Yes, I really like that park too. It has also always been possible to walk and sit on the lawns. I know that area is the poshest part of the 19th, but still, it is most surprising that it is one of the most expensive in Paris!

You certainly had nicer weather today than we did. (A few drops of rain, clouds and wind.) I have been in Buttes-Chaumont too, although it's not an area of Paris I ever spent much time in.

I spent a few weeks there one year between two events I was working at. I really like the area. I was up above rue des Pyrénées. Not right next to the park, but a pleasant walk. I was between there and Père Lachaise.

Many thanks for refreshing my memories of Buttes Chaumont, I always tell people that it is the best park in Paris. I like to think also that the vast majority of the people enjoying it are Parisians, because it is off the well beaten tourist track. Go on a quiet weekday and it will be almost deserted, except for the oldies exercising their little dogs or young children. The greatest danger is to be run down by joggers, which often include a squad of Pompiers.
And how I would love to have an upper apartment on rue Botzaris.

A beautiful park and a wonderful place to enjoy a spring day. The bridge, waterfalls and views are wonderful.
(I think I am going to have to rethink what clothes I have set aside to pack!)

(I think I am going to have to rethink what clothes I have set aside to pack!) That might be unwise, mich. We are set for two more days of this warm weather and then we should go back to "normal" temperatures.

Yes, I'd never go to Paris without a jacket and a pullover. Parisian weather is extremely changeable, even within a single day.
And of course I'd note that all these Parisiens et Parisiennes are dressed like people in any other Western city (and in many non-Western cities). The only person in any of those photos who corresponds to the mythical Parisienne is the elderly lady in her leather jacket, smart trousers and heels.

*standing applause* This is absolutely beautiful, Kerouac! I will always treasure experiencing The Buttes Chaumont in an otherworldly misting rain, but this spectacular Spring spread adds a whole other aspect to it. The scene of happy people sprawled on the grass with those fabulous pink tulips in the foreground just knocks me out. Thanks for taking us to the park!

I love that park and the very "ordinary" areas around it. Yes, the smart flats that overlook that park are a wealthier area, but nothing like their counterparts farther west. I have a professor friend who lives in that area. Obviously not a poor or lower-middle-class person, but light years away from the super-wealthy. That is also an area where there are many kosher grocieries (or counters in small supermarkets) but also many halal ones. And Belleville has a lot of Asian groceries and restaurants. La rue des Pyrénées is also very treed.

While the only famous site on view from the Temple is Sacre Coeur, it is an excellent place for getting sunset shots

Fantastic photo. And it is unfortunately becoming rarer and rarer to find days without pollution.

I love that park, and feel at home there. Has La Villette become a bit greener? It was a boon to its surrounding neighbourhoods, but a bit of a blank canvas when I last picnicked there with friends. I know that it is also for events such as concerts and films, but I do hope that there are a few more trees now. One of my friends lives halfway between the two parks.

Thanks for reminding me of this super park. The video made me laugh, I have never seen such rapid joggers, not even the pompiers.

Such a lovely, lovely park and you really do it justice, Kerouac. The video just captures >park< in all the ways that people use and enjoy it. I love the effects on the video that capture the timelessness of happy people in nature.

No, I didn't, though there are rats everywhere in cities. And I won't send you Livia, as she is too small to be a ratter, though definitely a mouser.

Ha ~ made me look! If I registered it the first time, I probably figured it was a dear little Disney squirrel or chipmunk.

Perhaps I'm underestimating Livia, an ace mouser. But in a neighbourhood nearby where there is a lot of food processing and production, I really have seen rats at least her size. And much longer tails than hers.

In recent weeks I have seen an enormous number of dead rats while taking buses. Fat and huge (and obviously slow since they were run over during the night). I would not want to confront any of them. The rat at the beginning of my video is sleek and fast, not at all the same.

Yes you would, I always say that it is the best park in Paris. A great credit to its creators considering that it was a quarry which became an awful rubbish dump and knackers yard and was used for the disposal of unwanted bodies from the nearby city gallows complex.

Just seen all this thread for the first time. It looks a lovely place - there is always something that draws me to city parks - I think it is that there is always such life in them. Great video - looks like you had fun with the editing. As an aside; it amused me to see that one of the picnic ingredients was made close to where I live in Herefordshire. ( Photo just under where you explain that you like to inspect the picnics) www.tyrrellscrisps.co.uk/the-farm/
