This report could have been placed in a couple of other sections but I thought I would post here as the focus is on the art/ modern sculptures rather than the gardens.
There is very little information on the web about the place and even the web site itself is fairly scanty. I can see why it is described as a hidden Dorset treasure.

Originally designed by the sculptor, Simon Gudgeon and his wife, Monique to show case his work I am unsure if they still own it, certainly it was up for sale a few years ago.
"I believe art should be experienced, not merely viewed, and it is necessary to create a multi-faceted and visual environment in order to accomplish this. In a gallery there is only the art and the rest is bereft of anything else, often even furniture, it is rather a clinical environment. A sculpture park on the other hand, is a unique opportunity to create an experience that can work on so many levels to create mood and ambience; where people can leave their busy world behind them and step, for a moment, into ours; to give them time to think, relax and respond to the art." Simon Gudgeon.
On the day we visited last week, there was heavy rain on our arrival but we were lucky as by the time we had explored a little the weather cleared. It is a very peaceful place and especially as numbers are currently limited due to Covid and visits have to be booked in advance.
There are no maps showing the locations of the sculptures but the park is designed to lead you naturally to them, although I suspect there were some we missed.
The swan greeted us on arrival, it was one of very few that identified its name and maker , Crescendo, one of 6. Despite its colour it is made from bronze.

You can see the rain in these photos and how it distorted any reflections at this time.

But as we walked down to the River Frome – a little blue was appearing in the sky and it stopped raining. The river that feeds the lakes is very lovely and crystal clear. Do you see the electricity lines ?– that was the only thing that mars this place its surrounded by huge pylons, often we could hear them crackling.

This one is “Enlightenment” and was one of my favourite pieces – so lucky to be able to get the reflection once the rain stopped,

I was looking up at the trees and the next sculpture took me by surprise as it blended so well into its setting- another favourite together with its female counterpart I will show you later.

And another fave of mine,
live.staticflickr.com/65535/50268456601_6de0575366_c.jpg
Of course the lakes themselves also had much to offer,

Moving away from the lakes , there are more delights in the gardens leading up to and around the house, I was delighted to explore the kitchen garden but am not going to post images of it here.

…and others are just enhanced by them,

slightly ironic as dogs are not allowed,

To end this report I am going to finish with this , which is best shown via video – ( best viewed enlarged and with sound up)
I will go back and see it again at a different time , Autumn would be my choice.
