I just saw images from a meeting held by the French Prime Minister with some political representatives. They were of course far away from each other around long tables but instead of the ubiquitous plastic water bottles, each person had one of those typical glass jugs and a glass.

Many things are going to change forever this year.

Had a video chat with my 2 sons this afternoon via a gimmick called Zoom which worked very well. I am not technically confident enough to host such a thing myself, but it is the way to go so that could change how meetings are run.
Many things will change once we emerge from this terrible pandemic, hopefully lessons will be learned and the world will be a better place. But some countries and industries can be seriously damaged, and many firms may go under. We all have a long way to go.
Good luck to everyone and stay healthy.

Same to you, Mossie. I think you will have a lot of fun learning how to make your new electronics do its tricks for you. What will our 'brave new world' be like. In Oz we are surprised and pleased that the politicians are pulling together and not sniping at petty differences. The leaders have taken on advisers who really know their stuff. The people are generally doing what they have been asked to do with only a few dickheads causing trouble. Retired medico-nursing staff are coming back to work to ease the burden. The Army blokes converted old machinery to mask making equipment and ventilators.
The reality of hundreds of thousand of people losing their jobs is terrifying, but a new system has started where a worker is "hibernated". Here the worker is getting the usual assistance but his boss gets a part payment to keep the job open for him. After this is all over boss doesn't have to train another worker.
As for the virus...last I saw Oz was flattening the curve well. Most of our sick people came off several cruise ships and a bus tour that no-one thought to stop.
The Future? What will we remember? I get spooked out just knowing my friends in Bali, US, UK etc are 'in lockdown' or standing at 'social distance'or 'self isolated'.In the space of 3-4 days the world was sharing the same language. We will remember the jokes about the TP panic. Our minds will never grasp the huge number of deaths and the Health staff, Transport staff and others who got on with their jobs knowing the dangers.
What do you see happening?

Perhaps here is the right place to say "thank you" to this site and its contributors, for stopping me from going totally stir crazy in these peculiar times.

I think a lot of us are using this place as part of our therapy.

I think a lot of us are using this place as part of our therapy. Well, yes, although I prefer to think of it as getting back to the original idea of the forum, which was essentially a platform for sharing our experiences and for conversation. As time went on and many people were pulled away by daily life or fell into the terse snippets or Like buttons of other social media, Anyport conversations didn't die off, but certainly decreased. Maybe we're all just yakking out of desperation, but I don't think so. There's a high degree of intelligence in this group and now, with the time to be more contemplative and to sit down to read & write, conversation is flowering. And absolutely ~ our furry family members are essential, with their unselfconscious antics and unconditional love.

OK , gentle readers, a riddle for the guessing. What do we have in common with "the Decameron", "Canterbury Tales" and "1001 nights"...?

They all got an 'n' in them same as with 'name' for all of us.

Might be because they are all tales/stories, just like we have on here.

Give that man a cigar! Canterbury is a collection of stories from a mob of pilgrims who got bored in the evenings, 1001 is the number of stories that Scheherazade had to tell the king, one each night, or he would kill her. Decameron is the 100 stories told by a lusty group of 10 young people as the Black Death Plague swirled around them. Anyport is a mob of individuals who have holed up in this port until such time as the weather is fair again.
