1.en-gb.html?aid=397594;label=gog235jc-index-XX-XX-XX-unspec-zm-com-L%3Aen-O%3AwindowsS10-B%3Afirefox-N%3Ayes-S%3Abo-U%3Asalo-H%3As;sid=d3804a339db3f72f13f9345840029b1d;dest_id=-390787;dest_type=city;dist=0;group_adults=2;hapos=1;hpos=1;room1=A%2CA;sb_price_type=total;srepoch=1505849904;srfid=d119cca96d6342a1f2d1971ed9bb3725a31f0a37X1;srpvid=684e8a17840005bb;type=total;ucfs=1&#tab-mainIt's nice they supply the lube. I'll have to remember that for my place.

Hey! Don't knock (!) brothels as accommodation. I inadvertently stayed in one for 5 days in Penang. LP listed it as budget hotel and I arrived late at night and quite ill. The girls were kind, bringing me water and food and chatting with me. When well enough I ventured out and it was only on my return that I realised the nature of the "Business Men's Hotel." The rooms were basic, clean and like all Chinese cheapies had no sheets or toiletries. I always carry a long sarung which I used here as a sheet. There were hot water showers but you had to give an hour's notice so they could heat that room's water. The location was in the centre of the tourist area and I'd stay there anytime again.

I had to stay in such a place in Las Vegas once, arriving unexpectedly on New Year's eve with no reservation. There was a giant mirror above the bed. I'm sure it must be interesting when you are with someone, but when you are sleeping alone it is highly disconcerting.
As for Ryanair, the press reports are getting worse and worse as the days go by. But since they are the biggest airline in Europe, they will survive easily.

We are flying Brussels-Alicante on Ryanair on Sept. 30. Our flight is not on 'the list'. I must say that I have always been satisfied with Ryanair. We have flown them more than a dozen times and their flights have always been on time or even a little early. We have come back from Nice yesterday with TUIFly and our flight was delayed for more than an hour, both on the way to Nice and on the way back. That's what I hate about flying (and public transport in general). 'The list' (until end Oct). link

It's the American Airlines where we've had problems.

I can't believe I didn't get into my usual rant about Ryanair. We took a flight in sept 2008 (...) with our son who was in a wheelchair and who was just out of hospital after his last chemo. Ryanair personal has been absolutely disgusting. To the north déception of one guy who kept telling me there was no way I would get priority boarding for my handicapped child but was giving me 2 tickets under the table. In short if I could have killed them based on their inhumanity there would have been no survivor in their company.

That obviously brings to mind one of today's top news stories in France, albeit not concerning Ryanair. An SNCF ticket checker (French National Railways) demanded to see the invalidity discount card of one of the passengers (who happens to be a relatively famous author). The man in question is a quadruple amputee. The employee will not get in trouble since he was only following official procedures, but he certainly did not make any friends.

That's what happens when you any power to small-minded people who use it to make themselves feel important. I will forever despise two Easyjet employees, check-in person + a security person, at Gatwick airport.

At Manchester airport I found myself with 3 businessmen sheltering an old lady and sending back such an EasyJet lady. She came and yelled - yelled - towards a 70+ lady that she had the right to have ONE luggage. Yet she had a book in hand ! Thus two pieces of luggage. She was fumbling to put it in her bag when the fitst businessman - a gentleman - offered to put the book in his own bag. The easyJet 'lady' came to him saying it was not allowed. Came 3 other guys asking ah why is it forbidden ? Show us Where in your procedures ? She tried to continue but realised she was losing and backtracked. Bitch.
Btw I got today a mail from Ryanair marketing saying they had one million seats to offer at good prices. Usually it goes in my junk mail but I answered it. I asked if the planes would take off.
Small of me I know ...

Just before the news reports came out about Ryanair, I was actually on their website looking at rates from Dublin to Paris as we are considering Ireland/France next September! Hopefully by then they will have resolved these issues. I can only imagine how frustrating this must be for the thousands of passengers this has affected whether it be for holiday travel or business, it must be beyond frustrating for all concerned. The staff as well are in an impossible situation, they must be very stressed.
When we arrived in Milan we had to wait 4 hours for our luggage to be off loaded. We think there was a dispute between Air Canada and the third party provider they use at the airport for ground service and we were in line to report lost luggage with all the other passengers when they finally said problem fixed. Nothing we could do but wait, I think they were frustrated with all of us because on the whole because we were too patient and understanding, I do not think we were the bunch for them to make their point.
When we arrived back in Canada an employee in the custom clearance area seen me having a panic attack and let us through the maze of barriers to get us to a quick line through customs. It was so kind of her.
