How long do you think it takes you to drive 230 kilometres?
Between two capital cities of neighbouring countries?
In Germany I could do that distance in......... one and a half to two hours depending on the motorway.
In Spain/France less than two hours.
Google maps says four hours and twenty minutes to drive between Sarajevo and Podgorica.
In reality, it took us 6 hours but that including a ten minute border crossing and two short breaks for a pee and a slurp of coffee from our flask.
Plus, talking my way out of a speeding fine when I was supposed to have been clocked doing 57km/h in a 30km/h limit.
Yeah, right...
Maximum allowed speed was 80km/h but rarely could you achieve that. All single carriageway and the longest straight section must have been all of two hundred metres.
The first and last bits of the drive were ok. Normal bendy roads, up and down and up and down, no great drama.
But the middle section was a bit rough though did have dramatic scenery.
Imagine though, this is the main road, the main route, connecting two capital cities.
Starts deteriorating -
Somehow, the Americans are involved. Didn't bother to stop to look further -
Nice repair -
Difficult to tell, but that is a tree -
Still not much better -
The bridge. No doubt a temporary one that was just left as a proper one was never built, or re-built -
The photos before were all in Bosnia, now we are in Montenegro. The road is far better, more or less -
The we come to another bridge. A better one. We are not far past the border and heading through a gorge -
This one has tarmac on it. It goes to the left -
Down there -
And through all those interlinked tunnels. Then right around the corner, still going through tunnels -
Not immune though from bad bits where I'd be wondering about passing here in the dark -
Not much further on. I have no idea at all why the hunter would want to put to dead boars on his car bonnet. Made us stop and take a photo though -
About the last of the hills and from here wound downhill to Podgorica -
I'm not sure if we'll come back this way to return or, if it is a sunny day, divert to a different route to take in a town or to we want to walk around.
Anyway, that was my drive for today.
