Florida has opened up all bars, restaurants and hotels at 100% capacity. Here in Orleans Parish they have lifted the ban on "go cups" (this is limited to restaurants only, bars and music clubs are still not open but some of the bars that had small kitchens got creative and were able to obtain a provisional restaurant license. Buy a $1.00 hot dog and drink all you want) which was ironic to begin with because Jefferson Parish had already done so and the Parish line is just minutes away from where we live. Last week when we took our cat to the vet who is in Jefferson Parish, with curbside service (they come and get your animal and one waits until they're finished and call you), the vet assistant said, "you can just go next door to the River Shack and have a beer and we'll call you if we need you or if we have any questions." With regard to Florida, my friend in Miami thinks it's a huge mistake but, I'd venture to say that she is in the very small minority of people who feel that way.

Here is the Covid-19 test kit available to all ….yes, at a price but look - you don't only have ONE test, but 25. Here is my son taking the test with his partner acting as "Nursie"( Blackadder). The test came back as 'Clear". He has been very poorly but with Antibiotics and Cortisone and he feels quite well now. He has always had a bad chest from junior school days so of course we were extremely worried. It's great to hear him sounding well.

So many of the symptoms (of all diseases, not just Covid-19) are psychosomatic that I'm sure that his condition has improved immensely.

I was interested to hear him tell me that his chest immediately cleared to the extent he could breath more easily when he ate two big garlic cloves - which he says burned like hell - and followed it with a chaser of pure freshly squeezed lemon juice in a little warm water. Oooooh! Something like that its bound to cure a multitude of ailments! He swears by it.

Fresh garlic is a wonder drug. I'm sure that it would cure a lot of people.

Hey Mr. Kerouac - some truths are said with tongue in cheek, some with a sort of mild belief, but whatever context they are mentioned, a real hidden truth and cure is found. I have never eaten raw garlic, but oh my goodness do I love it in my cooking! My son continues to eat "The Cure"!

One time I had to relocate a truck from Cairo to London. I was given a second driver, another experienced Leader, to assist as we tended to do these things virtually non-stop. It was December and quite cold everywhere. He had this thing about eating numerous jars of pickled garlic to ward off any ill health. Needless to say as we didn't want to open the cab windows as the heater was quite poor anyway, driving through Transylvania in the night was the only time I didn't complain to him about the stench.

Garlic has a wonderful odour. No sane person could ever call it a stench. (The same goes for cabbage.)

I don't like the smell of garlic, altho I happily use it often in cooking. Used as an ingredient it's fine. Garlic bread a step too far (for us)...and I don't like it as the main flavouring in stuff like coleslaw or similar.
An ex-colleague would recommend garlic and ginger tonic for absolutely every sniffle, another cure-all seemed to be cider vinegar.
Son is getting fed up now, but as he has been suffering from a bad episode with his crohns for about 2 weeks he wouldn't have been able to go out anyway. In Leicester we've been under local restrictions pretty much since March. Not allowed to mix households at all in our homes and gardens. Shops, hairdressers, gyms and similar are open now and we can meet in parks (no more than 6 people), pub gardens and outside restaurants if we also maintain social distancing. However, because infection rates are rising again with schools open and students back at out 2 big universities my menfolk are very reluctant to go anywhere at all. I can wait.

I had a mail from my son in Canada that he had felt sick and got tested for Covid. So his kids had to stay home from school, his wife from work -- waiting for results that take 3 to 5 days!

Seems to me the most common symptom of COFID-19 is anxiety, Dis-ease. Anything safe that can relieve the fear, worry or lack-of-ease is good medicine. It does not have to be a condition like we have atm, some healthy young people are anxious about enduring long days of boredom confined and away from friends and family. Others have their worksites and what may happen there as their main anxiety. Of course the over riding anxiety is of the scary infection. So whatever eases the anxiety must be worth a trial. What makes one person feel OK may have no effect on others.so be kind and don't belittle each other's "magic". Many a cure can has been obtained by placebo.

Oooooh! Something like that its bound to cure a multitude of ailments! He swears by it. Tod, it does work and it works very quickly. A gentler way to use it, though, is to thoroughly mix honey and garlic together, adding lemon juice as well, if you wish. I use a mini-food processor to get the mixture as much as possible like a syrup. This tastes far better than you might imagine, allowing you to take frequent spoonfuls of it. It's perfect for nipping a cough in the bud. Grandson and girls tested negative. Excellent news, Mick! bjd, that is maddening to have to wait so long for results. Fingers crossed for a good outcome. An ex-colleague would recommend garlic and ginger tonic for absolutely every sniffle, another cure-all seemed to be cider vinegar. Yes, wise colleague! my menfolk are very reluctant to go anywhere at all. I can wait. I so much agree! Oaxaca just went to yellow, without good cause in my opinion, as cases and deaths are still rising. I am bored, but remaining sequestered as much as possible. Questa, home remedies aren't necessarily magic nor panaceas -- garlic, for instance, is rich in sulfur compounds. Obviously we can't assume that any of those remedies are a cure for covid19, but if they are helping to ward off other illnesses, plus mean that people are generally monitoring their health, it can only be a good thing, right? Excellent & chastening video, Kerouac. It's frightening how quickly the information is becoming obsolete: www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/coronavirus-death-toll/ and the US toll is already over 5,000 more than in the video: www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

As for cabbage, smells fine at the market, cooking and in a dish (or not cooking and in a slaw) but it does sometime stink at the other end...

This is the BS that is going on in Oaxaca right now. www.rioaxaca.com/2020/10/01/ferieros-invaden-el-zocalo-de-la-capital/English version below. For clarity: Ferieros settled in the Alameda de León and the Zócalo of the City of Oaxaca. Ferieros are owners and operators of the mechanical installations -- merry-go-rounds, etc. -- commonly seen at fairs. The Alameda de León is the large area in front of the cathedral which wraps around to the side joining the Zócalo. The Zócalo is the main square. Verde Antequera is a poetic name for Oaxaca. Garden of the Constitution is the official name of the Zócalo. Oaxaca de Juárez. This Thursday morning, a group of organized Ferieros settled in the Alameda de León and the Zócalo of the City of Oaxaca. The protesters joined the sit-in that the June 14 Popular Front has been holding for two weeks to demand justice for their social leaders, accused of various crimes. The owners of amusement rides indicated that their action is to pressure the state government to provide economic support to this sector affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. According to the ferieros, COVID-19 has left them without income, and despite requesting support from the authorities to date they have not had any response, so they decided to settle in the heart of the Verde Antequera. Parallel to this, more mobile stalls began to be installed, now on the west side of the Garden of the Constitution, which also demand support and jobs be opened for them. These actions are registered in the midst of the health crisis that still persists in the entity and that so far has claimed the lives of more than 1,400 people.

It is exactly the same in France, although I suspect that there is a bit more government assistance money than in Mexico. Of course the affected professions like this wail even louder perhaps because they are sure that it will work.

Woke up to the news that Trump has contracted Covid-19. I don't wish that on anyone but I'm afraid his laxadazical attitude to mask wearing has brought this upon himself. If one is unfortunate to get Covid although you have done all the protocols and more, at least you did your best. But to come down with it because of negligence - that's something entirely different.
