I just googled "direct distance between Australia and CDG " and got those numbers. Don't forget we fly up and over the bulging part of the sphere while your flights are more north-south. No, I haven't a clue what this means, either.

The bulge is just 43km. Just to be pedantic.

OMG ! you got what I meant! I just got a visual of a squished sphere adding distance, but it is pretty pathetic number of km. I reckon I walk that far getting to the departure lounges in S'pore, KL and Dubai.

Well wow....
I've had house guests for ages so I've not caught this until now. We may be around but it's unlikely...our eldest has a big birthday that week in June so we were all going away for a few days together to celebrate...at the very least we'll be having several parties, meet ups with family and trips to places like Harry Potter World (!) x

sorry, the times when i could just spontaneously go to paris for a weekend (and could deal well with two overnight bus trips in close succession) are kind of over, at least for now - and during the week is even more difficult, i am already using up almost all my free days for various trips and need the few remaining ones for christmas ... so, sorry, but i don't think i can make it ...

Rikita we are planning on being in Stuttgart in September 2019 (World Artistic Gymnastic Championship) but it would be interesting to fly into Berlin and make our way down there afterwards or even the other way around depending on the schedule of everyone else. It would be very exciting if that works out!
(Now if I could just get into making some decisions about September 2018.)

september should work well for me, i will be in town then (as a. has started school by then, so no travel necessary - and wow, can't even imagine her being in school yet, and it is so soon!) ...
if you need help for planning (like tips on places to visit on the way) i will be happy to help!

If you invite all 20 of us to dinner, I don't think I want Agnes to be in charge of the menu.

As you may see from another thread, I have just returned from a Paris trip, absolutely exhausted. I am considering joining you all but will give it a day or two to see how well I recover, my legs have rebelled. Do not get old, as I tell everyone.

I saw the other thread before seeing this post, Mossie, so have already nagged you about getting to the get-together. Nevertheless: be there or be square!

We are having a family get-together just before that date in June, so I don't know if I can make it. Furthermore, the trains are supposed to be on strike on the two previous days as well. Will have to let you know in due course.

There is still quite a bit of time for people to make decisions. And I'm sure that Mossie will be fully recovered.

Having had my arm twisted I have now booked a short trip to coincide with this shindig. I will arrive on the Saturday prior and leave on the Wednesday, these days avoid the SNCF strikes so hopefully I will not have the panic which attended my recent trip. Both days out and home were strike days.
My booked train on the way out was cancelled, but my luck held. I was regularly checking the website so picked up on the cancellation early, rang Eurostar and got booked onto the next train, phew. I had a meeting arranged with a friend, but more importantly my niece, complete with husband and three daughters, were also visiting Paris, so we had an excellent reunion.

SO happy, Mossie! This way some of us will get to see Mossie and everyone will benefit from some more of his great Paris coverage. Yaaaay. And congratulations on dodging the missed train bullet & on a lovely visit with family. Bjd, I will continue to hope you'll be able to make it.

Also hope your legs are better, Mossie. You say 'don't get old', but then I'd have to die. Not in any hurry for that!

This may not need to be said, but ...... I hope that anyone who might decide not to attend the get-together because he or she is traveling with another person understands that it would be great if you brought that person along. Also, whether or not you can make it to Paris on June 19, if you'll be someplace with an opportunity to meet another anyporter, conquer any shyness you might feel and reach out to that person to see if you all can meet up. It will be rewarding!

Now I am wearing my size 10 ammunition boots, I will wade in and hope not to tread too clumsily on any toes. The big bunfight is now just three weeks away, so may I suggest this place for the meeting. The terrass is right beside the Bassin with a view down it. It can be busy with petanque and the curious Finnish bowls game www.panamebrewingcompany.com/enEasiest access is from metro Laumiere and walk up Av Jean Juares to rue de Crimee, left onto Crimee and when reaching the Pont Levant over the canal, turn left onto Quai de la Loire. Bixa may recognise this building and you are thereabouts

Thanks, Mossie. I was finally getting around to the venue, but since I just got back from my trip yesterday, I had not dragged myself over there yet.
For those who attended our fabulous get-together at the Serpentine in London last year, the menu and the prices are quite similar -- mostly world fusion food so you don't have to worry about that nasty French stuff with odd sauces and strange animal parts.
Do we agree that lunch is the best time for us?

Re: venue & time ~ I'm happy with whatever makes everyone else happy. My only concern is that the weather cooperates so I can wear my chosen garment that day -- the one I look really nice in. The computer claims that it will be 20C/68F and cloudy that day in Paris.
