Fab photos...Love this thread Cheery - maybe we can also post some of the " wonderful" ( wonderfully crappy) Xmas video adverts too?

But there are also some very clever and witty Xmas adverts in the UK...

She could have taken a more convincing bite out of he crisp. Or better still, shoved a handful in her gob like we all do. It's like she tries as hard as she can not to get any of it in her mouth.

If she took a bigger bite, she wouldn't fit into that dress.
I also confess that when my kids were small, I used to buy their presents in November, just to avoid going into shops in December.

Well the town centre is being prepared for the festive period. Distinctly underwhelming, altho it's difficult to tell in daylight. Christmas shopping trip this morning. The tree is up... It was cold outside so I headed for the Mall (known as The Shires) One of my favourite shops... Out of the bookshop into the mall...lots of dangly balls and trees...nothing exciting. Think they used the same as last year which is good... I was looking for xmas gifts... ooh sidetracked.... more to follow...

Looks like you weren't fighting through the crowds. Was it because it's Monday or are shops just not doing well?

It was busier than it looks, altho much quieter than at the weekend. Here it tends to be a slow burn...the shopkeepers will all start complaining soon about lack of sales until around December 20th when all hell will break loose. The shops say that they are busy with lots of customers but are not actually selling much. A lot of youngsters are waiting for Black Friday, and people do seem to like to check products out in-store before buying online!

Thank you Cheery! I do enjoy the shops so much more during the Christmas season even though I am no longer much of a consumer of Christmas decorations (perhaps the occasional box of Christmas balls to give the tree a different color scheme) but I like seeing new ideas for decorating. Being able to see what is offered in different countries is also fun.
My first Christmas shopping excursion last week ended with a strained knee! I have no idea how I did it, just not paying attention I guess, but it left me house bound for about a week. I finally got out yesterday and felt well but I was sure to walk carefully, I have too many things to get done for that to happen again any time soon!

Enjoying the latest additions to this thread. It has inspired me to go to check out my own city decorations later (if it stops pouring down that is)

Another Paris shopping mall... no sign of actual "Christmas" of course, just "holiday season."

So a few Xmas pics from Hereford city. These are all in the “old “ central part of the city, which is a mainly pedestrianised square and the streets leading off . I will post some from the new part, which was built on the site of the old cattle market , at some later point. We don’t have any shopping malls and we don’t really have any major stores – just small versions of M&S and Debenhams . Window displays from some larger chains were very disappointing overall. Eg Boots had just a big sign advertising Black Friday. How did that become part of UK Xmas life? Marks and Spencer are touting their merchandise for children based on the theme of Frozen 2. So of course as a Graunty and a Grandma in waiting I had to have a look at it inside, mostly nightwear. But Marks and Sparks basically survives on its food sales so of course that was advertised in the window too. Greggs had made a little effort too, Here are a few pics of the main square and the streets leading off it, The omnipresent golden arches, The Xmas tree in the main square encourages exploration of the many independent shops, As ever eager to please … here are a few of the independent shops and their window displays Understated statement from a barber shop And from an up market women’s clothes’ shop and an artisan jeweller, To give you a flavour of this part of Hereford, let’s wander down the streets and have a look around, This part of the city leads to the cathedral – no need for any extra lighting here so far, ?? And yes I discovered that the cathedral ( at least currently) laughs in the face of any Xmas type of decoration and instead rests on its laurels, The rain may have been an absolute pain but it helped me to capture these reflections, Anyway walking back up to the square along Broad street, past our very small library and a hotel that had once been very grand , then fallen on hard times recently given a new lease of life by local investors. Final stop for now - I made my way to the Hereford Bull, a statue next to the Old House which has been given its own festive make over with a light show playing around it. Unexpectedly I passed a helicopter, I wonder if any lucky person will be getting one of these in their stocking this year ?

Fabulous pictures lugg... you live in a very beautiful area. The decs are very tasteful too (Leicester city council tends to go for gaudy ) The Paris mall decorations are lovely too Kerouac. I accompanied my son to a hospital appointment yesterday, passing through town on our way home after dark we saw the city decorations lit up. Wish I'd taken my camera! However on 10th December I'm meeting the 'Blood Bank Survivors Guild' (retired ex colleagues) for our traditional hot chocolate followed by a wander around the city centre so I shall take photos then

Those pictures are lovely, lugg, and I agree with Cheery that the decorations are very tasteful. Holiday streets always look so much better in the rain at night.

Nice set of pics Lugg, the wet streets certainly help night time shots like those. Looks a typical cathedral city, and a nice mix of chain shops and local.

Love the latest photos. As others have noted, the rainy streets add a pleasant glow to the night colors. Well pleasant at least for me watching in a warm, dry house. It all looks quite correct to my eye.

Beautifully reflective in several senses of the word. Lugg, I could easily imagine a small group of carol singers in your scenes.
