I spoke to a call centre person who didn't think it would be a problem as I wasn't feeling ill. Niece is now testing negative again.

Asian rules have not yet changed as much as European or American rules.

Yes here too. I have the impression that more people were wearing them at the supermarket yesterday.

Tested positive for COVID on Wednesday. I have had a few rough days but I am thankful for the vaccinations that have enabled me to recover at home. My husband has continued to test negative.

Oh heck, Mich! Sorry to hear that and of course hoping that you continue to feel better. Fingers crossed that your husband stays negative.

I was just reflecting over the fact that even though there have been a lot of cases of covid among us, we have all survived. Let's keep it up!

The past 6 days have been challenging but I am better and my husband is still testing negative, thoughts are that he had it last week.
For those Any Porter's that have had COVID, how many days until you began testing negative?
I had a fever 4 days ago for about 12-14 hours that also came with the worst nausea I have ever encountered in my life! What remains now is a bit of a head cold.
We missed my brother's 60th birthday celebration and my husband's retirement/Christmas party BUT I am grateful to be recovering at home. Thankful for being vaccinated and boosters.
Thank you to all for your well wishes!

That sounds really horrible, Mich, not to mention that you had to miss major fun events.
At what point did you stop thinking it was flu and start suspecting covid?

Glad to hear that you feel better, Mich.
I didn't even know I had covid at first because I didn't have any fever, just a headache and feeling really tired and no appetite. So it took me several days to get tested (not a PCR which they don't really do any more at the drugstore), just an autotest when I was already feeling better. I did another autotest about 5 or 6 days later and was negative.

Bixa it was the quickness of how unwell I felt over a few hours, it was unusual for me and also the fever. Now that I am feeling better, I am relieved I will now get to see my family and friends for Christmas and celebrate the New Year! I also got my flu shot the day before I began feeling so poorly, so I feel good that I have done everything I can to prevent getting sick.
Thank you bjd! and thank you for the information. I was still testing positive yesterday, I am hoping for a negative result soon. I guess what is important from what I have read is that I no longer have symptoms and have not had a fever in 5 days so I should not be infectious any longer. That is my concern. I will wear a mask when I go out for errands later this week.

Mich, from what I read, people with covid are most infectious in the first days of having it, even before showing any symptoms.
The doctor told me to wait at least 3 months before getting any booster shots.

Since I got my 4th shot so long ago, I will jump at the chance when a 5th shot becomes available here. I do not understand why only about 30% of older people have had 4 shots in France since they have had more than 6 months to get them.

I fell sick within 48 hours of sitting next to three German teenagers who wouldn't wear their masks on a flight from Frankfurt to Seattle. I was sick for almost precisely 3 days—so sick I only got out of bed to go to the bathroom and couldn't eat. Then, the next day I woke up as good as new, not even a hangover.
edit to add: I was told to assume I would potentially be contagious for five days after I felt better even though I almost certainly wouldn't still be.

Thanks for those two pieces of information straight from the doctor, Bjd. In all the long, bewildering onslaught of information, I did not know either of those facts.
Mich, I'm so happy you're feeling better and will be able to enjoy the much-anticipated Christmas festivities with your family.
That is a maddening way to get infected, Fumobici. I'm glad it only lasted three days, although it must have been sheer misery.

I remember reading somewhere about a month ago that the mask mandate ended on German airlines but was put back on rail travel on the same day.

Yes, there is a requirement to wear a mask on public transport, but not airlines. There is also a requirement to wear one in certain establishments, can't remember which, but I think it might be in doctor's surgeries and maybe somewhere else.

No, worse, Condor. Masks were mandatory but the FAs gave zero Fs and ignored the teenaged Petri dishes' bioterror antics. Parenthetically, Condor is the worst airline I've ever flown Transatlantic by a mile. Utter shite.

I've had a couple of opportunities to fly Condor long haul in the past years and avoided it every time preferring most other airlines. I have recently had to opportunity again and booked elsewhere.

I tested negative yesterday. I was at the 10 day mark so I was allowed to go to town and get the banking done for my dad and get a few groceries before the stores are closed for Christmas. We did wear masks.
I am feeling so much better, tired, but recovering quickly. The most unusual aspect for me was on days 6 - 8. I was having the most awful taste, even when I was not eating. It actually kept me awake one night. Everything tasted like metal which brought back the memory of when I got my second shot, for about 15 minutes afterwards I had the same taste and I was so nauseous.
Very happy that we will be able to spend Christmas with our families. Grateful.

What a relief, Mich! I was so hoping that you'd be better before the 24th. Happy Christmas!
The State Sctry of Health is again telling people to wear masks in indoor spaces. I got partway to the market before I remembered, then returned home for a mask. But when I got to the market, I was one of the very few people wearing one.

To me, it looks like masking in Paris has gone from 10% to maybe 15% in spite of similar recommendations.

My son told me Thursday that he has covid. He says there are tons of foreigners in Las Vegas for the Consumer Electronics Show. He's not devastatingly ill -- went out today & took down the Christmas lights off his house -- but has a recurring headache and what feels like a bad chest cold.

Well, yeah -- sort of. He works sound for Wynn Las Vegas, which means he was part of those setting up CES, which meant being exposed to an sudden wave of people from all over.
