Well, at least that's what they call it. For $1 each way you can ride Angel's Flight, a funicular that dates back to 1901, 298 feet in downtown L.A. It usually works, but it has been known to have mechanical difficulties, such as in 2001 when a tourist was killed riding it. Chances are you'll make it safely. Here's a little write-up I did.

I moved to Los Angeles in 1969, the same year that Angels Flight closed "forever" because they were going to build something else on the site. Since it wasn't reassembled at its new location until 1996 and I left Los Angeles in 1973, I never got to see it. It was always something that only the old timers talked about...
