Makes quite a change on recent years, now you will soon have to go back to do Galeries Lafayette. Thanks for this first sight.

I always love these annual threads so its a real pleasure to see this years. I have to agree though with Huckle re less and less to do with Xmas. The turkeys did make me smile though.

With half of the customers coming from Asia and the Middle East, I'm quite sure they have decided to just do secular holiday windows these days. Galeries Lafayette will have its Christmas tree as always, but as we all know, Christmas trees predate Christianity and hark back to pagan times.

As do Yule logs and many other features and traditions.
Though it's odd: I'm not remotely religious but really like the crèche with its image of humility and letting animals other than humans play a part. I've seen more than one local kitty shelter in the crèche at Nostra Signora della Difesa (local Italian-language parish).

Those windows are really something. Do they appeal to little kids, which is what I always thought was the point of Christmas windows, or to high-end shoppers? I was glad to see your excellent video, especially because it included a human. That's when I realized that the animated figures are quite large. I do adore the overhead display. What is that bit of music at the very end of the video?

Every morning a human has to intervene to fix anything that is not working correctly. I was amused to finally catch one at work.
There are little platforms for the smaller children to use to see the windows. I don't think they notice the names of the sponsors or the products that are being promoted. Even though most Parisians are well aware of the Illy coffee brand (and there are more and more places called Illy Caffè in Paris), probably most of the provincial French who visit have never even heard of the brand. You even have to be a bit sharp to notice that the elephant (could have been a bull for the same symbolism) is in a display of fine china.

What is that bit of music at the very end of the video? It is actually all the same piece of music. I am particularly attracted to that French composer (Usmar) because he puts no restrictions on using his music on YouTube. Maybe I'll use another piece of his stuff when I make the Galeries Lafayette video. I have had to do too many videos over again when I receive the awful message "Your video is blocked everywhere in the world because of the music rights."

Well, the music works perfectly with the video! And speaking of working, the theme that works best for me is the high fashion one, with the haughty squirrels. It's amusing & perhaps a bit of social commentary as well.

Okay, this time I will start with the Galeries Lafayette video and move on to the still pictures from there...

Well, very interesting decorating choices!
I quite enjoyed both windows but the Galeries Lafayette was my favorite. Although I am perplexed about the syringes? The blooms that opened and closed are stunning. Also thought on the commercial side, the usage of the honeycomb to highlight products was a great idea while I also enjoyed how the honeycomb was used throughout the concept for instance, on the wings of the queen.
The toy park was delightful as well.
The turkeys stuffing themselves into pots and stoves was an interesting choice!
Thank you for the videos, they bring everything to life joyfully.

Lovely photos K2. I like the bees / bee hive scenes very much although like Mich don't understand the syringe use? Is this about raising awareness of the threats they face or something else ? My favourite images though are of the illuminations in the streets, very pretty.
Barbie - 60 years ? crikey; where have the years gone?

I don't understand the syringes either, and I imagine they are getting a lot of questions about that. The only thing that I have been able to come up with is the use of syringes in artificial pollination. But surely bees have no need for that.

Paris is ahead as usual. I'm in Bayonne at the moment and they are still setting up the Christmas market -- those ubiguitous little wooden houses selling the same stuff everywhere, plus a ferris wheel and another thing that looks like a big Christmas tree but with some seats attached that I suppose will go up and around.

Sorry to be so brief in the previous post, I was just about to gush when something came onto the TV that i wanted to watch (Elton John being interviewed by Graham Norton...fab) So where was I? Oh yes...did you use your new camera? Gorgeous night time images ...you've really captured the warmth and excitement. The illuminated trees seem to scream PARIS they're so stylish! The toys look great too...I rarely go to London at this time of year but no doubt Hamley's on Oxford street are similarly splendid. I really like your pictures, you have such a good eye. Gush over. Sorry. I'll get my coat

Excellent, I agree that the birds in the opening sequences here, are the best. Do Le Bon Marche use a different company to Boul Haussmann to produce their windows?

I left the natural sound in spite of all of the traffic noise, but it should help you to understand why I generally change the soundtrack on these videos. Yup. Great fun though.

Do Le Bon Marche use a different company to Boul Haussmann to produce their windows? Yes, it is a completely different animator. I was unable to find a specific article about the subject this year, but I know it is the same person who does both Printemps and Galeries Lafayette (and another 3 or 4 places around the world).

It is such a silly pleasure for adults not accompanied by children, but I embrace it completely.
