You two must have loved the peacefulness after all the people in the pre-school opening frenzy, Amboseli.
That 10% doesn't sound like much, but your pictures show what a tiring climb it would be.
More lovely photos! The pink wildflowers are a delight, especially in that setting. In one of the pictures, it certainly looks as though there is a great deal of horsetail (Equisetum) growing in the foreground, indicating a good deal of moisture. Quite a contrast to being up on the sand mountain.
Thanks for the answers on the dune, everyone. And thanks for that link in #27, Kerouac -- it's really great to see your report & Amboseli's side-by-side, especially as they're almost exactly four years apart.
Looking forward to you pedaling out more pictures of this great trip, Amboseli!
We also daytripped to Bordeaux which was only a good hours drive away (not taking into account the traffic jams). Bordeaux has everything every big city has: pretty buildings, a historic city center that is on UNESCO’s World Heritage List since 2007, squares and parks, expensive shops and - how could it not - countless wine shops and bars. A nice city to spend a day in. I didn’t feel well that day so we limited ourselves to the 5.3 km city walk that I found on the www.

Le Mirroir d'Eau in front of Palais de la Bourse ... seeking some refreshment

Le Bistrot du Gabriel on Place de la Bourse
Browsing the quartier around (and) Église-Notre Dame and Cour Mably
And of course we enjoyed the beautiful Atlantic beaches and the great weather. The beaches are very much like the ones in Belgium and the Netherlands but the weather is so much nicer in the south. Warm and windy. I like it.
After stocking up on foie gras products for my husband, and wine for both of us, it was time to leave our lovely hotel (Les Vagues in Biscarrosse-Plage) and this beautiful area of France that was totally new to us. We'll be back for more cycling!
A very good tour of Bordeaux, nice to see you dabbling your toes in the water feature. Although you didn't attempt to emulate the 3 Graces, or did you??
Man is not lost, only temporarily uncertain of his position
Magnificent views of all the beach places, and I am not even a person who is a great fan of the seaside. But I always went to go there sooner or later, because a change of scenery is essential from time to time. I have vague plans to return to that same part of France before long.
Really enjoyable report - so many contrasts within - I guess that makes for a great holiday indeed. The Landes is stunning - yes bjd can quite understand. Glorious.

So glad you bounced this thread back up, Lugg, as I see I failed to say how much I enjoyed those expansive beach shots that perfectly capture that special light of sand and water.
