I'm collecting recipes that taste good whilst not being too fattening.
I have a sweet tooth but have steered clear of chocolate, cakes and biscuits. I fancied something sweet today so made this low fat, low sugar dessert.
Tub of quark...about 300g. 3 low sugar, low fat strawberry yogurts (or other flavour) I like Danone yogurts but not sure what's available overseas. 1 packet of low sugar jelly crystals (same flavour as the yogurts) dissolved in only half a pint of boiling water Fresh or frozen strawberries or raspberries, blueberries whichever you fancy.
Put the fruit into the bottom of your serving dish. Mix together all the other ingredients until well blended and frothy on top. Pour the mixture over the fruit Cover with cling film and set in the fridge for at least two hours.
It's lovely. Light and creamy. Nom.

Another dessert...strawberry granita.
500g strawberries, hulled Sweetener to taste Juice of large lemon
Blitz strawberries to a smooth puree in a food processor Add sweetener, lemon juice and about 600ml water. Blitz again. Rub mixture through a fine sieve into a bowl, then pour into a shallow freezer container. Freeze until ice crystals start to form around the sides and bottom of the container. Take out of the freezer and scrape the ice away from sides and base with a fork, breaking it up into smaller crystals. Repeat every 30 min until you have a grainy mixture. Serve with sliced strawberries.

Cheery - I have to disagree with the low fat. Its a blind fold for more alarming additives. I will only eat Fat or Extra fat yogurt as recommended by doctors and dietitians. For the simple reason a persons brain is pure fat and your body needs fat BUT obviously THE GOOD FAT mainly like Avocado and nuts. That does not rule out dairy fat altogether so rather leave out the butter and heavy cream. You are the one with a nursing degree - I'm just a person being bombarded with information off the Internet....Whada I know

I'm just trying to lose weight Tod so I'm avoiding a lot of fatty food. I sill have some fat in my diet. (I don't have a nursing degree...I left after one year. My qualifications are in biomedical science and immunoheamatology). You're no doubt correct. There are some low fat yogurts that have extra sugar in them...I avoid those like the plague! I take fats in the form of oily fish, nuts and seeds (and there's avocado but I don't like them) and use olive oil when cooking. Some vitamins are lipid soluable so I now that I need somefats in my diet

Cheery you seemed to be on the right path for sure. I was watching an episode of The Kitchen last week and Jeffrey Zakarian's ( The Iron Chef) new oil for cooking is Avocado Oil. Apparently it is far superior in every way to olive oil. Soon as my bottle of Olive is finished Im going to give it a try. Have you tried avocado in a Guacamole? The onion and tomato might carry it through for you - not on nachos tho! Will have to be some seed bread or Provita. As for sugar...just got back from the doctor and he nearly had a stroke ( and so did I) when he saw my sugar level was over 9 !! He said should be around 4-5. So guess who did not have wine with her lunch, or sugar in the espresso coffee afterwards....and no chips just vegetables with my fish. I will be popping in to see if you can give me any tips at all on how to cope with DENIAL !

I damn the sugar in alcohol. Otherwise, I am sure it would be completely harmless.

The lady being offered an empty plate is watching her husband chatting up another woman. Her waitress is palming a small cake for her kid at home. In the centre Mother is bribing the kids to play somewhere else. Lady in blue has slipped some rum in her tea and gone back for more. Striped blazer is telling an extremely boring story to lady in black/gold skirt His wife is with her friend. She has a red cap and is thinking,"If he doesn't shut up I will stage a faint" Two young men are planning to slope off to the pub damn soon. The 2 men with beards are discussing business. The older man holds out it should be run like his grandfather did but the red head is the Union rep. and wants change.

even if the moths haven't eaten it I doubt if I could still get into it. That was only last year, Patrick! What have you been doing to yourself? But it was nice that you got all dressed up to make a good impression. Is that Roger Federer in the background No. That man in the middle, between the woman in the white dress pouring tea and the maid tossing crumbs into my lap is Mossie. He was demonstrating how to come in on a wing and a prayer. We have trashed poor Cheery's lovely and useful food thread!

Back to basics
Bell peppers and tomatoes au gratin
•2 green bell peppers •2 yellow bell peppers •4 medium tomatoes •4 tablespoons of breadcrumbs •2 teaspoons of olive oil •1 bunch of basil • coarse salt (fleur de sel if you're feeling wealthy) • a twist of the pepper mill (that means about 5 twists for people like me)
Cut up everything appropriately. You know how to do that, as well as how to array it in an oven dish. Crumbs on top, of course. 25 minutes in a 210° oven. The basil gets chopped up and put on top at the end, just before serving.
A portion (but what is a portion???) is only 140 calories.

The basic thing is to have dishes centred on vegetables. It doesn't mean eschewing any oil (which helps digesting vegetables) and you need not be fully vegetarian - we need protein, whatever the animal or vegetable source. And obviously, eating smaller portions. We need less food than when we were 20 or 30. I've banished my dinner plates to the top shelf and eat from tapas dishes, small assiettes creuses (sort of soup plates, but small). No weird diets.
That said, I do NOT feel in good shape right now, with the never-ending snow. I haven't put on any weight, but that is mostly because I have little appetite. Although I do some stretches at home with little weights, I'm not getting enough exercise. Hope this ends soon so I can walk and cycle more.

This looks like the sort of thing I'd make spontaneously, without a recipe, though on a strict diet, I certainly wouldn't bother with the sweet potato chips, as they are rather a lot of work: www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/sicilian_fish_with_sweet_20289 There are other suggestions in this set of recipes.
