You don't have to feel left out anymore because Covid-19 has now arrived in Mexico.

It doesn't help in the States that Trump cut funding to the CDC (Centre for disease control) and the National Institutes for Health. When asked about it at a press conference, he said it didn't matter. And many of the test kits that were sent out were defective.

Basically dont panic. If you have traveled in risky zone check yourself and stay home if fever cough.
Wash your hands.
I am stopping shaking hands. Or will try.

In Paris, since we lived for a month with the metro being on strike, I think we are ready if they have to close it down.
Since everybody is still wearing winter scarves, I have noticed that quite a few people are adjusting them to cover their nose and mouth. Clearly they have not had much medical training.

My understanding is that covering the mouth and nose whether with a respirator or something more improvised is far more effective at protecting the people around the mask wearer than the mask wearer themself. If people understood this, no doubt fewer people would wear them.

In Paris, since we lived for a month with the metro being on strike It would be interesting to know if the usual number of seasonal colds & flu dropped this year because of people not being crammed together on public transportation.

The number of cases in France almost doubled yesterday, now standing at 57. It will probably double or triple again this weekend. They have told us to stop kissing each other and stop shaking hands.

It's not taking long -- tonight France is already up to 100 cases. The snowball is rolling down the hill of fresh snow...

K2, you really are becoming one of the panic brigade. The population of France is about 69 million.
It's not even a snowflake yet.

Oh, I am personally not worried. I just think it's interesting. Italy has more than a thousand cases now.

France is up to 130 cases tonight. At least it didn't double again. That's good.

M. Kerouac, Are you somehow related to Mme Defarge? You seem to delight in sitting by the Guillotine with your knitting and counting the heads as they roll off

Seattle/Washington State has an outbreak, most of it is tied to a local nursing home.
A nurse friend of mine is giving me info, and basically has said this can not be contained and everyone should be prepared to get the virus eventually.

I was at the Flower & Garden Show at the Seattle Convention Center yesterday and saw no masks or other concessions to the situation and the event seemed well attended.

Here we are being exhorted to keep washing our hands.
Just been to Sainsburys, big supermarket chain and went to the Gents. Only 1 soap dispenser had any soap, the hot waters was stone cold and only one hand dryer worked.

I went to Franprix this afternoon, and it looked like they were sold out of most pasta.

Pasta because it's an easy food to stockpile for when you can't leave the house because of the plague? Yes, I saw on CNN that even in the US, there is a run on pasta in certain areas.

Moved into a temporary apartment in Bonn (Germany) yesterday and called at the supermarket today to do shop of basics. The pasta, rice, sugar, long term milk, cooking oil etc shelves were bare. This is the type of supermarket that usually has a lot of this kind of stuff on pallets - so there were many, many empty and sad looking pallets strewn about.

My local supermarket has run out of pet food. I think the fussy eating Fidos and Tinkerbells are going to learn to like 'roo meat or go hungry.

Is roo meat actually sold in supermarkets?
Should I buy a huge bag of quality kibble for Livia? Hate to think of friends with large dogs, like the wonderful Gaston, who adopted a stray kitten.

Belgium is in phase 2. We are told to wash our hands and cough in our elbow. Then hope fof not too many case. Worst case scenario is 1.7 times the number of flu infected people and 10 times the mortality + consequences. Total 850 000 infected. 50 000 dead. Basically the scenario says all hospitals would be full and the normal surgeries would be postponed plus a lot of people would be sent home because of lack of beds. Beds would be kept for children and oldies sent home. With the easy consequences to understand.
Nevertheless my employer said we cannot travel international anymore.

In France too we are supposed to wash our hands and cough into our elbows. Also avoid shaking hands and kissing on the cheek when we meet friends. Masks are only for people who are really sick.

The government has now requisitioned masks in France since too many people have been buying them for useless reasons.
