Cheery, that sounds like a very impressive and organized venture! Any idea how long it will be before residents receive their results?

I heard on the radio today that tests in France no longer need a doctor's prescription and they will be fully reimbursed by the social security system. Otherwise they cost 54€.
I saw too that at some resorts (Arcachon on the Atlantic coast), they have set up testing centres for people arriving on vacation: at the train station, near the beach. Results will be within 3 days, not as long as in Paris where they said it was 2 weeks.

Cheery, that is so modern, so civilized! Bjd, this morning I was reading about the pointlessness of testing when it takes too long to get the results. I don't have the link to where I read it, but a quick google renders lots of hits on the subject, for instance: “The average test delay is too long,” said Dr. Francis Collins, the director of the National Institutes of Health ... “Averages around the country, it’s about three days, but in some places it’s as long as a week. And that really undercuts the value of the testing, because you do the testing to find out who is carrying the virus and then quickly get them isolated so they don’t spread it around. And it is very hard to make that work when there is a long delay built in.” source

Cheery, that sounds like a very impressive and organized venture! Any idea how long it will be before residents receive their results? Leicester city and two adjoining areas have been held in a local lockdown for 4 weeks longer than the rest of England because we have had a high number of positive tests. It's presented as number of cases per 100,000 population. To be honest, we should all have been tested weeks ago and it does feel a bit like it's too little too late. The testing was carried out very efficiently by an Amy of volunteers in NHS tabards. I dont know whether the actual testing will be carried out by Public Health England or a private company. We've been told that we should hear "in the next few days"...

I hope things improve in your area soon, Cheery. Sounds awful, though there are many places here in the US that could have used a longer lockdown, to be sure.
My daughter’s results for active covid and the antibodies - samples taken 15 days ago - still have not been reported to her. It seems pointless now to have even been tested.

Needless to say that the tests were free.

Daughter was tested in New York City, and hers were free, too.

Htmb, you went on to say in a subsequent post that the testing was free. What is infuriating is that of course the "free" tests were paid for with public money. And with the test now over two weeks old & still no result delivered, it was money down the drain. It seems one more example of how the US overall was unnecessarily caught with its pants down and now scrambling inefficiently to catch up.

Yes, I agree with everything you said above, Bixa, but I was responding to Cheery’s comment about tests being "free" in her UK location. Of course the tests aren’t really free, but in this case there was no extra charge. And yes, it was a complete waste of my daughter’s time to go give samples and was certainly a waste of taxpayer resources. She hadn’t had any symptoms, but all New York City residents were being encouraged to seek testing in an effort to identify the “silent carriers". Plus, she was preparing to move across country and certainly didn’t want to contribute to the virus spread if she was infectious.

Come-on, Cheerie. Time to grab your lab coat and get in there mixing it with the molecules. If all the batches of tests are taking 15 days to get patients records, they are useless. If however the medical team have the results but no-one has had the time to share them with you, it is understandable. Most likely it is "GAITS" (Gone astray in the system) and the doctors are just as frustrated as you are.

Oh, I understood what you meant, Htmb, I was just responding with my ongoing frustration with the terrible response I see here and in the US. And your daughter was acting as a good citizen! I came here straight from reading about the woes in south Texas. This is the county where I used to live: In Cameron County, which includes the city of Brownsville, cumulative coronavirus cases climbed from 3,854 on July 12 to 7,846 on July 25, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services, climbing by about 300 per day during that two-week period. source

They wouldnt have me...I'm no longer registered Most of the testing is being done by private contractors which infuriates my ex-colleagues. If we had received the amount of funding that the government has gaily thrown at private industry we would have probably done a better job. In theory, easy to say I know.

Great news Cheery!
My nephew Matthew (the son of my sister who passed in May) was tested last Friday. A co-worker had tested positive and he had been in close proximity to him. Therefore, my brother-in-law and niece had to isolate with him as well. Matthew got an email at 2:30 a.m. this morning that his test was negative. The health unit is still making them all isolate another 7 days and I think he also will have to have a second negative test before they can all return to work.
I was at the grocery store this morning, happy to report everyone was wearing masks but there is no one at the door limiting how many people in the store at once. I think this is a mistake. It was very busy and I felt very anxious.

Great news, Cheery.
Also very good news about your nephew, Mich. I am impressed that the lab must have shot off an email as soon as it had the results.
I know what you mean about too much proximity to people in public places. As this drags on, it seems like so many are getting too casual about precautions.

Germany is soon to be offering free tests at the airports for people arriving from high risk countries. There is a mandatory 14 day quarantine for those who arrive from those countries, currently numbering 130, but if the test result is negative (24 hours or so for that result) then the person can go about as normal. The testing is not mandatory but if you don't have one, you must isolate yourself for the full 14 days anyway. That is mandatory.
So far there are testing facilities at some international airports and that offer to test anyone arriving, but if not from a high risk country, then it costs 90 euros. Moves are afoot to give free tests for any arrivals from anywhere but so as not to swamp the airport facilities, it'd be at a health centre. What some would like is for all arrivals from the risk countries to have a compulsory test but there is hesitation about enforcing this though the aim in the long run is to attempt to give free tests to all arrivals from anywhere.
In other news, Zambia is now enforcing a rule that all arrivals must have with them a medical report obtained within 14 days from their arrival stating they have had a negative test. How on earth the authorities can determine the authenticity of this report, I have no idea. Up until now the only airport open for international arrivals has been the capital, Lusaka, but they wish to open all the airports that had previously done so. Nevertheless, the country is still not accepting tourists on tourist visas. Only diplomats, residents and some categories of business visa.

Mark, I watched SKY News this morning and see there is an almighty mix up with Britons wanting to go on holiday. Holiday makers want their cake and to eat it as well. They are expecting someone/employer to re-imburse them if they stay in quarantine for two weeks upon their return to the UK, and loose that part of their pay cheque. To my mind, if you can't afford to loose the money then how the heck can you afford to go on holiday?

Yes that's right. One of their main complaints though is that the rule was sprung upon them whilst they were away or just about to go. The feeling maybe that had they known about this then they wouldn't have gone or at least had time to make some arrangements.

Thing is... I can't understand why anyone would book a holiday involving flying to another country at all during a pandemic. Just my opinion and I don't mean to criticise. I suppose some folk have booked a villa with a pool and are quite happy to self isolate somewhere sunny rather than in windswept Blighty I was quite impressed with the testing, Jeff had to retest. He rang the helpline and gave them his details, and they gave him a slot at one of the drive-through testing stations this morning. All our neighbours have tested negative, we are hoping for an end to the local lockdown, but not holding our breath.

We are constantly being told by the media that we in South Africa do not know the truth about Covid deaths. I am feeling less confidant going shopping. Today I virtually rushed down each aisle glancing at my shopping list. Yes, everyone has a mask on , they are spraying each person with antiseptic , wipes are provided to wipe down your trolley and people don't hang around to chat, but I feel relieved to jump back in my car and get home. Even if I need something for the rest of the week I'm going without. The more we stay at home getting on with little chores and gardening the happier I am.
Then you get the individual (pool maintenance man) who swears blind there is no virus and that the deaths are all a natural occurrence . Says he, with a mask dangling from one ear lobe…..

Well, just get the pool guy to jump in the pool every 30 minutes because the chlorine will disinfect him.

Yes. Get him to jump in the pool, then hold his head under until he solemnly promises to keep the damned mask on at least while he's on your property.

This would be funny if it weren't the president of the USA: "Donald Trump in his daily coronavirus briefing praises as 'very impressive' a doctor who dismissed the use of face masks, backed hydroxychloroquine and reportedly claimed that alien DNA is used in medical treatments. When asked about reports Dr Stella Immanuel believes scientists are creating a 'vaccine to make you immune from becoming religious', the US president claimed she had had success in using hydroxychloroquine before adding: 'I thought her voice was an important voice, but I know nothing about her.' On the topic of Dr Anthony Fauci's enduring popularity with the US public, he said: "So why don’t I have a high approval rating with respect – and the administration – with respect to the virus? We should have it very high ... but nobody likes me. It can only be my personality, that’s all.'"
This "doctor" is a registered medical practitioner in Texas, where her office is in a strip mall next door to her church, Firestorm Something or other (I can't find the link again).

My thoughts exactly BJD. I watched an earlier video from doctor Stella (you don't have to study to become a doc overt here ?) Who said women in their sleep can get pregnant due to witches. Called astral sex. She expkained they arent demons but succubes etc... the kind ic vocabulary i got playing dungeons and dragons. Whilst she must have watched surgeons and morons. A d the liar tweets tonight this BS.
