Even though I believe that, surprises are always possible. What happened in France last time, even though it was not ideal, showed that voters can rebel against the traditional parties. Obviously, this is not likely in countries that do not have a runoff election system.
I did see in the more serious part of the interview by Jimmy Fallon that Buttigieg says that he will do away with the electoral college. I wonder if all of the other Democrats promise that. It seems to me that it could have been done long ago if more people were interested.
Buttigieg and I have roughly equal chances of doing away with the Electoral College. It would require a Constitutional Convention, which is a can of worms nobody with their head on straight wants to open. Mayor Pete is another attractive, highly credentialed "blank screen" with little policy substance and no realistic plan. At least not one he can articulate in English. Maybe he could in Norwegian though.
The future of the Democrats is in blank screens. It will be like at the fun fair where you pull on a string and there is no way of knowing what will come up except that it is never the good prize but some tiny shitty trinket. People need to understand that.
