Oh for the crisp, clear air of the mountains and valleys of the Himalayas...WRONG!.. Nepal and Kathmandu in particular, has the dirtiest air I have seen. The rains start around May and the monsoon clears the air of all the dust and pollution that has drifted up into the mountains from the vast plains of India. From October to January the air is clear enough to take photos without the brown smudges blotting out the valleys, but from March onward it is a case of wearing face masks, using filters and settling for a thick brown haze obscuring the views. Global warming is changing the cycle of the monsoons, glaciers are melting. I just feel like there's no way back.
