I will be happy to have lunch there. I picked on this place because it is in a similar situation to the Serpentine do. Also of course, being selfish, I shall be close by, the hotel I use is within 50 yards of Laumiere metro. Looking forward to a good turnout.
Bixa, that weather forecast is simply based on an average of the last how many years. Reliable forecasts for this part of the world are not normally possible more than about 3 days ahead, but you will look good whatever the weather throws at us and whatever you decide to wear.

Today was very warm and muggy -- not normal May weather at all. We will survive no matter what happens.

1. Looks great & it's not very far from where I'm staying.
2. Is that a functioning swing bridge & can we see it operating?
3. Do you suppose we could bring in our own bottle(s) of wine, as at the Serpentine?
4. You appear to be volunteering Anyporters as lifeguards for canal swimmers. Is that correct?

Very pleased you have been to have a look at at the place and find it suitable, I was worried that I had jumped in. I will aim to be there before 12.30 and sit outside if it is fine.
The bridge is the Pont Levant, or lifting bridge. A section of rue de Crimee is lifted by steel hawsers which run over the pair of wheels, there is another pair the other side of the canal, road traffic is controlled by lights and speakers and there are lit warning signs. There is a pedestrian footbridge which gets busy when the bridge is up because interested spectators can watch the boats pass underneath them, as well as seeing the operation of the bridge. If we are lucky that could happen while we are there, the Canauxrama boats go under it and there is other occasional traffic.

Here is the general layout. Paname is at the top right at the end of the basin, with the fancy hotels on the other side. One can then make out the bridge between them, if fact both bridges because the road bridge is the flat section whilst the pedestrian bridge is the arch which stands close to it, this shot makes them appear as one structure. All as clear as mud, but you will know what I mean as soon as you see the place. Hoping to see some fresh faces in a couple of weeks time !

Are you already there Mossie?? You really seem to have a jump start on the history of the surroundings. I want to be like you when I grow up Mossie.

Thanks for the orientation, Mossie. Looking forward to seeing the place & of course to seeing you and the others. To everyone ~ The get-together takes place two weeks from tomorrow (or today, depending on where you are in the world) on June 19. If you're still mulling the possibility of making it, check airfares. Sometimes last minute ones are a real deal. If you have a friendly travel agent, enlist his/her aid. Something might pop up. Thus far, it looks as though I may be Scarlett at the barbecue. Are you other women going to let that happen?

Casi, that picture dates from my last visit this April, I always stay in this area so quite often visit the Bassin.
And you don't want to be a grumpy old man like me when you grow up. Don't grow up, is the best advice I can give.

Don't grow up, is the best advice I can give. But, I do so love your sense of adventure and your garden also reflects not a grumpy old man, more of a sense of a relaxed laissez faire state of mind. Bixa, if you show as dressed in your avatar, which, by the way, I love !! ( I get it!), you will attract more attention beyond any Scarlett moment.

Hello
I am ok for a lunch on 19 esp if I can then see Mossie, we have to redo the world and discuss Mers El Kebir ;-) Easy for me since it is close to my office.
So ok for me, please finalize the invitation in terms of date, time, place and I'll be there !

I would love to be there but as I am currently having a tussle with Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs I need to keep a close eye on my wallet.

Does she know you're mocking her background on a public forum? Just asking out of curiosity, of course.

I am just feeling really sorry for the people missing out on this incredible event. There might even be a sensational cruise on the Canal Saint Martin after lunch.

I wish you all a merry, joyful, fun filled gathering!
(So wished that I could have attended! Maybe next year in Berlin! Seriously considering a holiday arriving in Berlin and departing from Frankfurt for mid September 2019!)

That would be lovely, mich! By the way, have you seen the story of the "Spiderman" who scaled several storeys of a building near K2's house and saved a little boy, and won legal status and training to be a Parisian firefighter? Under Paris on the Europe board. To share with husband!

Hello Lagatta! Yes we did see the news coverage of the man who scaled the building and saved the child, it was amazing and brave! I hope he accepts the training and job opportunity with the fire service as he certainly has shown he has good instincts.

Hello Bixa! Well although it will be 6:00 a.m. here at the time of your gathering, perhaps I could get away with having a Mimosa at that time of the morning to feel a little bit apart of your celebration!
Cheers!

A creative solution! *admire* There might even be a sensational cruise on the Canal Saint Martin after lunch. I'll be there. Won't stay long because I'll be in an important meeting (arumpf. But so thinks my boss) so I'll have to escape early.

Humph. A meeting more important than meeting your other anyporters?! I don't think so! Also, as I recall, you were the one who set the date for this get-together.
Maybe we should all discuss the start time so you can be with us longer.

Sorry I won't be there... you are all intrepid adventurers and I'm a bit of a terrified squirrel. I do have excuses that include big family get togethers( but also know that I'm a complete wimp when it comes to travel....especially on my own) I hope that you have a spiffing time and post lots of pictures
