We all miss physical proximity with our loved ones right now, but in your case it must be particularly keen, Mich, with the very sad loss you all endured. To add to our families deep sadness, my Aunt (my mom's only sibling) passed away this week and last week, my Uncle (my Aunt's husband) passed away. My Aunt had COPD and was in the hospital with pneumonia when her husband passed away from pancreatic cancer, once she knew her husband passed she lost her will and fight. We are grateful that my cousin was able to be with her mother until she passed. I desperately wish I could be there to comfort my mom to hold her and wipe away her tears.

I’m so sorry, Mich. it’s hard enough to experience these deaths of loved ones during normal times. Covid just makes the grieving even harder.

Oh, Mich! That is so terribly sad. Your poor family -- all your losses are too much to bear. I can't tell you how sorry I am to hear this.

Awful news, Mich. I know that people who are already near death often hang on because of somebody else and then they let go if that person goes. When my stepfather was dying, he held on until I arrived from Paris and then when he saw that I had arrived to look after my mother, he died the next day.

Thank you Kerouac, htmb, Bixa and Mick.
I just do not even know what to say anymore.
But thank you for the supportive words, they mean a lot.

I miss a lot of the same day to day things that others do, but the thing I miss most is the delusion that people will actually pull together during a time of crisis and do the right thing.
That has not happened here, especially among young people who will not stop congregating and those who refuse to wear masks. The amount of people that think the elderly are expendable has been shocking. I'd like to think that if the tables were turned and young people were hit hardest by this disease, that the older generations would do everything possible to protect them from infection.
But these kids were raised by someone, so the older generations probably have only themselves to blame.
