Fir this first trip after being vaccinated i found myself in a superb region called Vulkaneiffel, a part of the Eiffel region, in the Rhine palatinate.
The region is mostly a nature reservation, full of footpaths and a dream for hikers.
I drove about 2.5 hours under torrential rain at home then relatively dry but gray and sometimes figgy weather, with the rain evaporating.

This view when i arrived. I first thought it was a castle in ruins. But no, it is natural. This view is taken from my room. The hotel is ugly but the ciew is superb.

I chose the hotel because of the presence of a swimming pool. The breakfast is always nice in Germany, but i took the pic to show the glove, that you out on to manipulate the fork at the buffet, Covid requesting.

Tripadvisor told me i had to see the Drei Muehlen... The road to it went past some castles. German houses, always neat, no rubbish outside, and flowers. The footpath to the 3 springs. Actually there were 2 paths. One of 1.2 kms, where i saw several elderlies. The other was 500 m long, so i chose it, as i wanted to arri e home at a reasonable hour. That path was quite steep, slippery, treacherous, humid etc. Once arrived, a sign explains that the path you just took is treacherous, slippery esp when it snows Fortunately i visited end of june, so we had summer temps of ... 14c. And water everywhere.

Do here is the waterfall, made of the water coming from 3 spei gs around. Not really the Victoria falls, but would make a perfect spit for a picnic.

It looks nice, but I am not a fan of the breakfast. I you had said it was lunch, I might be more enthusiastic.
I have been planning a trip to the Saar for more than a year, but there is a disease that has been preventing me from going.

The last pic shows how densely populated the region is. It is a paradise for hikers, as i stated at the start. I hope you liked it... clearly somewhere i would never have made a target for a trip but a beautiful addition to save a businesstrip to be just... business.

I have been planning a trip to the Saar for more than a year, but there is a disease that has been preventing me from going. You don't need lunch after such breakfasts. My second plate was a refill with eggs and smoked salmon and some vegetables... The third was some lsst sausages, wurst etc.

Thank you Whatagain for taking me on a journey to somewhere I have never seen.
I have wondered if buffets would survive, so good to know they have at least in Germany ! And that the glove is not plastic - presumably washed and re-used ??
I love the photo of the woodland path No 3 of ~ 3.

Beautiful landscape views, Whatagain. It must have been real joy to be out in that terrain.
The "castle in ruins" turning out to be a natural formation seems part of the magic of that area. In the photo just after the first waterfall picture in #4, there is another natural formation that sure looks like the house for the trolls who guard the waterway.
For the hotel to provide such a lavish breakfast for the guests, many of whom must be there for the hiking, is both generous and good business.
Thanks for this unexpected look at a beautiful place.

Not really the Victoria falls, but would make a perfect spit for a picnic. Oh, Whatagain, you have done it again! Given me a laugh as I imagined that waterfall being used as a "Perfect spit" for a picnic!

I see you eat the correct thing when in Germany....sausage. I don't think there is another nation on earth that makes finer sausages than the Germans.

I see you eat the correct thing when in Germany....sausage. I don't think there is another nation on earth that makes finer sausages than the Germans. It even infiltrated their language : es ist mihr ganz Wurst means I don't care - it is sausage to me.

Used in Oz as well in the saying "not a sausage". Sausage and mash = Cockney slang for 'cash' so originally it meant 'haven't any money'. Now it just is used lightly to say a person can't find or hasn't got something.
"Did you find those tools in the shed?" "Nup, Looked all afternoon...not a sausage"
