That is their natural religion, leave them to get on with it.

No such thing as "natural religion", Mossie. It's just vying for power.

I take it Mossie means that they are born into a culture that wants to be 'top dog'by hook or by crook. It's their way or the highway.

Don't forget, the leaders and decision makers are 20 years younger these days.

It's kind of hard to decide whom to support with the Taliban and ISIS fighting each other. Does anybody know their positions on climate change?
And who pays more for those child brides?

The reports showing the starving babies in the hospitals of Kabul are really starting to affect me. Almost no aid is getting through (because "we" don't want to help), but it is intolerable. It looks like Germany is the only Western country still providing a certain amount of aid.

It’s an incredibly difficult decision. Who will blink first?

As always, it's the civilians who are suffering over political decisions. Can the international community help without condoning the Taliban? If money is unblocked in western accounts, will the Taliban spend it on weapons or on food and healthcare?

Meanwhile industrials are hoping to get raw materials from Afghanistan.
As an anecdote I just heard the best quality of magnets are found there abundantly. Which are otherwise to be sourced in China and cost an arm.

A sad country that we all abandoned.

They want to be abandoned, they do not want our evil Western ways forced on them. How would it be if the boot was on the other foot and they invaded us and made us take up their mode of life?

I doubt all the afghan girls want to be abandoned. But honestly i don't see a solution.

I doubt the ordinary Afghan wants to be ruled by the Taliban either.

And there is a whole generation of Afghans who were born and raised in better times (albeit under a perhaps benevolent occupying army). But they were never taught (or allowed) to defend themselves. That's one of the drawbacks of never being independent.

It wasn't so long ago that newsreaders on TV had to wear dinner suits to read the evening news. (Of course they could hide their jeans behind the desk.)
