After days of not seeing anything on the list, I could have clicked for an appointment in the 17th arrondissement at 12:00. But I am waiting for two deliveries today so I can't go out.

Let’s hope it’s the real thing. Any idea which vaccine you’ll be offered. Hopefully not the Chinese one. Were quite in the dark about which vaccine since they sold all the astra-zeneca and have withdrawn the J&J one. Probably is the Chinese one..... When I find out we will decide whether or not we want to take a chance. My cousin is avid that she wont be vaccinated with J&J until they sort the clotting thing our. I'm not that phased by that setback in the vaccine. My pharmacist told me today that he has had Covid and when they gave him a shot ( of what I could not quite catch what he said) except that they injected him with anti-coagulation stuff at the same time.

As the only appointment I could get in Germany didn't pan out because of another unmissable appointment (and yes, I realise how important a vaccination one is but the other I had been waiting for, for six months at least), I'm looking at two ways to get another one. Neither is forthcoming at the moment but I have hope. It will mean another flight back to Germany. The problem is there are categories of people and normally I would be in a low(er) category, but with a bit of wrangling I could fit in the 2nd most important one.

Maybe I shouldn't complain after reading the problems some of you are having with getting vaccinated.
Be that as it may, the state where I live has, as always, turned something simple into a mess -- in this instance, making the second round of shots into an even bigger asinine & unorganized fuckup than the last time. WHY are they so fussily incapable of a making a simple plan and then getting ALL the information out to ALL the people? Based on the date I had the first shot, my scheduled day for the second one was supposed to be today. Then I got word -- from a friend who heard it from the friend of a friend -- that you had to go the day before to "register". So I duly trudged up there to discovered hundreds of people and tons of confusion. I got my name on a list for "block 29" -- a handwritten list generated by a member of the crowd. Then I go back today & will supposedly register & be given a number along with everyone in all the other blocks. THEN I go back on Saturday to get the shot. The hateful assholes have turned a one-day process into three days of standing in line in the sun. I hate and despise them.
Keep in mind, too, that these are the shots for the over-60 age group -- those of us who are supposedly fragile and more at risk.
The supposed time for my block to register is 1 pm. That time is surely as arbitrary and ad hoc as all the other bullshit I was told yesterday. Thus, as soon as I finish eating the grapefruit which might be my last meal, I'm heading up the hill to get there eleven-ish.

oh Lord don't get me started on the vaccine rollout in California. I am disheartened to read of similar accounts by Any Porters world wide. It took me on 3 devices refreshing constantly to hunt for an appointment for my autistic son. While the eligibility has expanded in California there is still a vaccine shortage. We are falling between federal and state rollout. I did get an appointment after about a week.

I decided to call back a bit before 5 pm today since I hadn't heard anything (no surprise!). Just before, I checked the general website and there were 4 slots each on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday starting at 6pm. I tried to get an appointment online and was told "no spots available".
So I called, explained to the secretary, she checked and said, "Oh yes, I have your name. Do you have any health issues?". When I said no, she said she would call me next week. At least I don't have to go and stand in a large crowd waiting to register. It's lucky too that I don't worry about double masking and sterilizing things.

And now Pfizer is saying that a 3rd shot will be required in 5 or 6 months and then an annual booster after that. Let's not forget that it is by far the most expensive vaccine, so even if we don't pay out of our pockets, it will end up on our taxes.
For a bit of cheer, here is an all too rare happy ending in England.

Well as advised we re-registered for a vaccine shot after 4pm. It went exactly as before and at no time did the questionnaire say that we had already applied and been accepted! That makes me think that the first application was a dummy run by the Health department/government. At any rate it has given us the exact same message that we will be advised where and when to appear for the jab.

Appalling to read about all the cluster f**ks around the globe.
Here, they are begging people to come and get their shots. Multiple locations and little waiting time. Little to no red tape involved.

Well, to quote Mary Martin in Peter Pan ~ I can fly! I can fly! I can fly! That is of course if I am willing to wait two weeks, then stay masked for the time it would take to get to where I want to go. But the important thing is that I now have both the first & second shots. I want the airlines to start having flights exclusively for the vaccinated -- no masks and with booze & snacks showered upon us.

Congratulations, Bixa! A real milestone and, I’m sure, a relief!
When you do fly again, you will thank all your lucky gods you’ve been vaccinated, and have waited before venturing out into the hell of airports and sardines can-like airplanes.

Thanks so much, ladies! Htmb, you had a round trip domestic flight recently, I believe. Also, from what you said, it sounds as though you swaddled to the eyebrows with masks, etc. Was there any stage of the journey where you felt you could take the mask off & just breathe normally? I envision myself outside, unhappily breathing second-hand smoke as the only way to get a mask-free moment.

Short answer is no. Never. I didn’t eat on the planes, and when I drank liquids I just eased my mask up, took a good sip, then lowered my mask back into place. I was glad for the mask, and took some comfort in being well past my vaccine dates. I wore my mask for at least 12 hours straight. On the trip west, it felt weird, but on the way home I almost forgot about it.
Traveling in mid-March wasn't so bad. Not too many people and plenty of social distancing. However, three weeks later it was a completely different scene since so many more people had decided to fly and Delta was scrambling to find pilots whose training was up to date. There was definitely limited distancing on the packed planes.
One thing I was pleased about was the clean appearance and smell of the airplane interiors (Delta), everything looked spotlessly clean, including the little handles on the window shades. Also, everyone I saw kept their masks on properly during my flights, and Delta was very strict about the rule.

Running a low grade fever and having less energy was a common experience in my family among those of us who had the Moderna vaccine, but we all felt back to normal 48 hours after receiving the vaccine. Those who had Pfizer seemed to have an easier time of it. We all felt like it was evidence our vaccines were working. Hope you don’t suffer too much, Lagatta. Tylenol, lots of fluids, and rest were what helped us ease our symptoms.

I was told that those who get a reaction to the first shot of Pfizer and Moderna (mRNA vaccines) have robust immune systems (often younger folks). Many of us older people have a stronger reaction to shot two, as the first shot woke up our immune systems.
My sister who got Pfizer had swollen lymph nodes in her armpits after shot 2. I got Moderna and was only a little sore armed after both shots and felt a bit punky after shot 2 while Mr. Kimby went down for a long nap.
I hear there is 5x as much of the mRNA in the Moderna as in the Pfizer per dose.

Thank you so much for all that inside information Kimby. It helps those of us who at this time do not know what vaccine we are going to be offered.

Reactions seem to vary a great deal, even among those receiving the same vaccine. My arm got quite sore a few hours after the shot, but I had no other symptoms. A friend said she & her two next door neighbors had sore arms and were also quite tired and sleepy later. Another friend who got her first Pfizer here got her second one in California & had flu-like symptoms afterward.

From time to time I look at the Worldometer site about covid. I notice that for France, the cases "that have an outcome", ie, people hospitalized I guess, the death rate used to be 25%. Mild cases were always at least 99%, with "serious or critical" about 1%. I don't know whether it's because there are younger people getting sick now, but the serious or critical are down to 0.5%, and the death rate is now 2%.

An all-out approach to a specific problem ~ The Ñuu Ayava collective, in collaboration with the Young Indigenous Ambassadors, undertook the task of creating an Android application with content and information about COVID 19 in eight native languages and 11 variants of the state of Oaxaca.www.nvinoticias.com/nota/182197/lanzan-aplicacion-sobre-covid-en-11-lenguas-indigenas-en-oaxacaThe translation is from Google Translate. Note that I believe the rather tortuous final sentence means to say that a municipality can download the app in the appropriate language and then share the information via sound truck with the local population. Sound truck announcements are quite common in Oaxaca. {Translation}The Ñuu Ayava collective, in collaboration with the Young Indigenous Ambassadors, undertook the task of creating an Android application with content and information about COVID 19 in eight native languages and 11 variants of the state of Oaxaca.
In an interview, Ricardo Jiménez Jiménez, coordinator of the group, points out that after visiting several communities he realized that many people did not know how to take care of themselves so as not to catch COVID-19, because all the messages that are distributed are in Spanish and not in their mother tongue. He explained: “What we can find in the app is information on what to do in case of having COVID, some sanitary measures such as washing hands, covering the mouth and using gel. And you can access the audio, the translation ”.
That is why they started the project "Protect yourself in your language", which contains two more applications: Learn Mixtec language and Learn Chontal, which have already been approved by Google and added to the Play Store for dissemination.
The promoter explained that for now the materials are translated into Mixe, Chontal, Chatino, Mazatec, Mixtec, Triqui, Cuicateco and Amusgo, in addition to 11 variants, but they are already working with members of populations to reach approximately 50 variants.
Jiménez Jiménez explained that they are aware of the impediments of the digital divide due to the orography of the entity, but this application is designed so that it only requires connecting to the Internet once and downloading the information.
Finally, the group indicated that it knows that not all people have access to smartphones, for this reason they included audios in the eight languages and their variants on how to avoid becoming infected with coronavirus, so that if necessary, the municipal authority is the one who downloads the app, reproduce them in the local sound and thus reach the population that speaks one of these languages.

I finally got a call to come and get a covid vaccine: next Monday morning for the 1st, June 4th for the second. I registered a week ago. My husband will be right after me on both occasions. It's Pfizer here at this centre near our house.
The call was useful in more ways than one. She called on the landline even though I had given my cell phone number and had even taken the phone with me when I went out. It turns out that my phone is rejecting calls and text messages.

Actually, Tod, I'm rather proud of myself. I remembered that a week ago I set up a system to block unwanted phone calls -- I get weird calls from places like Cuba or Congo-Brazzaville. It rings once and then stops -- as though I will call back.
It turned out that it blocked all my calls and text messages, so I unblocked it and now the phone works again.
Maybe check the authorizations for your phone. It's usually in settings but since my phone is old, I had to do it online on my mobile phone account, under options.

If it’s important enough, they can leave a message and I can decide if I want to call them back.

I will be getting AstraZeneca. That’s good news, Kerouac! There still seems to be a lot of people here in the US who are totally against the vaccine. I had a workman come to my house today to measure a window. He was required by my local government to wear a mask while inside. Since he looked to be close to my age I asked if he’d been vaccinated (figuring he was old enough). I was going to tell him he could remove his mask. He grumbled something about having no use for the vaccine. Grumble, grumble, grumble.
