And nobody was vaccinated except maybe a certain Kim.

A triple vaccinated friend of mine reports that he came down with covid yesterday and is completely out of commission.

“Out of commission” for the vaccinated is more like getting the flu though, except the really old or immune-compromised. You survive. Many unvaccinated don’t. And many of those that do get “long Covid” after-effects.
I’m getting a shot every time it’s suggested. Next one (#5) will likely be a combination shot, either Moderna’s Covid/Omicron specific version, or a Covid/Influenza combo.

I talked to my neighbour yesterday. He's 87, caught covid a couple of weeks ago. Said he had a bit of fever four nights in a row and that was it. He is now fine. He didn't say whether he had the 4th dose of vaccine.

I have to schedule my 4th dose. I became eligible a few days ago (6 mpnths after the 3rd shot).

My brother and sister-in-law, in their 80s and protected by all the jabs available came back from a Danube cruise and went down with it. It has cleared but they're both feeling wiped out. No word yet on whether a fourth round of vaccinations is going to be more widely offered. My blog | My photos | My video clips | My Librivox recordings"too literate to be spam"

A friend of mine told me yesterday that her mother had COVID 2 weeks ago, she is 95. She did very well, she had flu symptoms for about a week but is feeling fine now. She was scheduled for her 2nd booster this week so my friend said she would contact the Health Unit on Monday to see when she should reschedule.
I read yesterday a report of 2 new Omicon sub-variants in South Africa. More contagious but not showing any increases in hospitilizations.
Our hospitilizations are decreasing daily and we have none in the ICU.

We are not too bad but each time we have big event... football, cricket big concert etc we get a Spike in numbers of those presenting that day, with numbers of pts in ICU and deaths given. It seems we will just have to live with it. BigPharma are good for another 50 years.

Okay, I made my appointment for my 4th injection, Thursday 10:00. It's only about 50 metres from my flat.
I now know 3 friends who have caught Covid in the past 2 weeks. They are all at least 15 years younger than me. I saw on the news a couple of days ago that most of the people who have caught Covid a second time, vaccinated or not, are between the age of 18 and 50.

I am not going to get a 4th shot. Don't see much point in doing so. Maybe if I want to go to discothèques...

All of those people dying in their hospital beds seemed to agree "I wish I had been vaccinated." Of course, they were not up to the 4th shot yet.

Fingers crossed that my sister’s wedding a week ago doesn’t become a super spreader event. I haven’t heard of any cases yet, and everyone I talked to had been vaccinated and boosted.
But of the 65 or so in attendance, only one wore a mask. The invitations stated that the event would follow Dane County Covid protocols in place at the time.
America is so over masking. Hope it doesn’t come back to bite us in the butt! Yesterday at a busy Walmart I saw only 3 shoppers wearing masks…

I never stopped masking. The inevitable return to mandatory masking when the next wave gets going will be much harder psychologically for those who threw away their masks. I've seen absolutely nothing to suggest we won't still be experiencing wave after wave of Covid and it killing significant numbers for years to come. Adapt, people. It's really that simple.

The "funny" thing is that the very people who were deriding those reluctant to mask up and be vaccinated in the first couple of waves are the exact same people who now are holding and attending events indoors and refusing to mask up when they attend. Stunning lack of self-awareness going on.

Stunning lack of self-awareness going on. Stunning ability to believe in politically mandated mask / no-mask messages. Here in Oaxaca, whenever there is some tourist-attracting main event coming up, the covid-warning traffic light miraculously goes to green.

Omicron has been a huge game changer -- so contagious and yet far less dangerous. In Europe, the majority of the mask rules have been eliminated in spite of the fact that the number of cases is 10 times higher than was acceptable in early days.
Of course, there was also a major progression of vaccination in the meantime, which has altered views about the possible risks. I would say that in Paris about 5% of the people in the street are still wearing masks and maybe 10% on public transportation. I admit that I am not wearing a mask anymore, but I keep one on hand at all times.

Mask wearing is not required in the NHS in Wales from Mondsay - I guess we will follow suit before long. I have to say I am fairly relaxed now ; I went to a packed out venue in Cardiff last night to see a concert- hardly any one was wearing a mask. Now to see what happens re Monkey Pox and of course any future variant.

here, masks are still mandatory on public transport, so most people wear them there, but not in most shops etc. - at a work meeting, recently, maybe a quarter to a third of us were wearing masks, the rest wasn't (that is, a few were wearing it at the beginning of the meeting but then took it off) ...

Local people here are still wearing masks everywhere, even in the street. Sorry, but I am simply not going to wear one in the street any more. There are signs up in indoor public places telling people that masks are mandatory. It infuriates me to see how many tourists blithely ignore them. It is simple courtesy to comply with such requests.

In the metro stations in Paris, there are constant announcements that "wearing a mask is strongly recommended" but only about 20% of the people do. I find it interesting that there is no typical mask wearer -- some are old, some are young, some look French, some are immigrants, etc.
I wore my mask cleaning out the crap in my cellar yesterday and was very pleased to find a new use for my masks. Considering how filthy I was at the end of the job and the fact that I had to throw my clothes in the wash, wearing the mask was clearly an excellent idea.

Mask wearing is still mandatory on public transport in Spain and they are quite strict about it. My flight recently from Sarajevo to Istanbul and then from there to Malaga needed a mask to be worn, but only on the plane, not in the airports. The returns flights had no rule. You didn't have to if you didn't want to.

I took the bus to Bayonne on Tuesday and returned Wednesday. Masks no longer obligatory although a couple of people had them. Not the drivers though.

My sister who is honeymooning in Northern Italy will be the beneficiary (or the victim?) of two Covid policy changes: America dropping the requirement to be tested within 24 hours of boarding your return flight to the US, and Italy dropping the mask mandate for indoor spaces as well as public transportation effective June 15
Hope they don’t bring a souvenir Covid infection home with them…

I'm traveling from the US to Italy in a couple of weeks and it now appears I won't have to present a negative Covid test result in either direction, arriving or leaving. I like the lack of inconvenience of having to get a test result within a time window that is inevitably already super busy, but I rather liked knowing everyone on our plane had recently tested negative before sharing a 10 hour flight with them.

I’ve recently flown back from Paris, and I agree. It was nice knowing everyone on the plane had tested negative for covid the day before our flight. Before I left the USA back in March, I purchased s few home monitored kits to take with me. The kind where an online person watches while you take a test and then certifies the results. My daughter and I needed to test a total of four times, and the tests were extremely convenient to have. They also ended up being cheaper than what my son and his family had to pay when they tested at a Paris pharmacy. Anyway, it’s a moot point now.
One thing I also found convenient to have with me were a few of the unmonitored test kits. I had/have a really rotten cold with a few symptoms similar to covid, and it was good to be able to take a home test just in case I might have been contagious.
