Did my horrible subject line get you to click on this thread? Good! As I browse through the forum, I come across all kinds of worthy picture threads that get shoved out of sight after relatively few viewings. Perhaps you all might be -- as I was -- appalled that you either never commented or completely failed to see some of these treasures. Threads posted in high summer seem to be the ones most likely to suffer the fate of falling semi out of sight. Accordingly, I've gathered a few and hope everyone will add to this thread over time. There is so much good stuff on Anyport, it's a shame for threads not to be seen simply because they're not brand new. New comments of course make a thread pop to the top again. Do also think about sharing great Anyport threads with friends and on social media. Our work deserves to be seen. Let's start out with two contrasting threads -- contrasting because one exists to show crowds and the other to show deserted spaces ~ Check out PatrickLondon's colorful and cheerful report on Pride in London 2014 from back in the days when we could show our smiles in public. You can follow that with an Escape From the Tourist Trap that is Florence, exquisitely presented in Fumobici's contemplative photographs. Now let's go back, waaay back to Biblical times with Mossie's visit to Noah's ArkWhen Noah and his family disembarked, they were surely grateful for the botanical beauty of the earth, although they probably did not imagine the glory of Les jardins suspendu in Le Havre. All gardens are places of wonder, but a garden with Sculpture On The Lake is wondrous indeed.

When I made one of my very rare trips last summer, which you may recall was to Le Havre, I wanted to return to that museum because it had an exhibition in which I was very interested: Nuits éléctriques (Electric Nights). It was about the metamorphosis of art with the appearence of artificial light in the mid 19th century to the eve of the Great War -- streetlights, building lights, advertising signs etc. I would have added my report to the same thread in the Museum. Alas, it was not to be because the world had already morphed into obligatory reservations to enter a museum, and I didn't have one. And of course it was all sold out for at least a week.
It's the sort of exhibition that couldn't be extended, because the 150 paintings were on loan for a limited time only. As to why it was in Le Havre, it's because Le Havre had one of the first electric lighthouses in the world (1863) and in 1889 it was also one of the first cities to switch to electric street lighting from gas.
Eternal regrets.

Thanks, Tod! I'm staying on the lookout for more buried treasure. Here are two more wonderful threads which never got their due. This report by the much-missed Amboseli practically sank without a trace. My lame excuse for missing her thread on picturesque Cuenca was that it was posted during Muertos. Whatever the reason, here is another chance to enjoy it ~ anyportinastorm.proboards.com/thread/8203/cuencaAnd proving my theory that museum threads & threads posted in high summer tend to get shunted aside, here is a real beauty that is both those things ~ anyportinastorm.proboards.com/thread/7813/florida-museum-natural-history

Yes it's a huge shame that Amboseli doesn't post here any more thanks to thoughtless actions of another.

Mick, yes it is, but when someone has the hump, they punish all of us don't they? Remember, Sticks and Stones can break my bones, but words can never hurt me . Being at cross purposes in words gives old folk like us a chance to have our say - agreeable or not. We have a platform to relate our feelings as long as there is no swearing! Kerouac and Bixa would be all over us like an itchy rash!

Amboseli lurks from time to time so there's nothing stopping her from posting again except herself.

It's not true that "words can never hurt me", Tod. People can be deeply hurt &/or offended by the words of others.
It is also true that on anyport, which is, after all, an international forum, sometimes remarks are made about one nationality or another which can be offensive. It is true that some of the remarks are made in jest, but obviously we each need to be aware that haha funny stuff might not be taken that way. Better to avoid such comments, since the intent is not always easy to understand online.

Well Bixa that may be the case, so lets hope the offence and hurt Amboseli felt at the time has waned and time has healed the words spoken. I think we all miss her excellent participation here.

While whatagain has made comments that can be considered inappropriate on numerous occasions -- and he is not at all the only one -- at least he has the courage to indicate that he knows what you are talking about rather than all of this childish beating around the bush that many members tend to do here when they don't dare say what they are really thinking.
Whatagain says that he despises the Dutch. I don't even think it is really true, but I don't know. Amboseli appreciates the Dutch. That's all that happened as far as I know, but Amboseli decided to storm off because her feelings were hurt. Big deal. Many people have left this site in the last decade when they got angry with someone. Some of them came back, others did not.
Frankly, I have little sympathy for people who run away from every annoyance, but that's just me. I prefer to stay and defend my ideas.

Why should she stay and be insulted? That’s not the purpose of this forum.
You’re a helper. Do some helping.

It was always obvious what side you were on. I hope desperately there are not "sides"- how futile. I would rather think people are calling it as they see it. Lets agree to disagree!

Why should she stay and be insulted? There was only one person on the forum who ever expressed an opinion to which she was opposed and I don't think that he ever insulted her personally, not even her nationality since they are both from the same country. This forum currently has 256 members (after Bixa, bless her, did some necessary weeding over the past year and eliminated at least half of the members, particularly those who had registered and never posted after more than six months -- most forums like to maintain a fictitiously high number of members to caress their egos). Frankly, I don't think we have more than 30 regular posters (which still isn't bad compared to many other ProBoards forums which I observe from time to time). I will always support people who are present and continue to post over people who have chosen to abstain. Mick, do you not think that that is the role of a "helper"? I regret the absence of Amboseli just like most of you, but I believe in things like gender equality, so if she felt too weak to post even though only one person bothered her, there is nothing that I can do for her. If she stood up to support her views, I would admire her, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. As an aside, I bet that a lot of you have noticed that I am regularly accused of being "anti-American" by at least 3 people here for some reason, but it has never bothered me one bit, especially since whenever this accusation comes out after a statement that I have made concerning the United States, there is the accusation but absolutely no element of disproof of what I wrote. This implies that what I said was true but that I should not have said it because telling the truth about certain things is anti-American. And yet none of these people is in the Trump camp. Go figure.

It is apparently "understood" by all that I was targeting Whatagain & specific comments. Not at all. This is exactly what I wrote and exactly what I meant. I meant everyone, including myself. Again, this is an international forum. The hope is always to draw in new members from all over, which won't happen if a casual dip into the forum appears to show that prejudices are not only rife, but acceptable. As far as Amboseli, who always seemed to me to be a fairly easy-going person, characterizing her as "weak" without knowing much more about her and her decision to leave the forum is arrogant and unfair. Re: neglected reports ~ That Prague report is visually beautiful and interesting besides. It has close to 1500 views. For now, in this thread I have been concentrating on reports that have fewer than 400 views -- so not only under-commented upon, but also seen by far fewer people than most anyport reports draw in.

Oh, maybe you were talking about how you caused Louix XIV to flee the site forever because he was a Trump supporter? Or is it when you pissed off bazfaz and made him leave because you implied that he was senile for going off topic? I think they were weak also for not calling you out. But I totally appreciate you and think you are the most important member of the forum, so I would not want you to change. But you probably should not preach.

Oooooo ~ Kerouac is all nervous & threatened that members might think that Bixa actually has a voice in this forum. Obviously the way to react to that is to start flinging bitchy, unsubstantiated accusations.
Re: those accusations ~ you might want to consider that you are standing on very thin ground.

Oh jeez, you can be so naive sometimes. Even though everything I wrote is true, you should at least understand that I am just providing entertainment for the others who love this sort of spat.
I have even corresponded with Louis XIV and Bazfaz to try to bring them back. No success of course.
Can't wait to hear about my thin ground.

You mean you want me to stoop to your level? Not happening. And your saying something is true does not make it so.
And that "providing entertainment" shit is not only speciously typical of you, but rather insulting to the membership.

Now now children, for one of you it's time for bed. The other one can stay up until it gets dark where they are, but then, straight to bed as well. No arguments about this or I'll take the forum off the both of you for a week. And no TV, cinema or internet.
You'll come back and I'll have redecorated.
