Does the Mrs. also have a vaccine jab, or have I missed that report? Not yet, no. We're working on it.

I have never had any desire to visit (the big) Oktoberfest in Munich; a smaller one in a smaller town or city might be pleasant. No desire to visit Iceland either despite its success story; I've been pretty far north already (the northern parts of Québec, for work).
Israel is a small country in terms of land area and population, but also a generally prosperous one. Haiti has a relatively small population (thinking of coutries relatively nearby) but is also very poor and has many other ills so I doubt there has been much vaccination.

It's not about whether or not we would like to visit a particular country. It's about the fact that Germany, for instance, finds it imprudent to hold a giant festival while the pandemic still rages. I take that as an indication that we should continue to observe many of the cautious protocols still in place.

Most of the summer festivals in France have been cancelled for the second time. Some of the others will take place but on a very limited basis.

Meanwhile, I have (re)booked my first tiny domestic trip for the new season. I had booked it in March already but had to cancel. I know that some of you like to guess where I am going, but I will only tell you for the moment that it is one of the least popular cities in France, which eliminates quite a few possibilities. Direct TGV from Paris, though, which also eliminates a lot of places. Calais?

I've already done Calais at least 5 times and considered it, but no, not this time.

At this time I can only dream of a future vacation in Paris. To help my aching heart I spend time on YouTube either walking around by myself or following a live walk with a Vlogger.

I dip in and out of travel videos, if I can find the kind that are true travelogues, not some guy blabbing directly into the camera. There is one dedicated to food that I like with a Canadian couple as the hosts. They are down to earth and I just love their enthusiasm: www.youtube.com/user/ToastWithJimMy favorite youtube traveling are the airline reviews. Yesterday I flew first class on Emirates, London to Dubai.

Thanks for the travel tip. If you want to see Paris in DETAIL, you cannot go better than the Paris resident, Cory Frye...A French Frye in Paris. He is sublime in every inch of the word. He has taught me so much. I cant wait to book a tour with him oneday.

And now it appears that the required Covid test on arrival in Iceland - and hotel quarantine til negative results are received - is being lifted. Hope my sister and I can slip in and out before there’s another spike in cases, particularly those troublesome variants.

Cases are rising quickly in the United Kingdom and Portugal but seem to be stable or in decline in the rest of western Europe. Until when?

Until the Delta variant - or what comes after it - gets a toehold in more countries.

Popped up on mine, too. I’ll go if you’ll go. Would you like to share a luxury suite, or do you want your own space? All we’d need is someone to pay our fare.

It should tell you all you need to know about my lack of attraction to cruises when I say you'd have to pay me at least that much to hop aboard.

I was thinking of the boredom/trapped-at-sea aspect, but yeah -- the SS Leviathan aspect is also something to consider.

Croatia seems to be a travel (not COVID) hotspot. My sister LOVED her small boat cruise in August. And her boyfriend proposed to her during the trip (but shhh, it’s a secret till he “puts a ring on it”!)

August was the low point for Croatia. Cases have risen about 700% since then.

Croatia is luckily just down the road from me and is currently visited regularly. Just this morning for instance. Though that was a quick transit through it.

Next month , after 2 years I am finally going to Skye to meet up with 3 of my oldest friends - the exact week/and the same place we had planned to visit 2 years ago and cancelled due to Covid 19. We had meant to celebrate our big 60 birthdays... now it will be 62 birthday celebrations. Very excited and I am even looking forward to a plane flight , even though its a very short hop ( BHX to Inverness)

I have a new reason to delay travel since my airline (retired) employee card expired and I have submitted it for renewal, but it takes longer than ever (covid). I checked with the office, and they are trying to push for faster service from the head office. When I finally get it, I hope to make a major trip quickly, especially if travel restrictions have withered away (wishful thinking). If not, I'll just go somewhere in Europe but probably not Ukraine just yet.

I've been to Croatia and Slovenia (no Melania) but just for daytrips with friends from northeastern Italy. Lovely places; still Yugoslavia back then.
I hope to be able to travel again someday. I'm still doing physio. Not going anywhere unless I'm fully ambulant. Doubtless to see old friends in France and Italy more than anything else.

I was scheduled to go on a very small boat, sailing out of Oban two years ago. Now I’m not sure when I will ever make it to Scotland. I will be traveling, though. Just farther to the south.

There is still no "the world is my oyster" feeling but looking back, I've managed to fit in quite a few travels, though apart from Colombia, all in Europe or the Balkans. There was never any hope of going to some places when they cut the country off anyway and in places like Spain, stopped travel from one region to another, but the timings have always been such I've slipped in the gaps where it opened up or had enough jabs and/or tests/the right paperwork or were just in transit and so on. I seem to have spent less time 'at home' last year and so far, this year though not much of it has gone. But arrangements are afoot for it to be the same. This is all since leaving Zambia though, before that it was hopeless.
However, I do have a feeing of guilt in a way that even though I've never tested positive nor had symptoms, I can't be totally sure I didn't carry it to some place and passed it on. Unlikely but there is still the thought.

So finally I have a trip planned outside of the UK to Greece in September . Now Covid is not the main concern - will my flight actually leave the UK? Will my baggage get to where it is supposed to ? Probably a whole new thread but the pitfalls of travel are still being impacted by Covid. Strikes, lack of trained staff, etc etc thepointsguy.co.uk/news/uk-government-22-point-plan-aviation-travel-chaos/
