Mich, is there someone who could relieve you for a couple of hours a week. You need R and R to keep up your own capacity for caring for your husband. Best wishes for you both!

Thank you again to ALL of you. He had a rough night but we think the fever broke. Heart rate still too high, keeping track of that.
Whatagain, I took a calming pill. It helped me to rest and to be ready to help him again today, thank you. Being that your family has gone through this already, you knew the right advice to give me. I hope everyone is feeling well and that your daughter gets her shot before summer vacation so you can all enjoy yourselves.
My brother just dropped groceries off at our door, unfortunately he had to go out first thing this morning on one of the coldest days of the year! Both of our phones have been going off all morning with family and friends checking in.
Going through this, it reaffirms why we took the vaccines in the first place, to protect ourselves from the worst, to protect our loved ones and friends and to think of all who have risk factors. I was so focused on our parents, I was not thinking of my husbands risk factor, being his heart. He is always so strong and active but this tiny little virus seems to go straight to our weakest points.
Thank you Mick, Mossie, Bixa, Kerouac, htmb, bjd, whatagain and Questa, your words and kindness give me a boost.
This is a wonderful respite place in my world.

Mich, I so wish all anti-vaxxers could read & take your words to heart: ...why we took the vaccines in the first place, to protect ourselves from the worst, to protect our loved ones and friends and to think of all who have risk factors. Most friends and relatives who avoided delta but were caught with omicron, have said that even with the vaxes and the boosters, "You dont want this." That is sobering, especially in light of conversations I've had with people wherein we've mused on whether it's possibly a good thing to get a dose of omicron in case it might shore up our resistance to covid in general.

Some explanations just don’t make a difference with most of my anti vax relatives. Two had just recovered from cases of what I assume was the omicron variant when we last talked (the fact that they’d just had Covid was the only reason I spent in-person time with them). When I reported that a third relative, who was doubly-vaxed at the time, had been sick with Covid (Delta?) back in September, they just said, “See, you get it either way." I tried to understand why they were so opposed to getting the vaccines and I really do think it’s a homegrown type of cultural attitude that stems from a mistrust of the government, poor education, and the appeal of political cult leaders who know how to manipulate this type of person. These relatives of mine are good, hard-working, tax-paying people, who really do think they are living right, and don’t see how the choices they’ve made not to be vaccinated can possibly hurt anyone else. It’s a deeply in-grained attitude that stems from the way they were raised and the environment in which they live.

htmb - Everything you said is sitting on my plate as well. My relatives just don't get it, or if they secretly do, are too ashamed to now admit they have been wrong all along.
Mitch honey - Having just been through a very similar situation with our son who had a heart problem (myocarditis ) not so long ago and now recently Covid very badly, you are both on my mind. It's hard to believe your great tall strapping husband could suffer from any ailment at all! I remember the discussion we had at the dinner table in Venice when we spoke about the bell tower on San Giorgio Maggiore island with it's landmark church, and how we took the lift to the top but your husband said he would rather climb the stairs to the top even though I mentioned they did look a bit rickety and frail! I believe he said he loves to climb al kinds of structures. Get well soon Mr.Firefighter.

My wife and I shate different views about antivax. We met our neighbour, 30 years old, nice, but autist, albeit light. He told me his mother had gotten Covid despite vaccine and used it as proof vaccine is useless. I just opined, say 'sure' and changed the subject. Mh wife discussed and says he could be converted. My wife is a saint.

I agree Whatagain - With your wife. She is a medical person but I think she also immediately sees straight through a person who is not confident in what he or she believes to be true. I hope she grabs him by the collar and whispers loud and clear in his earhole.

Wow. Everyone should read this long, but fascinating and necessary article. My level of scientific knowledge is about that of the school child who mixes bicarb and vinegar to watch them fizz. Nevertheless, I was riveted by this very clear and exciting account of the making of the coronavirus vaccine. As we know ~ Skeptics have seized on the rapid development of the vaccines — among the most impressive feats of medical science in the modern era — to undermine the public’s trust in them. But the breakthroughs behind the vaccines unfolded over decades, little by little, as scientists across the world pursued research in disparate areas, never imagining their work would one day come together to tame the pandemic of the century.Seriously, find the time to read this. It is as exciting as a Crichton novel but all true and, as we now know, has a happy ending. Halting Progress and Happy Accidents: How mRNA Vaccines Were Made

I believe he said he loves to climb al kinds of structures ) Yes, your memory about his love of climing stairs in structures is absolutley correct! (What an fun evening we shared, enjoyed thinking back) He enjoys that so much that when I plan a holiday I now search for interesting churches and monuments that he can climb! I was worried when I read about your son and how serious his COVID illness was, I hope he has recovered? When Mr. M. was in the ER they did tests on him for myocarditis as they suspected that was the most likely scenario of what was happening to him due to his recent booster 3 weeks ago but the test results showed that was not the case. Once they understood the full history of his past cardiac events and procedures they performed multiple ECG's due to the supraventricula tachcardia, they even had to give him a drug to stop his heart to get him back into normal rhythm. He is feeling better today, regaining his strength, eating well and getting bored! All very good signs.

Since I met this splendid athletic man as well, I have to say that he looked invincible to me so I was already shocked when he had his cardiac problems. And yet I know that appearances mean nothing in terms of health.

My son sent an email to the family today. He said that the covid wouldn't have been a big deal if he had been able to rest, relax and drink a bit of herb tea. However, with two small children who are not in their usual routine, don't understand why they can't go to school or the park or see friends and are making a mess in the house while you are too tired to tidy up and take care of them, it's another ballgame.
At least he felt well enough to write a long email but he expects to be off work next week. He also didn't know where they caught it -- from a kid at the nanny's, from the nursery school, from work...

Those hugs and tears at the end sum up the victory of the exhaustive, dedicated and brilliant people in the combined fields who never gave up. Since I met this splendid athletic man as well, I have to say that he looked invincible to me so I was already shocked when he had his cardiac problems. And yet I know that appearances mean nothing in terms of health. Thank you Kerouac! I think he is quite splendid as well. It is true, you never know what people are coping with. We hope to be able to return to Paris soon and enjoy another get together!

Thank you htmb! He just went outside to get some fresh air, and it is fresh! -12C but I believe we need to open a few windows for a couple of minutes and let in some fresh air as well.
bjd, indeed, much more challenging coping with COVID and keeping up with the regular routine of children. Certainly would make is more difficult getting the rest needed to recover. Is this your son that lives in Canada?
We sure are experiencing how contagious omicron is, my mother-in-law, father-in-law and sister-in-law are now sick and presumed COVID positive and my other sister-in-law who works in a group home for men with traumatic brain injuries has just tested positive along with 7 of the 8 residents of the home.

Sorry I missed the news about your hubby Mich and your son Tod. I hope that everybody is on the mend. Our eldest son's in-laws have covid atm. One has asbestosis and the other one mild COPD..both in their eighties.
Our youngest has been told he needs a fourth vaccine this week or next. Rather than risk going to the vaccine centre we're trying to get our GP to administer it.

Thank you Cheery. My family is doing quite well, thank goodness we were all double vaccinated and had our boosters. My father-in-law is 91 and was sick a couple of days but is fine today. My husband and I can come out of isolation tomorrow. He is feeling so much better, just lingering sniffles and low energy but so much improved. He will be able to complete his two remaining shifts next week before his retirement.
I hope your family members are feeling better with each passing day Cheery and that your son gets his 4th shot soon. Our nursing and long term care homes are getting their 4th shots right now.

It's beginning to look as though almost every regular contributor to anyport has now been directly or had family directly affected by covid. Hoping you've had encouraging news about your son's in-laws, Cheery, and that you have quick success in securing a shot from the GP for your other son. Tod, Bjd, Htmb, Whatagain, Mich, & anyone I've missed, let's hope your loved ones are well on the mend now. ... his two remaining shifts next week before his retirement. Well, here is a ray of good news! I didn't realize he was so close to retirement, Mich. Couldn't happen at a better time!
