Do we have a Good News thread...if so I apologise. I've had some good news today. My sister had a bad reaction to chemotherapy (treatment for breast cancer) 10 days ago and was rushed into hospital with septicaemia. We were terrified as she was very poorly. But...she turned a corner yesterday and is sitting up in bed, managed to eat today 😁...the medical team say that she should be well enough to go home by the end of the week. We are all SO relieved. 😁😁😁

Excellent news, Cheery, although that must have been extremely scary for everyone. Will your sister's treatment be changed now?

Excellent news, Cheery, although that must have been extremely scary for everyone. Will your sister's treatment be changed now? Presumably so...one of the chemotherapy drugs that my sister has to take is pretty toxic and wipes out the immune system temporarily. My sister is obviously very sensitive to the drug so they will tweak her next dose. I spent the afternoon with her and she's pretty much back to herself. I may treat myself to a celebratory glass of wine this evening.

I'm glad they are changing the dosage. That is one of those cases where the cure is almost as bad as the disease. So glad she is doing better.

I think our age group has not yet adjusted to the fact that many of the conditions have become curable these days (thank god). Whenever we hear the "C" word, it fills us with despair. I hope that newer generations will have this reaction less and less because the way we look at sick people has a major influence on their recovery.

The 'C' word... I was seeing a book on a table recently. I could read 'cance'... I thought 'oh... shoot, 'Cancer'. It turned out it was 'Vacances'...
My problem with cancer is that the ones I witnessed were costly in lives... My grandmother (aged 51) my son (12) my wife's cousin (51) a good friend (49) so for me I can't really think cancer is curable. Yet I know a lot are now much better cured than before.
But I can rejoyce when I see/read remisssion or complete recoveries. (a young lady who was same age as my son regularly posts on FB and I am so glad to see her living such a nice life - I hardly associate her with Robin anymore, I'm just happy for her.

Probably because the disease is so ubiquitous in many different forms and names, there are so many different organisations raising funds for research. Also, as it is so common, the drug companies have a potential to make a motzer if they can come up with a "silver bullet" drug. I pity the people who have a rare disease where it is not financially viable to research it or develop treatment.

Questa, I have a neighbour in my co-op who has such a rare "orphan disease". The progression seems similar to MS but it is a different condition.

I got a nice surprise today when the gallery that sells my dolls sent out a fb post featuring my latest one. I'm a bit anxious about the price (they only take a small fee so I do quite well out of the sales) but they're the experts

Each one of your fabulous one-of-a-kind creations that sells ups the price of the subsequent one, and rightfully so. The gallery knows what it's doing!

Big sis saw her consultant yesterday and has been told that she is in remission. He doesn't need to see her until April. So altho her cancer is not cured, its quiescent atm. Other sister is quite well, second chemo went off without a hitch.
