Those are not "piggies", Tod. Those are boars. Better not to make things easier for them by providing them with water. There are loads of boars all over the place -- hunting season around Toulouse was extended so that they would be killed because 1) they destroy crops and fields, 2) they can be dangerous.

There’s an Italian dish with boar that is delicious. Can’t remember what it’s called though.

That’s it! My local Italian has dropped it from the special menu which is a shame. I loved it.

I have eaten roast boar at a (hunter) cousin's place (now deceased), but the most common culinary appearance of boar in France is boar pâté which pretty much tastes like any other kind of pâté. Available in most supermarkets.

Don't you touch our boars.
Anyway they have left for the moment I think we are too noisy.

They are strong swimmers. The old fishermen often had a tattoo of a pig as good luck if you fell overboard. I never knew that Don't you touch our boars. I think you are all very fond of them.

Whatagain or bjd, Is there a big difference between Boars and Wild pig? On the farms around our area people hunt Wild Pigs in the forested plantations of wattle and blue gum trees. Then we also have the very skittish wild pigs called Warthogs that feed kneeling on their front legs and backsides in the air. In the Kruger camps they come and go freely and seemed to be tame but run away if you try to pet them.

Still no news from them, not even a postcard saying they are well 😢😭😭😭

I just looked that up, Tod: "What is the difference between Pig and Boar?
• Pig includes ten species but boar is only one with many subspecies.
• Pigs could be either wild or domesticated, whereas boar is mostly wild.
• Wild boar is dark in colourations, whereas the domesticated pig comes in many different colours according to the breed
• The domestic pig is larger compared to the wild boar. Additionally, wild boar has a large head and a small body, but the domestic pig has a big head as well as massive body.
• Domestic pigs are docked, and the canines are removed to prevent the aggressiveness, but no such thing could be done on wild boars.
• Wild boar has a thicker cover of fur compared to the domesticated pigs."
Perhaps wild pigs are those that have become feral?
I saw a tame warthog hanging around a tourist shop in Maasai Mara, Kenya. They don't look like boars.

They are the same tame warthogs bjd described hanging around the tourist shop. bjd - Thanks for that info. I actually wanted the differences between Wild Pigs we get in our forests and Wild Boar. Also, Warthogs. Hog meaning pigs in America, I guess Warthogs are just wild pigs but very ugly!

First picture is so timelessly beautiful.
I see you all are spending your time wisely ~ excellent.
I'm fascinated by that last picture -- that rather nice restaurant inches from the sandy beach has discreet but formidable ways to shut out the sand, wind, & waves.

I thought I would post some pic of Cavalaire. here a beautiful pine tree with the church behind. The old train station. When I the ?60’s the railroad was dismantled and buses used instead. the good news is that we therefore don’t get tourists who don’t drive a car. These flock to Nice. The main square in front of the city hall. these are pétanque terrains ! The bay. Absolutely superb. We n the distance the capes we often walk. The port Main Street. Nothing here. Lots of apartments. Was a hotel here 15 years ago. Some apartments building are nice. Lots of pine trees. Called parasols. Sun umbrellas. Boats moored. Not much movement these days. Scuba diving boat. Some famous wrecks abound inc a French submarine. The Filago- the sailboat of the nautical club. We took it several times. With the skipper.

Terrific photo Whatagain I just want to be there right now! Looking at my Michelin map of France I note there are ferries to nearby Ile de Port Cros. Is this something you have visited? The sleepy village of Cavalaire looks wonderful to me.

As beautiful as those photos are, they also bring home the fact that it is the only part of France still suffering from a drought, even though it is even worse in Perpignan.

Yes, and when it pours, the rain just causes floods because the land is so dry that it can't absorb the water. There doesn't seem to be any happy medium: drought in the southeast and floods in the north.

It has been raining on and off this week and raining consistently yesterday the whole day. The perfect rain. Not too heavy and persistent. Today the sun is shining. Next days will be cold.

I completely missed your October updates to this report, Whatagain, but am enjoying them now. Are the newest pictures because you are there now, which I'm assuming because of your weather remark?
The hiking pictures are gorgeous -- that clear, clear air and the beautiful long views are visual treats.
