Yes. Didn't know NL had floods too, as Flanders is mostly if not totally unaffected, whilst Wallonia suffered a lot. Trains don't circulate in Wallonia, RTBF talks about weeks before back to normal. Several cities around Liege suffered heavily. In Pepinster several houses collapsed and block the roads, which are flooded anyway. Verviers, Eupen are totally submerged. Cellars, first floors (rez de chaussée) and second floors (premier étage). We saw pics and videos of inhabitants on their roof. But the worst is the death toll : 14 people + a few unaccounted for. Well 13 + one natural selection. One guy took an inflatable crocodile and went in the flow, for fun. Wavre, close to home is under water. Some friends are under water. One lost his pond, submerged with 2/3rd of his garden. Water stopped very close to his door. Liège has had some floods too, highways have been closed. Chaos. We are lucky to be away from water, so nothing home. The garden has turned into a swamp but that is it.
Rain has stopped... sun is forecasted.
Videos on the net are impressive.

Txs Mossie.
Just reading that NL Limburg has evacuated thousands on inhabitants, notably in Maastricht. As its name suggests, the splendid city is along the 'Maas'or 'Maes' (like the beer) or 'la Meuse' when it runs in France and Belgium. It gathered water from everywhere and overflows in NL...
Meanwhile, death toll in Belgium is above 24 and about 40 in Germany.

The death toll in Germany is already more than 100, especially after that incredible landslide (mudslide?) -- the sort of thing that normally only happens in mountain areas.

Devastating for all in the region and it must be scary still as the grounds are still saturated and being continually nervous of more landslides.

The devastation and news of lives lost is shocking.

Today Belgium had its commemoration and minute of silence for the 31 official victims -- and the 70 still missing.
And in Germany they are still scraping the mud. 165 officially dead and how many missing?

Although we have troubles at the moment, I was sad to see all that devastation in Germany and Belgium. So dreadful to see the images on TV. I immediately thought of you Whatagain and am glad you and your family are OK.

Our group had 3 meters of water/mud etc in the basement of one of our production plants in Germany. Production is stopped and at one time all personel was evacuated. Seems we avoided the worst but we need several months and some money before restarting. My former boss' office is ruined, all papers destroyed, electricity gone, plumbing etc. We are cleaning, evaluating and looking for electricians all around Germany.

That is very bad luck Whatagain. Especially when records are destroyed. Where do you start finding out what went where. Hopefully there is back-up on a computer (cloud). Just cleaning up is a major job and no doubt will never be the same again until a revamp. So sorry for your company.

since i wasn't home in the last two weeks, i mainly saw headlines, only occasionally read a bit more in a newspaper or watch the news ... so catching up now ... what always surprises me is reports of helpers being attacked. why?

what always surprises me is reports of helpers being attacked. why? That's strange. On the news here, they talked a lot about neighbours helping each other.

I watched a rescue operation in Germany - YouTube . It was so terrible seeing dozens of cars submerged in thick muddy water. They were doing their best to find people that must have drowned.

my area fortunately was not effected (and apparently, our sandy ground and flat landscape would give us a certain amount of protection if we had similarly strong rains), so i don't know anyone who was effected (though some friends that visited recently told about friends of theirs who lost a small house they had in their garden) ... as for the people attacking helpers - of course, there were also more reports about people helping each other, but there have been a few like this one: www.dw.com/en/germany-flood-helpers-pelted-with-garbage/a-58623123
