I was unimpressed by the performance of France as well in the first half and not just because they didn't score. The French team is once again getting too old except for Mbappé and a couple of others. Time for more new blood, even though the experienced players have some good moves left. The Swiss defence was excellent.

I can only hope England play as well as France on bad day.

Certainly crikey. It was said the first time we've beaten Germany in a major tournament since 1966..... is that right? We've only beaten them in minor competitions?

The first half was a proper snore but England did very well in the second—looked the better side by the end.

Spain out. Italy in the final.

I wasn't that impressed with either of them. They are always dangerous on the break out and Spain has a good passing game, but overall.....

You can’t tie a football match. You can tie a cricket march. You can draw a football match. You can draw a cricket match.

I have yet to find one continental european supporting England.
The most common answer i get is 'they should not even be there, with Brexit and all'.
I must say that i would find it ungentlemanly from them if they dared win.

That is harsh, but it's true that in France everybody seems to support Italy. But all of this was before Brexit, so I wouldn't say that it is the reason.
Frankly, since England has never won and is in dire straits at the moment, I don't mind if they win.

The most common answer i get is 'they should not even be there, with Brexit and all'. Rubbish reason, there are many countries participating that aren't in the EU.

Correct, like the Swiss, but these didn't reject Europe after getting half in it.
These were not in the print for the last 3 years.
Anyway we all know it is stupid but imo people are just all for Italy, and not only because they are for Italy but also because they against England.
So that makes it harder for England to find supporters.

Not that I care about football, but I too would prefer Italy to win. On the other hand, England hasn't won a big competition since 1966, so once in 55 years wouldn't be so awful. Only problem is that Bojo, Farage et al would say that it's because they left the EU and milk it for political brownie points.

Mick, you don't think Johnson implying there might be a bank holiday if England wins is trying to make political hay out of it?

AFAIK the dead hand of the EU had nothing to do with organising these harmless GAMES of football.

AFAIK the dead hand of the EU had nothing to do with organising these harmless GAMES of football. Can't have it both ways Mossie. People are angry at UK for Brexit so will be happy if England (not even UK) loses. As i said, stupid but human. Even me, I'd like Italy to win but also England to lose. Something i would never have thought before. Sorry for that.

I am not a big fan of Italy since the World Cup final in 2006. Zidane-Materazzi. What Zidane did was inadmissable but (perhaps) understandable. I thought it wss perfect during the World Cup in 2010 that both Italy and France were eliminated in the first round -- perfect punishment for the previous World Cup.
But as I wrote before, I would prefer the victory of Italy over England in this match, just a vague gut feeling not based on anything specific. I still wonder why the UK has 4 different teams in international competitions instead of just one. Real countries only get one team.
If England wins tomorrow, I will still be happy to congratulate them.

When the rules were first codified and competitions devised, no other country played. So the highest level of competition could only be between the four nations in the UK. And good luck persuading the Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish FAs to merge with England now. My blog | My photos | My video clips | My Librivox recordings"too literate to be spam"

Oh woe is me, the whole of Europe is against us. How will we ever survive?
It's football, and not even the World Cup. I do though like the comment from Bill Shankly, a famous manager who said, "Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I assure you, it's much more serious than that."
