So very sorry to hear that, Lugg. Being sick for that long is draining and depressing. Looks as though you cooked your head off for Christmas, which I hope means that you're better.
Yesterday my son said he was going to check my grandson for covid, since the kid just wanted to snooze on the couch with the blanket over his face. Turns out that it was just a 24 hour bug.
As far as I know, I've dodged covid so far. I've had all five of the shots & will keep getting them as offered.

It appears that the latest strain is affecting mostly young people.

Our granddaughter, great granddaughter and the other great grandparents have had covid this week. The girls all tested negative yesterday, but our son had his immunosuppressant infusion yesterday so he's extremely vulnerable (the consultant said that there's no guarantee that the vaccine will even work for him) so we couldn't risk going to Lorelei's 2nd birthday party Jeff drove me over so that I could hand over her gifts and wave through the window...but no hugs. Just blown kisses.

Oh shoot, Cheery! I'm so sorry as we all know that Lorelei's Nannasaurus was all set to give her wonderful creations to the little princess.
But more power to you for doing the prudent thing for everyone -- a gift in itself. Hope you get to see lots of pictures and that your son is feeling okay.

Aw sorry that you missed out on Lorelei's birthday celebration Cheery! Hope that all have a quick recovery. It is difficult to resume our lives with this virus lurking about, very worrisome for your son.
I was so surprised to get through Christmas, my birthday and my sister-in-law's birthday party. It was the following day of my SIL's party that I got sick. Very thankful that I was able to enjoy so many events. I took a COVID test just to make sure since I had just spent the evening with about 25 people, so I was relieved when the test showed negative. No one seemed to catch whatever I had.

Now that we all have some immunity, we may not produce enough viral matter to get a positive test result right away. It is recommended to take a 2nd test 48 hours later and a 3rd test 48 hours after that.

Assuming Americans write dates differently from us so that 10/03/23 is October 3rd, those statistics are several months old. And China is not on there at all.

I tried refreshing and got the same thing. It doesn't matter -- I don't think about covid any more.

Questions for immunized folks who have come down with COVID. What were your first symptoms? How quickly did it progress? Did you have headache or fever? Was COVID as bad as the flu or more like a cold?
Reason I ask is that on Thursday I developed a cough that was trying to dislodge crud at the back of my throat. No sore throat and I feel fine otherwise. Not congested. An occasional sneeze, but fewer than usual (I seem to sneeze a lot, always in pairs.)
Mr. Kimby thinks I should take a COVID test so that I can get Paxlovid before the 5 day deadline, but I feel fine and the cough has actually gone away. I’ll probably take the test to reassure him, but this doesn’t sound like COVID does it?

I think the symptoms are all quite variable depending on the person. I wouldn't bother with a test if you're already back to normal.

I agree with Kerouac. If you feel fine, why bother? And why take any medicine if you feel well already?
I had covid a year and a half ago. It took me about 3 days of feeling really tired and coughing to look up the symptoms and go get the test. Certainly nothing like the flu, which I haven't had for decades.

I am not sure if I have just had Covid or flu but it was awful either way. 2 weeks on and I am not great still, but now functioning. The first week was terrible; when I was awake, and able to think, I was very scared. Now just very tired, hurt everywhere still, and have the remains of the subsequent chest infection. But today I went out for an hour and had a cup of tea in the fresh air ...phew ....I will never, ever miss my boosters again.

I have always been advised that tea cures just about everything in the British Isles.

Lugg, that sounds terrible and indeed very frightening. Did you have someone there to bring you tea and water and wake you up to ask if you're okay? I so hope you're on a fast track to complete recovery. Thank you for the nudge to all of us about boosters!

I’m glad you’re back to the land of the living lugg. That didn’t sound nice at all.
Lurgy came from the 1954 episode called The Dreaded Lurgi about a highly infectious disease. A bit ahead of it’s time.

Glad that you're on the mend Lugg. Our son had a booster last month, our surgery has only given boosters to the immunocompromised so far. I guess that OH and I will get the call soon.

I'm seeing a friend next week who was sick all last week. Chances are, it was covid. Isn't it nice that it is no longer a scary disease that kills most of us?

Our neighbour told us on Friday that he had covid. He is in a choir and everyone rehearsing in a small room caught it. But a fairly mild case, just a bit of a cough.

It's reassuring to hear about these milder cases, presumably because those were people who'd been vaccinated.
Not everyone is so lucky, as Lugg learned.
People have always been less careful than they should be about exposing others during flu season. Let's hope that the horrors of this pandemic will prompt everyone to be more careful in future.

You still see masks in Paris. Maybe 0.5%. But I don't know if it is people who are paranoid or immuno-depressed or if they are people who know they are unwell and are protecting others (like the Japanese and Koreans).

One of the ladies on the tills at our supermarket still wears a mask.
