I wanted to do a bit of shopping this morning, so I headed for the supermarket.
I decided that it wasn't worth the wait. I'll try again this afternoon when it is forbidden to go out without the official form (I have the form.)
I didn't need anything at the butcher shop, thank god.
Nor the pharmacy...
Things have changed.

How come all those people suddenly have masks on? Mostly Asians from what I see. But they are supposed to be limited to health workers and sick people.

Does Paris Store also sell prepared takeaway food? I seem to recall that they did, but I was last there many years ago. In any case, the butcher is also a rôtisserie.

No, Paris store does not, but their main competitor Tang Frères does. Tang even has some special takeaway shops called Tang Gourmet.

Yes, I must have been confusing Paris Store and Tang frères.

This is hard to take in -- makes the whole sci-fi aspect of this thing all the more real. I wasn't so much struck by the masks as I was by how close people are standing in line, especially after Kerouac telling about the distance between people in the voting line.
Wonder where some of those people got the fancy masks with the red filter(?) in the front.

Currently my PC monitor is ready for the scrap heap. It has lost all the warm colours from the spectrum so that your photos are showing in navy blue, greenish yellow and dark grey. This is making the scenes of people look like it is some post apocalyptic movie. All the people are dressed in dark clothes and look like they are prisoners or similar. Down right creepy, can't wait to see it in real colours.

Honey, this is a post apocalyptic movie we're all starring in now.

Oh, I lived through the Black Summer Bushfires...two apocalyptic events (apocalypses?) in 9 months. At least I won't die of boredom.

Merci. Oui, ça craint... Mon amie Viviane se souviendra de la guerre. And obviously, while in good health she is far from young.

Did you go to that little Franprix?

No, I wrote in the previous post that I did not, even though it is the closest place. I went to Monoprix which is on my block in a different direction. One always wonders, though (even though one never had to wonder just a week or two ago), if it would have been worth it to look for eggs or toilet gel at the other place.

Gosh -- what to say?! The onslaught of news about the virus must be getting to me, as the photographs of deserted Paris & other major cities that I've seen make me almost weepy. The world has been overturned overnight.
Stark, excellent pictures, Kerouac. I note in the last one that more people are practicing distancing -- much more so than in your original set of photos. You said that you returned with fewer groceries than you would have liked. I'm assuming that's because things you wanted simply weren't there.

Yes, there are still a number of empty shelves, but even without hoarding that could happen with the new policy of only supplying stores three times a week instead of every day. There are fewer trucks and fewer warehouse workers.

Great to see - my own home town is deserted today but I only know that because of the photos on social media. I have not been and don't intend to unless absolutely essential

I have been confined to barracks following General Johnson's orders, although I have snuck out for some brief walks for exercise close to home. Was amused to note somebody taking 'social distancing' so seriously that they crossed the road on approaching me. I didn't realise I stunk that bad.

S and I went out for a long walk with the dog. Most of it was on a path through the woods, but we have to walk through an intersection with a stoplight and down a busy street for about 1/4 of a mile to get there. As we approached the light on the return I could hear some poor guy in a car hacking his brains out. Though it was possibly from pollen or a cold, I felt fortunate he was down the road, heading away from us.

This time of year I have sniffles and coughs (though NOT dry coughs) pretty much every morning. Allergies. Must remember that this is normal for me. I went out for walks in the spring sunshine and had amazingly good breathing.
Am making the usual poultry stock. Meaty bones, though perhaps tomorrow I'll add a poaching hen.

Thank you so much for those photos of the streets around your apartment. We are so stocked up I'm sure we could easily go a month or more without shopping. We did not panic buy except meat at the last three days before lockdown. I don't want to go near any supermarket and have to sanitise everything, and wear a mask. Our supermarket does deliver but even then I would spray everything with sanitiser. I can't take any chances with my husbands chest problems from time to time.

I have to go out shopping a couple of times a week as I have a small fridge with a tiny freezer compartment, as least by North American standards. I wanted something I could move to clean underneath (our floors are far from level).
Kerouac, I've definitely been there (with my Tunisian/Belgian couple friends in your hood) but alas don't remember the name of the street or market).

The market street is so clean and empty that it looks like a movie set. I am so glad you are recording all of this, Kerouac. The Paris posts on anyport are perennially popular. Let's hope that in a few months time everything will be back to normal & people will visit this thread and just shake their heads in disbelief. This is a historical record.

That covered market in Rue de l'Olive is our favourite place to shop for a Parisian picnic! The fish counter is absolutely fabulous with offerings of fresh and cooked seafood. We had to wait for them to open on one of the days we went shopping but no problem as directly opposite the entrance is a cafe/bar where we enjoyed a cold beer whilst waiting.

Panic buying is not really an issue anymore, but there are more and more delivery problems.
