Two evenings ago my cat Pompeii, who is an adolescent, brought me a snake. It was a Louisiana brown marsh snake, indigenous to our area.
We knew that we had them in our jungle garden but, hadn't seen any in awhile.
It too was an adolescent, about a foot long and 1/2 inch in diameter.
We discovered them many, many years ago and always welcomed their presence as they consume a lot of pestilence.
Although bummed out that Pompeii had killed one it did reassure us that they are still a presence.
Sometimes I encounter a little cluster of their eggs when I'm planting something. Just below the soil line there is a cluster of white small eggs that resemble Tic Tac candy mints. I'm always careful to cover them back up.
