I solved the phone problem, but accidentially touched a prompt that was some kind of energy saver; the background of my screen is pinkish and the text is harder to read. My little laptop doesn't use much energy in any case.
My brain is still a bit addled despite convalescence. I made the mistake of clicking on "high contrast", but that is utterly unreadable and gives me a splitting headache. I managed to get rid of that but still have the pinkish background and not enough (normal) contrast.
I'm going to bed now. It is almost 22:00 Eastern Summer Time. Hope someone will have some succinct advice by the morning our time.
The thing I accidentally clicked on was in a right-hand column to the main screen. It disappeared immediately and I can't find any reference to it.
thanks.

It sounds as though you have the Night Light on.
Go to Settings, then System, and turn it off.
It should be in Display, right underneath the Brightness setting slider.

Thanks! I wonder what it is called in French? Does anyone here know?
What is it called in Spanish?
Does is turn the screen pinkish or some other pastel tone?

I have never heard of the Night Light and can't even imagine what it is good for.

I wish I could help Lagatta. Perhaps someone like Mark could be of assistance. Good luck with this. I know how frustrating it can be. I just got a new PC and there are features on here that I have no idea what they are for.

I would try fiddling around with "paramètres" (settings) while being careful not to try anything that can't be reversed in one click.
(This is probably foolish advice because it has sometimes taken me two hours or two days to get things right again.)

I found it and (so far) have repaired it! No more nauseating pinkish tone and fuzzy letters. Did set out from Paramètres. Guess my brain isn't entirely shot.

"perhaps someone like Mark could be of assistance"
Even though Bixa already gave the correct answer.

I didn't mean to exclude you, "The Wizard" but had assumed that Lagatta had already tried out your sage advice. My apologies dear Wizard.
