I told everyone that if they ever took a picture of a cactus, they had to send it to me.

What a great set of photos. I like the fact that they are in random order. Among my favourites are the couple looking at the Botero nudes, the cat in the green and blue frame, the fruit sellers' carts.

Amazing overflowing cornucopia of sights. If only you could provide the sounds and the aromas at the same time...

".....my favourites are the couple looking at the Botero nudes....." Me and Mrs M. "If only you could provide the sounds and the aromas at the same time..." That'll be in Windows 11. "Get those people signed up for Anyport." It's the same as that none of them are 'Friends' on Facebook for me. I like a certain amount of separation. "I thought you were going to say that they were better than his own photos." Considering there was some expensive camera gear being carried around I'm not surprised, as opposed to my sixty euro point and shoot.
Now I've looked back through I also like the randomness. It doesn't fit with most reports but just at the end here I think it works well enough.

Nearly all your friends' photos are super, mark. Get those people signed up for Anyport. Indeed! Now I've looked back through I also like the randomness. It doesn't fit with most reports but just at the end here I think it works well enough. I agree, since we already had ample orientation through your photos and commentary. There are a few that might benefit from a caption, but overall fun and rich viewing experience. Thank you! Any idea what those gray-green sort of swirled plants(?) on this page are -- some kind of fungus? I adore the brightly-colored cabins. Also loved seeing all the landscapes again, particularly the dramatic desert. This page adds a few great looks at city life that expand nicely on what we saw before. Ditto the pictures of prepared food. A couple of random things I noticed -- a completely different word for corn than the Mexican word. And one of the ladies standing next to a food stand is wearing a Oaxacan blouse.

I know which plants you mean Bixa, but no idea what they might be. The cabins were where we stayed at the Tatacoa Desert and even though they looked good, that's all they were, good looking. The inside was a bit rough, hot and uncomfortable. Most had shared toilets, which didn't go down well. The woman with the blouse, I would have no doubt at all that she was from your neck of the woods, I was told by a friend who lives in Bogota that a lot of the street sellers are not local and from the accents, not Colombian either.

prison for women that runs a restaurant a Do they do "Porridge" there? Mark, you have a wonderful eye for touching on the essence of a place, from carved deserts to colourful people and surprizes like the cats and parrot. Wonderful. Kerouac2 Could you see the similarity with Macau? The façade of the old church, arched cloisters and buildings fronting the main square with their uniformity. Were the Portuguese in Colombia?

The Portuguese were in Colombia only as agents to sell slaves as Spain didn't have a slave empire in Africa - unlike the Dutch, British, Portuguese and French, who did. They all sold slaves in Colombia. They don't do porridge, they do gachas de avena.
Mich, thanks.
Mossie, I'm glad you were able to get out two words though.

By the way, 6th photo up from the bottom, two men and a van - guess, when the van started making very bad noises, who told the driver what the problem was and made him scrabble underneath whilst he waggled the wheel to show him the anti-roll bar bushes were knackered?

I don't know. Who that might have been?
Most of the photos are still excellent, but I will exclude that pile of hats in reply #65.
